Bruce Lowell (Bruceywan) has created a truly fun rendition of one of Nintendo’s iconic characters, Yoshi. From the bulbous nose, to the “Yoshi Egg”, from the shell on his back to the brick-built hills in the background, this creation is simply awesome.

LEGO Bookshelf Safe
Just when I think I’ve seen everything that could be done with LEGO, Blake Baer (Blake’s Baericks) goes and does something new. This Mindstorms-operated bookshelf safe is amazing. Actually it is more than amazing, it is incredible. Building the books and disguising a safe inside would have been enough, but Blake goes one step further and automates the whole thing. I love it.
You really have to check out the video to fully appreciate this build:
This was built as an entry for this year’s MOCathalon
LEGO Star Trek Into Darkness trailer has plenty of lens flare [Video]
Antonio Toscano has created a stop-motion animation LEGO version of the trailer for the upcoming J.J. Abrams sequel to his Star Trek reboot.

The Science of LEGO
I’ve seen a lot of unusual things built out of LEGO, but I do believe this is the first time I’ve seen a scientific diagram. TheBrickAvenger made this lovely illustration demonstrating the way the greenhouse effect works, and I must say, I’d probably have paid more attention in science classes if all the illustrations were done in this manner!
Running is not an option in this Walking Dead diorama
It’s actually quite hard getting LEGO ruins to look right — it’s not as simple as knocking a few bricks out of the building you’ve just made. Kyle (K.Kreations) blows a big hole in his building and shatters the windows to recreate the look of a ravaged city in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
I also like the realistic details on the buildings’ roofs, often overlooked by builders even though we usually view and photograph LEGO models from above.
See more photos on MOCPages, where pretty much everything lately is apparently an entry for the MOCathalon. (Can we just assume that now? Yes, I think so.)
Magnificent “Malleus Maleficarum”
Brick Vader shows off a LEGO textural study in his medieval witchhunting diorama. I’m particularly fond of the surprise studs in the studs forward segments of the wall. And the leaning chimney is very neat. I’m now almost convinced someone can make The Shambles out of LEGO.
Emilia Starboarder
I first saw Paul Meissner’s (legosamurai) creation in person at our most recent LUGOLA meeting. While I am flattered that he credits my Daedalus Drop Suit as an inspiration, his Emilia Starboarder is so much more elegant and downright sexy in comparison. He cleverly incorporates a Belville doll head and uses Prince of Persia claw weapons to great effect as hands. I’m thinking we need to start a group dedicated to using LEGO doll heads.
Blue Fury
Jubal Scharold (Sir Darc) has turned out a ship that really looks like a mover, The Blue Fury! Those beefy-looking thrusters give this a definite hot-rod feel. I’m also loving how the builder used the stacked, trans-blue radar dishes as an integral part in the engines themselves. Add to that some subtle angle changes and dropped nose, you end up with a rather menacing-looking craft.
A Bolt From the Blue
Anything but forlorn -the home of the German Parliament
After having been gutted by fire in 1933 and heavily damaged during World War II, the German Reichstag building sat forlornly in West-Berlin for decades, mere meters away from the Berlin Wall. After Germany was reunited, the building was extensively refurbished and fitted with a spectacular glass dome. Since 1999 it has housed the German parliament.
Check out the clever spacing of all the columns and the way in which Al Disley (aldisley) has built the windows on his microscale version of this grandiose building. Al built the model for an upcoming book called Brick city, by fellow Brit Warren Elsmoore, which will be out in early May. Expect a review of the book in a few weeks’ time.

How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door you’re on
.TheBricks invites you inside his bathroom for a look around, and there is a great deal to see. The builder asks the timeless question “What is it with girls and bathrooms?”. I will leave it to you, constant reader, to answer that one. This model is an entry for the 2013 MocAthalon, under the category “What a girl wants.”
