New LEGO Universe details on Wired Game | Life [News]

New information on the upcoming LEGO MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) game, LEGO Universe, has truly been scarce. Some of the only information has been in early concept art doled out to newsletter subscribers:

But Blog | Life from Wired.com has a handful of new details on the game.

Based on the way the game is being marketed, I’m personally not entirely convinced the game will have the broad, multigenerational appeal that one might hope for (read: they don’t seem to be marketing to adults).

Still, I’m intrigued by the organic feeling of the backgrounds in the concept art released so far.

Belated Jedi Steamfighter by Zach Clapsadle

You know how it goes. You build something for a contest, but you don’t get around to finishing it on time or taking pictures. Well, in the case of Zach Clapsadle‘s Jedi Steamfighter, the lateness doesn’t detract from the awesomeness.

Zach says he wanted to create a complete hyperdrive ring. Yowza! Let’s hope he comes back to this project and does that.

Death Star in a dome!

I never cease to be amused by Tim “RogueBantha” Goddard‘s creations confined to domes.

His latest is an iconic scene from A New Hope — the Millennium Falcon gets tractor-beamed into a Death Star hangar bay as our heroes try to rescue a certain princess. As always, more pics on Flickr

Geep geep

Matt Hamann has been steadily improving his rolling stock (trains and carriages) and this new Burlington Northern GP9 is a true masterpiece. The placement of details, subtle shape differences and clever tricks (check out the hands on the handrail) combine to make for a beautiful engine. Excellent work.

TGV-66 Wildsau by DasNewten

DasNewten tries his hand at a style reminiscent of nnenn‘s microscale ships. And I say he succeeded rather nicely. Just one picture doesn’t do this little beauty justice, so click the photo above to check out more on Flickr.

Something wicked this way rolls

Sweet unholy hell. When MisterZumbi does something for the first time, he does it with a bang — like a backfiring hotrod.

For someone who’s never built anything larger than minifig-scale, this is quite the first. The level of detail in MisterZumbi’s “Road Zombie” is unbelievable. Click the pic to check out the engine, the interior, and other tidbits of heavy metal goodness.

Mini starships from Xiphos Systems

Alex (aka Xiphos Systems) presents two gorgeous and slick microscale starships. While we’ve not seen much yet from this builder, he certainly leaves a promising impression. These fine models are reminiscent of the amazing starfighters from nnenn. Keep up the great work Alex!

My latest work is a rather grisly one, though it is not wholly intended to appeal in that manner. Take a look at the accompanying writing and you’ll see that there’s another layer of meaning, and a very personal one, to this creation. I present Lament for Innocence.

Spinning threads of death through lives of mortal men

Harrison (aka “Corran101”) submits four epic entries to the CC vig contest — vignettes inspired by Homer’s Odyssey.

Our hero Odysseus has many adventures. In no particular order (go read the book!), he battles the sea monsters Scylla and Charybdis, rides a sheep out of a cave, does a bit of feasting with Circe, and fires an arrow through some axe handles.
