LAB 002 FULCRUM

We don’t often see mecha like this one by Ryuhei Kawai (kwi-chang). It has a large chunky flavor, and barely a smooth surface in sight. The various bristles all seem to have a purpose (grenade launchers, radar, ammo, etc.) and it manages to work. The addition of pistons on the back of the legs, as well as vents on back, add to a purposeful, frontal assault only, look.

NBT Merc Squad

big or small

Creature creator Tim Goddard (roguebantha_1138) demonstrates that Blacktron are non-discriminatory employers. Which is nice to know.

FBTB announces the 2011 Podracer Challenge

Do you like podracers but are tired of seeing the same Star Wars variants? FBTB challenges you to build a podracer in any non-Star Wars theme. The deadline is March 31 and as usual, the prizes do not disappoint. Check out the details here.

A Giant Dwarf

Sven Junga just posted this amazing sculpture on flickr. Other photos reveal a fascinating scene of the statue being hauled across a bridge over a river of blood.

P3040053

One does seem to be missing.

Those three blind mice. See how they run? According to Barney Main (SlyOwl), one wasn’t quite quick enough. There is a ton of great stuff hidden in plain sight in this photo. The whole presentation of it is just fabulous.

Design a Direct-To-Consumer set contest

Eurobricks challenges you to design a Direct-To-Consumer (D2C) set for Atlantis, Pharaoh’s Quest, or Ninjago. Over $500 of prizes is at stake. Don’t know what a D2C set is? Check out the rules to learn this and more. The contest ends on April 30th.

Best use of stickers award

Old cattle truck....

… and it goes to Carl Greatrix (bricktrix). This would have been a lovely old fashioned cattle wagon (OFCW) without the stickers on the front. But they transform it into a near perfect OFCW. See also the brilliant use of texture.

The TBB hiatus

break

I’ve had the above by Nathan Proudlove stored in my bloglist for a good while hoping never to need it. But I’ve noticed people getting, understandably, worried about TBB’s inaction of late. With six people it was unlikely we’d all be so busy at once but we’ve managed to hit a temporary point where all of us are struggling to blog due to real life.

Don’t worry, once things settle down we’ll be back.

Fluorescent graffiti

Alex Schranz uses transparent colors to create a 3D graffiti display of his signature “PAX.” He uses a black light to give the pieces a fluorescent glow, resembling something from another dimension.
