The bloggers at Neatorama seem to love LEGO, and for that The Brothers Brick love Neatorama. As one of the top 50 blogs in the world, we also love the traffic they’ve sent us several times over the last few months. :-D
Sebastian Dick‘s LEGO chaingun is at the top of the page on Neatorama right now, so it seems as good a time as any to feature it here (I know it’s a bit old, but I hope it’s new to some of our readers):
There’s waaaaay too much good stuff today. I’ll never catch up unless I go with links instead of the usual full posts. I guess it’s a good situation to be in. On to the first batch…

Links to the brickfilms can be found in the link above. A small plug: my brickfilm Beast (watch it here on YouTube), second-place winner in the Brickfilms.com Fame, Infamy and Glory contest, has been nominated for Best Sound Design. I’m honored, but also amused. I hated doing the sound for Beast, especially since I was working with Windows Movie Maker 2 at the time, and had to struggle with only one audio track.
The BAMPAs have a seperate website, but it hasn’t been updated in a while.
Yay! Two days ago I came home from PoliSci and found a rather large package from Connecticut waiting for me on the doorstep! I’m still busy taking detailed pictures and writing up a review, but in the meantime enjoy this time laspe video of me building the greatest LEGO set ever. Over three hours compressed into five and a half minutes.
Whaddaya know, the world’s best Family Guy is a true LEGO fan!
EDIT: Dang it, for some reason the video is refusing to embed. Here’s a link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=KDdyF1ihThY
Back on the old blog, I posted a couple times about a series of TV episodes in Japan called “LEGO King Championship.” You can read more about the show here, and see a YouTube video here. Unfortunately, the images I linked to in my original post quickly expired, and the YouTube footage doesn’t do justice to the creations.
After a very long wait (well, I’ve been waiting), Sachiko Akinaga has uploaded a great set of pictures that show off the “Earth Park” that won her the title of LEGO Champion:
Click the image for the full gallery on Brickshelf.
Moko recently posted a cool little vehicle Lukas called “bike-ish”:
What’s not in Moko’s Brickshelf caption is that this is based on a hover-bike currently featured in a Nissin Cup Noodles ad (in Japan, of course) that uses footage from a new project called FREEDOM by Akira director Katsuhiro Otomo. Here’s a six-minute clip from YouTube:
You can also watch more footage on the official FREEDOM site.

First, the video:
Dave DeGobbi of Burnaby, B.C., Canada attended NWBrickCon 2006 over this past weekend, and stole the show (well, at least the steampunk section) with his Goliath airship:
Naturally, the Goliath won the Best Steampunk prize for the show! Inspired by my favorite movie of all time, Hayao Miyazaki’s Laputa: Castle in the Sky, the airship includes many cool features:
Dave says it took him about eighty hours to build, based on three years of parts collecting. The movement is powered by seven regular LEGO motors and one micro-motor. He estimates that Goliath includes over 7000 LEGO elements, which he spent more than $1000 CDN to purchase. (Multiple Yoda sets on clearance helped with the tan.)
Those of you who transport large LEGO creations may also be interested to learn that Dave included a 3/4″ x 1 1/4″ x 4′ Brazilian cherry beam in the Goliath, which makes it strong enough to survive long trips. As an added bonus, it makes the airship strong enough to hang from the ceiling. Here’s a picture of the DUPLO cradle and straps he uses to secure the Goliath:
Be sure to check out the full photoset on Flickr for lots of detailed shots. Dave’s awesome airship has been showing up in lots of Flickr photostreams, so you might see some new details in other people’s photos as well. Thanks for sharing this info and sending me the video, Dave!

Some love him, others hate him. Either way, Gary Brolsma became an internet icon when he did his Numa Numa Dance in 2004. When browsing YouTube, I came across — of all things — a LEGO version of the dance. It’s not really brickfilming, but it’s still cool. Check it out!
Here’s the original film, for comparison:
