We just received the official press package from LEGO on the 10218 Pet Shop. There are some great high resolution photos of some new pieces (love the printing on that kitty!). There’s also a nice video with Designer Jamie Berard explaining the set!

Continuing the LEGO® Modular Buildings series, this highly detailed, 3-story Pet Shop building and townhouse with full internal and external detailing is the perfect addition to your LEGO town. Greet customers with a menagerie of pets and let them treat them with a selection of toys and supplies. The pet shop building features a hinged staircase for easy access, upper apartment with kitchenette and upper loft overlooking the open plan interior below. To the side, the tastefully appointed townhouse features a detailed ground floor with accessories and spiral staircase leading to the upper floor. Stop-motion build of upcoming 21008 Burj Khalifa

Philipp Herfeldt posted a stop-motion video showing the construction of the upcoming set in the LEGO Archtecture line: 21008 Burj Khalifa.

Motorized Siege Tank from Starcraft 2 goes into siege mode

Mark (petzoldhaus) from Youtube built a motorized Siege Tank from Starcraft 2. Not only does it run by remote control, it also converts into siege mode for punishing your opponent’s clumped up ground forces and buildings. You can see the internal workings in this video.

Massive 20-module Great Ball Contraption goes on forever

I generally don’t have the patience to watch Great Ball Contraption (GBC) videos, but I couldn’t tear myself away from this amazing 8-minute engineering marvel by Japanese builder akiyuki.

Nannan suggested I post this because I could read up on some of the design descriptions akiyuki writes about on his blog, but really, this thing speaks for itself and therefore I have nothing meaningful to add…

Portal 2 – ATLAS, P-Body, and the latest Aperture investment opportunity

My lovely wife pre-ordered Valve’s Portal 2 for me, and I’m looking forward to playing it tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m enjoying the Portal-themed LEGO models emerging from talented builders like Tyler Clites and Ryan (LDM).

Lego ATLAS and P-Body from Portal 2

Portal 2 is here! And along with that comes the first brick-built versions by Tyler (Legohaulic) of the adorable protagonists from this video game. Here’s ATLAS and P-Body:

Doors opening... please stand clear

Esben Kolind is one of the few LEGO builders who can combine excellent working features and nice looking designs. A browse through his Youtube account is sure to please those of a technical bent and those who like pretty train models. His latest intercity train expands on his old ideas to feature three simultaneous working doors through some superb compact technic design.

Another ship in a bottle (with video!)

Julia Morley‘s ship in a bottle is just as impressive as the first one I’ve blogged. What’s cool is her time-lapse video showing how it was built. I’m sure many of you have seen time-lapse videos of large models being built, but one like this must be a first.

Brick Expo 2011 announcement

[April Fools’!] Hitler discovers that collectible minifigs no longer have bar codes

If you’re still upset about LEGO’s removal of bar codes from the collectible minifigs, rest assured that you’re not the only one.

Chrome cyborg beast

Rarely do we see creations featuring abundant chrome or metallic colored pieces due to the rarity of those parts. This one by Brad Edmondson depicts a cyborg warrior and her beast causing mayhem at a hangar. You can see an dramatized slideshow of the photos on Youtube.
