LEGO Star Wars is one of the most popular LEGO themes of all time. Far beyond X-wings and TIE fighters, there’s a whole expanded universe of inspiration, and an army of LEGO fans ready to build whatever comes out of George Lucas’s head next.

High speed chase through the gritty streets of Corellia

Going in to see Solo: A Star Wars Story with managed expectations, I loved this movie! And the speeder sets for Han Solo and Moloch released in the first wave were some of the best speeders to come out of the franchise, in my opinion. Apparently, h2brick is also a big fan, having built this great street scene featuring Han and Qi’ra careening along pursued by a patrol speeder. There are a lot of nice details throughout this dark gray scene, including a few toppled containers spilling something unhealthy onto the street, and plenty of discarded debris.

New LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz revealed, including Boba Fett [News]

The large LEGO BrickHeadz family of movie characters is now joined by 4 more iconic figures. Announced on the LEGO’s Twitter feed today, three set, 41627 Luke and Yoda, 41628 Princess Leia and 41629 Boba Fett are to be released later this year. Although, the announcement doesn’t contain any information about the pricing, we presume both Princess Leia and Boba Fett will retail at $9.99, while Luke and Yoda will be priced at $14.99.

Cubist Red Three standing by

Unless your name is Luke Skywalker or Wedge Antilles, being given the orange flight suit of a Star Wars rebel pilot must be a little like getting a red shirt on Star Trek — chances are, you’re not going to survive to the end of the battle. Koen offers a great LEGO Brickheadz-styled take on one of these everyday heroes of the Rebellion. The model’s helmet is fantastic, managing to adopt the blocky-aesthetic whilst remaining remarkably accurate to its inspiration. Nice use of printed tiles for the chest plate too. Whilst Koen leaves his pilot anonymous, the figure does sport a quite magnificent 70s-style moustache. As a result, unless anyone tells me otherwise, I’m going to assume this is Luke’s childhood friend Biggs Darklighter — Red 3.

Crazy cool Corellian Star Shuttle

We feature a lot of X-Wings, TIE Fighters, Star Destroyers, and other well-known ships from the Star Wars universe, but rarely do we see the CSS-1 Corellian Star Shuttle, beautifully constructed here in LEGO form by Gamabomb. You may have blinked and missed it, but this ship got a bit of screen time in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace when it brought Chancellor Palpatine to Naboo following the defeat of the Trade Federation army. The builder has done an outstanding job capturing the shuttle’s smooth curves and rounded front end. The fact that it’s so rarely seen built from LEGO — unlike some other Star Wars ships — just makes it all the more awesome.

New LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz revealed, including Darth Vader [News]

LEGO continues to roll out new entries to the BrickHeadz theme with some regularity, and the latest pair to be revealed hail from Star Wars. Though we’ve had a number of Star Wars characters before, this duo is representing the Empire with Darth Vader and a Stormtrooper. Numbered as 55 and 56 in the series, we don’t have a specific release date for them yet, but we presume they’ll cost the same as previous BrickHeadz, at $10 per character. We’re also getting a look at the box art and series numbers, 62 and 63, for the Ghostbusters two-pack we revealed a few weeks ago.

Solo: A Star Wars Story – LEGO sets vs. the movie [Spoiler Review]

Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters today, but if you’re like many of us here at The Brothers Brick, you already saw it yesterday evening at an opening night event. With the movie now in theaters, we’re taking a look back at our reviews of the LEGO Star Wars sets that accompany the movie, comparing them with the real characters and vehicles.

Solo Movie LEGO Comparisons

Obviously, the nature of this follow-up analysis is that it will be full of spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the movie yet, by all means go out and do that — it’s not a perfect movie, but it’s certainly a fun adventure in the broader Star Wars universe — before coming back and reading this.

Sebulba’s Podracer Revenge

I’ve been a fan of Podracers ever since they made their debut in The Phantom Menace. These strange vehicles have two bulky engines towing a cart that has very little protection if things go wrong. Jon & Catherine Stead take a spin on the iconic scene where Sebulba is defeated. However, unlike the movie, this time the Dug pilot has a souped-up, mean machine ready to take out any other future Jedi wannabes.

"Eagle" Podracer MOC - 1

I guess one thing Sebulba didn’t quite learn is bigger may not necessarily mean better, as he opted for oversized engines yet again. Probably unseen and hidden are all those illegal mods to take out any other podracers that may be of threat. Continue reading for close-up shots of Subulba’s new podracer.

Star World Wars II : Return of the Dogfights

Hardcore Star Wars fans would know that many of the scenes from the original trilogy were heavily inspired by World War II dogfight scenes, and even some of the ship designs were lifted from aviation bombers of that period. Builder Steve Peterson has reversed this inspiration and transposed the space vehicles back into what they could have looked like if World War II fighters were instead inspired by the vehicles from Star Wars. He took the fan favourites of the X-Wing, the Y-Wing and the TIE fighter and made them look very retro cool. It seemed like they stepped through a time transformation machine. If you’re familiar with the era, tell us what WWII aircraft you think inspired these builds!

Have you seen the LEGO linebacker Beebee ate?

The new trilogy’s adorable astromech has appeared in a number of official versions from LEGO, including as a minifig, as a UCS Model, and even as a polybag! However, Brick Spirou has reimagined him again as a kind of Claptrap (from Borderlands). I love the LEGO Technic shoulder pads, the unique poseable fingers, all assembled with a simple yet perfect colour scheme. Could you imagine games of the future featuring huddles of muscled, mono-wheeled, mini-bots charging around a pitch wildly chasing a leather ball? Such a wonderful idea exceptionally executed.

Perhaps this BB-8’s full designation ought to be Borderlands Buddy – 8.
