Welcome to Day 3 of our LEGO Advent Calendar countdown. Each day, we’ll reveal the three mini-builds from the LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Friends, and LEGO City 2018 advent calendars along with commentary from The Brothers Brick team.
If you’re opening one (or more) of these advent calendars along with us, we’ve made sure the pictures and commentary on each day’s models will be behind a jump so we don’t accidentally ruin the surprise. What did we see on day three?
For Day 3, we have the Arrowhead from Star Wars, holiday bells from Friends, and a red go-kart from City.
Dave: Star Wars has a mini Arrowhead from the Freemaker Adventures! I personally really love that show, and seeing a mini version the bigger 75186 Arrowhead is awesome! I also believe this is the first time an advent calendar has featured anything at all from that show, another plus.
Friends has a pair of bells, the first overtly festive build from the calendar. Curiously they included six yellow 2×2 rounded plates instead of two 2×2 round bricks. This is either to increase the piece count or to ensure that the pieces can fit easily in each small openings. I suspect the latter. City has a small race car. I’ve seen better. At least it gives the minifig something to do.
Chris: Is it just me, or does the Arrowhead look more like a slightly squatty Serenity? Anyway, the bells are quite nice, but the City go-cart is a bit underwhelming.
Daniel: While it is nice to see a vehicle from what could be considered an expanded universe story, it looks more like something from Star Trek in my opinion. The wheels on the race car can also be used for small train builds, so that’s nice.
Andrew: Those bells are lovely and the cart is fun, but I have to admit that I’m not a fan of the Freemaker Adventures. I was hoping we’d be done seeing more from that series.
Edwinder: I’m not feeling much on the City and Star Wars builds, so my vote goes to Friends! A bunch of those ornaments hung on a Christmas tree would look nice indeed.
Dave: If you wanted to see the little race car in action, here you go. The boy’s alternate face is shown compared to yesterdays bit lip. He at least looks happy with his new wheels.
Rod: Love the little car, but I really don’t like that the driver has to stand. Feels a bit odd?
Edwinder: “Look at me ma! I’m standing while speeding on dangerous vehicle! Wheeeeee!!!”
Nick: Eh, blue-shell that weaksauce Mario Kart.
Andrew: How fantastic would it have been to see the new bendy mini-legs in blue for the first time as an Advent surprise? Drive safe, kiddo!
