Tomorrow is the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing on the moon. I hope we see many moon-themed LEGO models over the next couple of days, but we’ll start with this fantastic microscale version of the lander by Ted Andes.

Alexander (Malydilnar) brings us a cool space fighter. This ship caught my eye, as I recognized it as inspired by the work of one of my favorite concept artists, Karanak. Ironically, this is one of my least favorite illustrations, and I thought I didn’t like the style of the ship. Seeing it assembled in Lego, though, my opinion has changed. Great job Alexander!
Well, OK, just in theory. But this amazing NXT-controlled LEGO robot by Hknssn can build its own tower, and since the robot rides up the tower with each new piece it places, there’s theoretically no limit to how high it can build as long as it continues to be fed pieces.
Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another round of Friday Night Fights. Tonight we dive into the world of Concept Art turned into LEGO. A lot of builders will use reference photos of cars and buildings to build their models. There’s a small subset of sci-fi builders which will use Concept Art as a basis of their creations. Let’s go to the tale of the tape.

I’m apparently in quite a spacey mood today, since this is the second microscale space LEGO model that caught my eye. This one is by Shannon Sproule, a med-station orbiting Saturn named Nightingale. The gold is a beautiful touch.
Tim Clark just posted this fantastically complex microscale space scene, complete with a pair of ships flying overhead and two more smaller ones on a landing pad.
This build is a great example of how repetition can really increase the realism of a LEGO model — the pairs of ships, the beacons, and all the small technical details. Real life is full of repetition, and doing the same even in a sci-fi setting adds a level of realism that would be lacking if every detail was unique.

LEGO has just released an announcement video for the forthcoming LEGO Ideas (née Cuusoo) set, 21109 Exo Suit, based on Peter Reid’s terrific design submission. This is one of the more imaginative videos LEGO has done for an announcement, and it fits perfectly into Peter’s Space universe that he lays out in his book, LEGO Space: Building the Future. See our previous coverage of this set here and here. There appears to still be no word on the price or part count, though it is set to be released in August.
Even among some of the best Starfighter builders around, Chris Maddison manages to stand out as he puts in this phenomenal entry into the Starfighter Telephone Game:
Combining the styling of the previous Stafighters, Chris takes it to the next level with the amazing use of the light brick inside the Galaxy Squad pod, which gives this already very alien ship that extra exotic look.
Andris Barkevics (TGBDZ) has poured a great deal of lovely sand green brick into this interesting space ship. It’s more than just a color, though, it has a cool shape, I really like the arc curving in from the bottom, to overlap the cutout in the top section. The black greebles look good, as much as I can see them.
