Many of the LEGO spaceships inspired by Homeworld are huge carriers and cruisers, but this Vaygr minelayer corvette and escort ships are no less excellent in their striped glory. Damien Labrousse has captured the classic Homeworld aesthetic of bold colors, harsh angles, and exposed machinery in a wonderfully compact scale. The red brick-built V shape on the side of the corvette is a particularly nice touch.

Choppers of the future
Andrew JN shows us that just a few parts on a motorcycle chassis can make a lot of difference. He also adds a few stickers and the work is done! The futuristic cowboy gangster is just as attractive. Be like Andrew! He knows how to build.
Rovin’ other planets LEGO-style
Getting off earth and somewhere else is tricky enough, but how do you cruise around when you get there? A rover, that’s how! Luis Baixinho has given us this adorable little rover, and I love it. The tires are a great solution, and it’s very “real world” space to me.
This little rover seems to fit the bill: it’s small, compact, and is probably easy to disassemble for transport! Because, you know…LEGO. The build features the Series 15 Astronaut, which I absolutely love. It’s my favorite spaceman LEGO has done for quite some time.
Find your destiny with this LEGO Arcadia-class jumpship
Fans of the video game Destiny will immediately recognise this creation by Paul Jeong. For the uninitiated, Destiny is a first-person shooter that incorporates role-playing and multiplayer online styles. Jumpships, such as the Arcadia-class model, are a means of transportation in the game and help you in your quest to save the last safe city of Earth from naughty aliens.
The ship has some lovely shaping thanks to some clever Technic use and plenty of curved slopes. The design is very accurate to the game, as you can see from Paul’s comparison shot.
I love the colors; orange and blue are opposing colors and work so well in this model due to the varied LEGO palatte. There are more images of Paul’s ship in his Flickr album, and it’s worth taking the time to check out the close-up views.
Fear the space rebels
The human race has always been looking for new horizons to conquer. New continents, deep seas, high mountains and even space… but every occupation comes with a challenge. Humans must now face unwelcoming aliens. They will not let go, they will resist.
Sad Brick depicts this little space scenery in a retro manner and with an attractive color palette. The portable lab and the sampling drill offer many play functions, and tracked vehicles are always a favorite of mine! Smooth rock formations, distinguished vegetation and self-controlling drones should not be missed. Also notice the anxious alien observing the drilling activity. He is definitely not happy. Fear the space rebels!
TBB cover photo: March 2016
Our latest social media cover photo is this “Solar Rover” built for the recent FebRovery contest by Stuttgart-based builder Kevin Wollert. The dark tan background and use of transparent red elements gives this intricate little rover a Classic Space feel. Although the inclusion of tracks actually makes a lot more sense than all the wheeled vehicles that used to dominate LEGO’s own Space themes!

Cyberpunk Tripartite
I love the verticality to Sam Malmberg‘s slice of a cyberpunk cityscape. The builder mentions he was inspired by the architectural concept of a tripartite structure, which gives an appearance of vertically dividing lower, middle, and upper social and economic classes. A great concept for a cyberpunk scene, and rather well executed too!

There are several small details and scenes that bring this build to life, so be sure to check out the rest of the photos on Sam’s Flickr page.
Working LEGO orrery is accurate to 97% [Video]
The mastermind of LEGO models featuring motion, Jason Allemann has built a working orrery featuring the sun, earth and moon. Although other LEGO orreries exist, Jason’s model is the only one that is over 97% accurate compared to the actual rotation frequencies of these celestial bodies.
Check out the video to see the orrery in motion and learn about its intricate construction.
In space, no one can hear you smack your lips
Things are heating up in our Space Chefs Competition Kitchen with these two fun entries whetting our appetite for more culinary creations.
For a quick appetizer, Lego 7‘s Hot Dog Chef will relish the opportunity to make the largest, tastiest hot dog in the galaxy. With spare dogs in the back and condiments at the ready, his speedy skills will let you ketchup and get on with your day!
For a second course, Marco Marozzi serves up his slightly fishy looking Masterchef. I love his head and eyes, while his belly suggests that he likes to taste his culinary creations first. With four arms I’m sure he can fillet a fish faster than you can say it!

If you haven’t entered yet, don’t get yourself in a pickle…there’s still time as the competition is open until midnight 29 Feb 16. Head over to the Space Chefs group on Flickr and check out the categories, rules and prize details.
Cylon Raiders vs Colonial Vipers
Beauty is not necessarily complex. Simon Pickard proves simplicity goes a long way. He uses a single part to represent the Cylon Raider ships, and his Colonial Viper fighters don’t require more than 20 pieces. Minimalism may become a new trend in LEGO creations!
There were only a handful of Vipers remaining to defend humanity in the reimagined series. It was always painful to watch them go boom against the practically unlimited number of Raiders. Simon obviously isn’t as sentimental as I am – he prefers to blow one up for this creation. Shame on him!
One small step, one cute spacewalk
Continuing his quest to find the absolute limit of use for the Belville shoe, Grantmasters has stepped it up a notch by creating the most adorable spaceman imaginable–one that manages to use fewer bricks than a pair of hands has fingers. Speaking of which, the spaceman’s arms and legs are actually made from a pair of minifigure hands!
The Brothers Brick wishes you the best of luck on your space-adventure tiny one… You’re going to need it considering the size of your steps!
Cloud 9 has a silver metallic lining
Tim Schwalfenberg takes us to Cloud 9 and induces a state of euphoria with his amazing build. Within an ingenious silver gyroscope lies a beautiful, futuristic city that Tim describes as “one of the galaxy’s top tourist destinations“.
This really is a beautiful build. I love the gyroscope orbiting around the city of Cloud 9, while the city itself reminds me of Dorothy’s first view of the Emerald City. I want to pack my bags and go…
