Everybody loves LEGO minifigures — well, almost everybody. Minifigs are often the stars of the LEGO models we feature here on The Brothers Brick, but we also feature some amazing custom minifigs you’d never expect to see in an official LEGO set.

Brick Obama: LEGO Hope poster by Michael Fortress

As I type this, Barack Obama stands on the steps of the Unites States Capital with his right hand raised, taking the Oath of Office as the 44th President of the United States of America.

Brick Obama \"Hope\" poster by Michael Fortress

Like many LEGO fans, Michael Fortress wanted to mark the historic inauguration of president Obama. Inspired by the iconic Shepard Fairey “Hope” poster, Michael combined his graphic design skills with his passion for LEGO to create his own LEGO-themed Barack Obama “Hope” stencil poster.

At the White House, it’s out with the old, in with the new

Digger Digger Dogstar illustrates the peaceful transition of power between outgoing president George W. Bush and incoming president Barack Obama.

Remembering what happened on Election Day a few months ago, I’ll remind everyone to keep the comments civil, please.

All aboard the Happy Box!

Uspez Morbo‘s Happy Box doesn’t suffer from the Big Boring Box syndrome that typifies so many mid-sized space ships from less-skilled builders (like me).

With nary a straight edge in sight, the Happy Box has lovely orange highlights and wonderful greebles on the back.

The minifig crew of the Happy Box makes me just as happy:

Dan has you covered with this handy roadsign. Check out this picture and don’t loose track of Dan’s project to capture one unique LEGO minifig shot each day for a year. He’s already on day 209! Check out his blog featuring the pictures: a LEGO a day.

Upcoming sci-fi items from BrickArms

BrickArms will soon release some recognizable and highly-anticipated custom sci-fi weapons for your minifigs. These include the plasma sword, energy pistol, photon pistol, and the needle gun.

These items will be mass produced in a variety of colors, including transparent colors. The exact release date has not been determined, but according to BrickArms spokesperson Badger, “fans of BrickArms can expect these accessories to join the BrickArms family sooner than later!”

As usual, you can expect the highest quality custom accessories from BrickArms and 100% compatibility with LEGO products. The energy pistol and needle gun prototypes have different colored sections for added detail, while the full-production versions will be available in single colors.

Visit the BrickArms Forums to discuss these and other accessories and see what else is coming in 2009!

Orion Pax takes us to Eternia with his latest creation — Castle Grayskull from He Man and the Masters of the Universe:

Of course, what Castle Grayskull would be complete without its defenders? Here’s the whole Masters of the Universe lineup, from He-Man himself to Mekaneck:

And Skeletor’s evil crew:

Ancient Japan

Chrispockster‘s scene of ancient Japan has a ton of interesting building techniques and cool minifigures to look at. I like the vines on the trees and the broken stone steps leading up to the torii gate.

Where in the world is Andrew this time?

Yes readers, it’s time once again to guess where my minifig self and I have landed in our wide world.

So, where do you think I am? There’s a distinctive volcanic island in that photo, but it doesn’t give you much to go on, so here’s a skyline to give you some hints:

While you’re guessing, my sheepy traveling companion needs a name, so if you think you’ve got the location right, give him a name too.
