LEGO unveils massive new Minecraft set: 21128 The Village [News]

LEGO Minecraft has come a long way from its humble origin as a crowd-sourced idea back in 2012. The latest addition the ever-expanding LEGO Minecraft theme is a massive new exclusive set, 21128 The Village. The set features a minifig-scale Village, one of several naturally-generated structures in the Minecraft world. The Village will have 1600 pieces, and be available for $199 USD for VIP members on May 18, and for everyone else on June 1.

LEGO Minecraft sets now available on Amazon

The minifig scale Lego minecraft sets are now available on Amazon. The official release date is November 15th. Below are the sets and their retail prices.

LEGO 21116 Minecraft Crafting Box 8-in-1 [Review]

LEGO has sent The Brothers Brick a copy of the Crafting Box, one of the larger sets from the new minifig-scale Minecraft line. The set includes 518 pieces, and will be $49.99 USD. LEGO hasn’t given us an exact release date, but it should be available in stores around the beginning of November.

Now, I know many LEGO fans roll their eyes at the fact that LEGO picked up the Minecraft license at all, but I love it. I’m a huge Minecraft fan, and I have a bit of history with combining LEGO and Minecraft. I created the first minifig-scale Minecraft creation back in 2011, and was one of three fans involved in the development of the first official LEGO Minecraft set, 21102 Minecraft Microworld. During the development phase of that set, we started off trying to create a minifig-scale set. We quickly realized, however, that it would be very hard to do justice to Minecraft at that scale within the price range that the LEGO Ideas (née Cuusoo) program was targeting, namely $30-$40 USD. The current lineup of six minifig-scale sets is a valiant — but flawed — attempt at doing what the original set could not.

First images of minifigure-scale LEGO minecraft sets [News]

Pictures of the upcoming minifigure-scale minecraft sets have surfaced on a UK toy website. No word yet on the release date or MSRP.

The Cave (21113)
Venture into The Cave on a dangerous quest for vital resources! Wield the iron pickaxe to dig and battle against hostile zombie and spider mobs. The Farm (21114)
Yield renewable resources with The Farm! You’ll need food to survive, so fence in the livestock and channel the flowing water to nurture the crops. Harvest pumpkins, wheat, sugar cane and carrots. Use the crafting table to create a pumpkin helmet or jack-o-lantern. But watch out for the skeleton with his bow and arrow after nightfall! Rebuild the set for more LEGO Minecraft creations or combine with 21115 The First Night and other sets in the series for an even bigger Minecraft adventure! Includes a Steve minifigure with an accessory, plus a skeleton, cow and a sheep.

LEGO Minecraft The End 21107 coming in June

The next set from LEGO Minecraft depicts the dimension known as The End. It will be released in June and retails for $34.99. Here’s the product description:

Once you’ve equipped yourself for the ultimate battle, you’re ready to enter The End. The Ender Dragon is a fearsome foe, and you’d better be prepared for anything when you enter his domain. Now you can relive the adventure of The End with this LEGO micro-world set. The set also includes the Buildable Ender Dragon and Enderman Micromob figures.

Lego Minecraft Creeper

Nick V (Brickthing) said it best when he described the Minecraft Creeper he built as “commonly misunderstood creatures, yearning company but lacking social confidence at crucial moments.” Don’t forget to check out his Minecraft Zombie and Notch figures as well.

Lego Minecraft The Nether 21106 [Review]

Lego Minecraft The Nether is among the two new Lego Minecraft sets released in September. The set contains 466 pieces and retails for $34.99, which you can buy from Amazon.

Here is my summary of the highlights of the set, which are elaborated in the review video below.

Pros:

Lots of dark red 1×1 tiles and bricks, the gray and black tiles can also be useful.
The 1×1 bright light orange tiles are unique to the set

Cons:

There is limited modularity of the set compared to the other two Minecraft sets
The top surface does not have any notable features

This set is not as great as The Village. It has fewer features and modular components. I feel like this is the weakest of the 3 Minecraft sets. It’s a different story if you like dark red of the setting of The Nether. As with Minecraft sets stock can be unpredictable, so now is as good as any time to get it. It does not appear that Lego stores has them for sale.

Lego Minecraft The Village 21105 [Review]

Lego Minecraft The Village is among the two new Lego Minecraft sets released in September. The set contains 469 pieces and retails for $34.99, which you can buy from Amazon.

Here is my summary of the highlights of the set, which are elaborated in the review video below.

Pros:

Includes extra copies of the printed pieces on all 3 micro mob characters
Features 2 removable wall panels
The 1×1 dark green and dark tan tiles are unique to the set

Cons:

Nothing! Unless Lego Minecraft isn’t your cup of tea.

I recommend this set to both builders and Minecraft fans. It is an improvement over the first Lego Minecraft set with the addition of the removable walls. The currently exclusive dark green and dark tan tiles is a huge bonus for builders, and the extra printed parts for the micro mob characters means you’ll easily be able to make 2 of each with a few parts from your own collection. Don’t hesitate to pick up this set as stock can be unpredictable. It does not appear that Lego stores has them for sale either.

SDCC ’13: Noteworthy LEGO happenings

Here’s a quick recap of things seen around the LEGO booth on Preview Night at San Diego Comic-Con 2013 yesterday.

Team Back to the Future member and project contributor of the newly released Back to the Future CUUSOO set, Masashi Togami, was hanging out at the booth with Tim Courtney, LEGO CUUSOO Community Manager.

This lovely, giant-size, brick-built display of the upcoming LEGO Minecraft sets was very popular among the fans.

At 7 PM, they did an unveil of the Minecraft sets at the booth. Executives from Mojang did the honors.

In one corner, you can try out a demo of the upcoming LEGO Marvel Super Hero Game. It’s blast to fly around as Iron Man with repulsor jets or Hulk-out and smash everything in sight. Just for trying out the game, you got a LOKI key chain and a LEGO Marvel Game Poster. Free swag is cool.

And a final note, they are launching the steampunk-themed Master Builder Academy Invention Designer (Level 4) set ~~[We’ll have more on this closer to release -AB]~~. The first 100 sold at the booth will receive a signed and numbered artist’s print of the snazzy illustration of LEGO steampunk featured in the ads.

LEGO unveils new LEGO Minecraft sets – The Village & The Nether [News]

In a surprising twist that reveals what can happen in a post-CUUSOO world, LEGO is today unveiling a full LEGO Minecraft theme, beginning with two new sets, The Village and The Nether. Both sets look to be compatible with the original four-section microscale LEGO Minecraft set from the CUUSOO project, and will retail for the same $34.99 price. They’re due out on September 1, 2013.

The Village includes a pig, Villager, and Zombie micromobs.

The Nether features the Obsidian Portal, and includes two Ghasts and a Zombie Pigman micromob.

LEGO Minecraft provides the opportunity to build, reconfigure and create new Minecraft micro-worlds in a physical LEGO way. The two new 3”x3”x3” models, The Village and The Nether, are on display for the first time at Comic-Con International in San Diego. Fans can also enjoy and take pictures with a large interactive 3D mosaic complete with Micromob character props at the LEGO booth (#2829).

LEGO Minecraft New Product Highlights

The Village
With this model, fans can create and customize their own Minecraft village with LEGO bricks. Just like the game, fans can build houses, grow crops and beware the mines in their own micro-world as well as play out their own storylines with Pig, Villager and Zombie constructible Micromob figures.

The Nether
Builders can create the Minecraft Obsidian Portal and The Nether to explore the newest biome with this micro-scale LEGO model, complete with Netherrack, gravel, flowing lava and bedrock. This model includes two Ghasts and one Zombie Pigman constructible Micromob figures.

The new LEGO Minecraft micro-scale models can be split into four sections and reconfigured for different play experiences. They will be available beginning September 1, 2013 with a suggested retail price of $34.99.

LEGO Minecraft set back in stock – likely very briefly

Lego Minecraft Set 21102 Review

Here’s a video review of the newly released 21102 Minecraft set, the first CUUSOO product to be released outside of Japan. You can get it starting today for $34.99 on Lego Shop at Home.

Summary: the Minecraft set is a decent buy for a collection of small plates and tiles. It is more geared for display with its detailed texture and modular sections. Even though I am not a Minecraft player, I’m believe that Lego has succeeded in turning the game concept into a product (although my initial sentiments still stand).
