Tag Archives: Microscale

Some say “Go big or go home!” but it takes real talent to compress something down to just a few studs and still keep it recognizable. Of course, many of the micro models we feature here aren’t so small after all, whether it’s a vast cityscape or starship.

The Power of the Grand Prix in the Palm of Your Hand

First, an short introduction. I’m Nathan, and I’m a LEGOholic. I won’t cover the nitty-gitty details, since Andrew covered those a few posts down, so I’ll get right down it. I’m not usually into microscale creations, but these tiny Formula 1 racers by Brickshelf user and LUGNETer Peer Kreuger are awesome. Makes me want to get on my hands and knees and push them around the floor while making engine noises.

Special thanks to our reader Marc for providing more infomation on the builder!

Soren’s Mini Advance Wars Units

Advance Wars is by far my favorite Game Boy Advance game, Advance Wars 2 is just as good, and Battalian Wars for Nintendo GameCube totally rocked. As if the game’s units weren’t tiny enough, Soren has successfully distilled them down to mini-scale:

Dimunative, Miniscule, Small, Very Tiny Robots!

Mecha can be pretty big, but Brickshelfer MACHA goes the other direction with a series of tiny creations inspired by Gundam. Click the image to see multiple galleries of pint-size creations:

(Check out the itty-bitty Guncannon in the middle of the picture!)

My only disappointment is that MACHA hasn’t created Gundam itself. Oh well, we can hope for an update.

A Bug, a Girl, a Ship, a Boy

With a recent update, I just discovered Stuart Immonen’s Flickr photostream. Unlike those of us with hundreds (I’m pushing 500) LEGO images, Stuart has just a handful, but they’re all pretty darn cool. In no particular order, here are a few of my favorites.

Gregor Samsa from Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis:

A beautiful lady — Plastic Fantastic indeed:

A “Van Ship” from the anime series Last Exile:

The title character from the classic anime series Astro Boy:

Moko’s latest batch of creations includes two adorably martial vehicles.

Just please leave out the probing...

Brickshelfer and FBTB member Nannan recently posted a cityscape that I didn’t really pay any attention to as I passed over it on Brickshelf. I’d seen cityscapes before:

Yeah, that’s a cute little UFO, but nothing special, right? WRONG!

Nannan has incorporated an Exo-Force light brick with a corresponding fiber-optic tube thingy. Extremely cool and very ingenious!

Micropunk, huh?

Microscale + steampunk = “micropunk” according to Scott Whitesell. Here’s his “steampunk dirigible air fortress” in microscale:

Heavy Swiss Freighter Titan by Jerac

Classic-Spacer Jerac (who, it turns out, isn’t Swiss after all) has posted another awesome entry in his fleet of micro-scale Swiss-themed space ships, the Titan freighter (click for gallery):

The awesome bridge:

At Least Humans Don’t Rust!

Chris Deck is one of my favorite builders in the mini and micro scales. He mostly builds Star Wars vehicles, but he recently posted an updated version of his Colonial Viper from the original Battlestar Galactica TV series:

While we’re at it, here’s Chris’ Galactica:

Micro Cylon Raider by Arpy 2.0

My personal favorite (no offense to winner Mainman) in the recent Classic-Space BSG contest on Flickr (blogged five minutes ago) was this adorable little Cylon raider from Arpy 2.0:

Micro Battlestar Galactica by Justin Vaughn

A Battlestar Galactica building contest was recently held in the Classic-Space group on Flickr. With four entries, the pool wasn’t very big, but it resulted in several nice micro-ships.

Spacer Justin Vaughn (Mainman to most) won with with Galactica:
