We all love a good LEGO Gundam or Macross mecha, but LEGO builders everywhere are also creating excellent models of their own designs. Have a look at them here.

Angels on a pin

I suspect that Pascal (pasukaru76) has more of these delightful fellows coming, but for now we can make do with no-name and Raziel. His first two little LEGO neo-angels (presumably based on Evangelion) are just so cute.

Ooni Brute

Surprisingly, many LEGO fans have never heard of the Ooni or of Galidor, LEGO’s failed action figure line and TV series from 2002. In my ongoing attempt to make Galidor cool, I give you the Ooni Brute. I envision him as a foot soldier of an invading alien army. His helmet assembly isn’t for breathing air, but for regulating internal body temperature because the Ooni are cold blooded.

Duck and cover

In other news, legorobo:waka snuck this beauty onto flickr, right in between a wall of large and generally unoriginal pictures expressing dislike for flickr. Consider it a mecha chaser.

Imperial Guard family photo

TBB recognizes the importance of family on this day dedicated to mothers everywhere. Lego Admiral has been hard at work building up his force of Warhammer 40K futuristic killing machines and he has thoughtfully gathered them all together for a group-shot. The Valkyrie Assault Carrier hovers maternally above the tribe, and from left to right: Leman Russ Tank, Sentinel, Hydra Flak Tank, Chimera APC and the robust Baneblade Super Heavy Tank. Who can forget old uncle Baneblade?…lets just keep him away from the hooch this year. If you’d like to see close-ups of any member of the Imperial Guard family, Lego Admiral has thoughtfully included them in his photostream.

Mecha mayhem

Izzo‘s latest mech is a fierce-looking combat machine that took some inspiration from District 9. Check out the negative space stripes in the armor that give this creation a distinct look.

Turret Man!

Tyler (legohaulic) brings us a fantastic WWII fantasy creation. Turret Man punches you in the face with awesome! I’m a huge fan of this style of alternate history/science. I even managed to sit through Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, for the vehicle design, Tyler does a great job of capturing that 40s vision of what the future could hold. Check out his concept sketch for the model, too.

A Splash of Color

A. Yates (A. Yates Industrial) brings us a robot that helps prove that there’s no bad color in the Lego palette. Plenty of builders out there leave colors like pink only for deliberately “girly” creations, rather than making widespread use. Here, we can clearly see that pink has a place, beyond just ships and mecha with female minifigs at the controls.

Friday Night Fights (Round 2)

Welcome back to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in fabulous Las Vegas Nevada for another hard hitting edition of Friday Night Fights! Tonight’s match-up is a battle of TBB rookies looking to move of the ranks and make a name for themselves in the hotly contested middleweight division. Now for the tale of the tape:

Fighting out of the red corner…the pride of Shiga, Japan…Nathan “The Hammer” Penonzek (– NHI – Nathan’s heavy industry) and his mighty “NHI MHS-NFA3-03FT

NHI MHS-NFA3-03FT.

And fighting out of the blue corner…from the wrong side of the tracks…Miguel “Rocket” Reizinho (MReizinho) and his “LL-897 Rocket Launcher Redux“.

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding the outcome of this pugilistic endeavor. On the first episode of Friday Night Fights John Stephens (-=Steebles=-) won a crushing 3-0 victory over his much better known opponent. What will happen this week? Who will experience the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat?

Hands Up!

This nimble robot by Spudbricks looks ready to rob–or perhaps arrest–anyone who comes across its path. I love the contrast between that menacing AI head and the adorable robot boots.

This Jolly Roger transforms

If I were checking out TBB right now, I’d probably think something along the lines of: ‘oh no, not another mecha!’ However, my excuse for blogging this model by daikoncat is that this is not just any old mecha; it’s the Skull Leader from the Macross saga.

VF-1S Valkyrie Skull Leader Battroid Mode

I used to watch the series as a child (although I knew it as Robotech). In fighter mode, the Valkyrie resembles the F-14 Tomcat and the Skull Leader’s markings are obviously based on the US Navy’s ‘Jolly Rogers’ squadron. As a big Tomcat fan and a big fan of the Jolly Rogers, I loved it and I love this model.

VF-1S Valkyrie Skull Leader Fighter Mode

This is not the first Valkyrie we’ve blogged, but it does look super-poseable. Mecha don’t get much cooler.

Tank-Spank

Flickr user Dryvvall had teased us with some quite stunning creations last May, and then slowly slid back into the shadows. Well I am happy to see that he is posting again.

The recent posts are chock full of fabulous designs, but this shot in particular caught my eye and tickled my funny bone.

Close Quarters

As Dryvvall explains:
A corporate Fenrir takes on an MBT. This tactic is known colloquially as the Ghetto Stomp or the Tank-Spank. The crafty ‘mech has denied the tank its main cannon.

It also appears that we missed this fantastic dropship from last August.

Nidhogg Dropship

Please be sure to peruse through Dryvvall’s full photostream…he is certainly a builder to keep an eye on.

Plunk

A. Yates (A YATES INDUSTRIALS.) has been on a roll lately with a series of small mecha he calls Labor Force Mechanicals. This particular version is the block-headed LFM-3 “Plunk“, and although it may lack the character of the LFM-2, I think the splash of color makes up for it. And yes, Virginia, it fits a fig. It is also nice to see a mecha once in a while that doesn’t have a gun or a giant flaming sword. I love violent robots as much as the next guy; I just like a little variety.
