McLaren’s GT for the win

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is an automotive endurance race that tests the limits of cars and their teams. Highlighted in the film Ford v Ferrari, the race challenges teams to beat the competition by going the farthest within 24 hours instead of getting to a finish line first. Speed and reliability were crucial factors that led this notable design to victory, though Ford forcing Ken Miles to slow down helped. This model by KMP MOCs pays homage to the 1966 winner, by technicality, the Ford GT40 Mk2 driven by Bruce McLaren. The white circle and hood stripe nicely contrasts with the black body of the rest of the car. Gotta love those rounded 1×1 plates for their utility in design. The builder also makes use of new Speed Champions pieces and techniques to achieve a smooth, 8-stud wide design for this iconic car.

LEGO Speed Champions 76905 Ford GT Heritage Edition and Bronco R [Review]

Even if you are not a motorsport geek you may have heard about the 1966 Daytona 24 Hour Continental race known for Ford’s 24-hour endurance win. By the way, the event was portrayed in the 2019 movie Ford v Ferrari starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon. To celebrate the 55th anniversary of the legendary achievement, last August, Ford revealed a brand new Ford GT Heritage Edition. And while car collectors are hunting down the new edition of the GT, another Ford’s icon, Bronco R, is competing in one of the most dangerous off-road races in the world, Baja 1000. Together these two very different vehicles ended up in one 660-piece LEGO Speed Champions set, 76905 Ford GT Heritage Edition and Bronco R which will be available starting June 1 for US $49.99 | CAN $69.99 | UK £44.99.

A Technic gunmetal Ford GT is cocked and loaded

Builder Lachlan Cameron has replicated the 2019 Ford GT quite nicely with Technic bits in an understated gunmetal gray. Much of its complex shaping is achieved through considerable build skill and liberal use of flex tubing cased in Technic pin connectors along the roofline and hood details, while the same treatment is achieved with 1×3 liftarms along the front fenders. I’m a fan of sports cars with an understated primary color scheme but a flashy secondary color (in this case tertiary color in red)…Well, it’s just enough flash to let us know it means serious business.

The real thing is loaded with six cylinders in the chamber, seemingly a underwhelming number for such an aggressive beast. With this in mind, you may be tempted to race this car in your Monte Carlo but doing so would be akin to bringing a knife to a gunfight, which so many action spy movies attest is a bad idea. It can crank 647 horsepower out of those six bullets with a top speed of 216 mph. Lock, stock and barrel, this is one fast projectile indeed!
