We love builds with character! Creating characters from LEGO elements, whether traditional System bricks or using elements from Bionicle and Constraction themes, is an amazing way to showcase your building skills. Brining out emotion and personality in bricks is an art!

The Skeleton Stag & the Big Rad Wolf

Halloween may have just passed, but there’s still tons of scary creations trotting around the LEGO community. One such evil thing is this skeleton figure by Patrick Biggs. Utilizing Hero Factory, System, and Technic parts, Patrick has created a stunning form-fitting demonic beast, one you really wouldn’t want to meet in a darkened foggy forest:

But Patrick has built another monster too–one that you might actually want to meet, assuming you’re in desperate need for a surfing buddy. Which of course we all are. Meet Chad, the Big Rad Wolf:

Who just scored the most candy on Halloween? This guy!

Japanese builder (and TBB regular) nobu_tary joins the Halloween celebration with this adorable pair of costumed kids. I like how Nobu has differentiated the Frankenstein’s Monster costume from the kid himself, but it’s the awesome expressions on both kids’ faces that I love. Clearly, the little girl has a long night of dealing with her brother’s sugar highs ahead of her!

Change into LEGO champions, to save the LEGO world

We’ve featured quite a few Pokémon on The Brothers Brick before, but Digimon hasn’t gotten a lot of love (which is par for the course). To bring back a bit of the Digital World, nobu_tary brings us a fantastic rendition of WarGreymon, one of the most iconic Digimon of all time.

Prepare yourself for a nasty turn

Will this Halloween Week of Wonders never cease? Apparently not! There’s more than meets the eye with these awesome little studs-out Halloween figurines by accomplished young LEGO sculptor Will Ho. Each one has a different mechanical “reveal” – click to watch the video demonstrations. I particularly like the design of the Invisible Man – very clever indeed!

Dressed to kill

Having masqueraded variously as Elmo, Blue Man Group and Marie Antoinette in previous years, I’m a firm believer that costumes are the best thing about Halloween. So in our week-long exploration of the holiday, let’s take a look at a couple!

I’m not sure whether this vamp and vampire by Brothers Brick regular Letranger Absurde are intended to represent costumed party-goers or bona fide members of the Nosferatu, but there is so much to love about this build – from the perfectly proportioned outfits, to the clever part usage, and attention to detail in the dilapidated background.

But what’s better than a LEGO costume you can actually wear? I would happily go trick-or-treating in See Music‘s “mask of horror”, which is constructed entirely from Bionicle pieces and bears more than a passing resemblance to Donnie Darko. Not sure how you’d actually eat the candy in this thing, though!

Man the Guns, Join the Fight

Wise part selection is the key to any successful Lego creation; and that’s one thing Brick Burger is clearly well aware of. Using a rather specific (and large!) minifigure headpiece from the Superheroes line, he built a giant, unique, and very-well scaled Space Marine—one with an even larger space gun to boot. Perhaps the only thing more amazing is how the print of the headpiece perfectly matches the personality of the extreme character he has created.

Week of Wonder ...and Witches ...and Werewolves ...and Wookies

Halloween is less than a week away. For kids, it’s one night of dressing up, trick-or-treating, and gorging on vast amounts of delicious candy. For parents, it’s several frantic weeks of constructing costumes, decorating houses, and avoiding vast amounts of fattening candy. Yes, this holiday really does have something for everyone!

To get into the spirit of the season, we’ll be bringing you the best new Halloween-themed LEGO creations all week, starting with this deviously constructed witch by Serbian builder DjorDje. “Bionicle, Bionicle, toil and trouble…”

And for another fine example of witchcraft (see what I did there?) look no further than this old hag named Henrietta, by teen builder P Squiddy…

It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this.

Seb Toutouille has been posting cute “blockhead” versions of iconic characters for several months now. His latest is Link from The Legend of Zelda, with posable arms and quizzically tilted head.

I also love Han Solo and Chewbacca.

Finally, a wee Yoda and even tinier Artoo.

In the space of barely 20 years, the Internet has transformed human society to a degree probably not witnessed since the invention of agriculture, or electricity. It invades every facet of our daily lives, every corner of our collective consciousness. French builder 74louloute put together this little scene that reflects our new global obsession, and the way that it seems to have taken on a life of its own:

“Tiny Adventure” tells a huge story

Many builds featured here are stand-alone creations, frequently based on pre-existing material. So we were truly impressed to discover Tiny Adventure by Korean builder Yosool. Not only does this eclectic collection of brick-built characters incorporate a ton of play features, but each one also has a fully fleshed out backstory, woven into an overarching theme with a very specific goal: To help children appreciate the global ecological problem of adventive animals (aka invasive species).

In the builder’s own words: The story starts at a peaceful town of swamp. One day, adventive species suddenly appear, and turn the small town into a huge chaos. These predators are always hungry, and they devour every native species they can find. Extinction is only a matter of time. Tiny and Tale, green frog brothers native to the swamp town, put their heads together to solve the serious problem.”

U CAN HAZ MEMES

Ignoring for a moment that the word “meme” was actually invented to mean something rather different (grrrr, Internet), memes seem to have become the mode of self-expression for our age. So if you’re gonna meme about LEGO, it makes sense to do it with LEGO, right? To help you out, I have created uncaptioned LEGO replicas of some well-known meme templates. Grumpy Cat and Y-U-NO you may already know, but say hello to Doge, Cuteness Overload and Success Kid!

I’m making these images completely public domain. That means you are free to share them, edit them, upload them to your favorite meme generator website, or crack out the old Impact font and caption these to express your opinion on all things LEGO. Described by his creator Seth MacFarlane as an “evil Rex Harrison”, this ~~psychopathic matricidal infant genius~~ adorable little rascal from TV’s Family Guy probably needs no introduction. But the question of whether the other characters in the show can actually hear him talking remains a topic of endless debate! TBB regular Jimmy Fortel has put together this great little palm-sized version Stewie for our enjoyment:
