Archimedes Chen built some fun LEGO takes on C-3PO, BB-8, R2-D2, and Stormtroopers, as they appear in The Force Awakens. Though my favorites here are the First Order Stormtroopers with clever parts usage on each helmet’s face mask, all six are packed with just the right amount of recognizable details without looking busy.
It must be love! The original Brick Nerd Tommy Williamson has built this fine LEGO facsimile of a classic album cover. But there is a method to Tommy’s, erm, madness. The theme of this year’s BrickCon is Madness and as life long Ska fans, Tommy and I are very excited that the organizers have decided to honor one of our favorite bands in this fashion. To celebrate, this year’s Bricks of Character display will be suitably themed, from the trophies, to the badge bricks, and maybe even our outfits. So come visit our house, in the middle of the Con, and prepare for a cardiac arrest!
As a child, I was always a little on edge about the idea of a gingerbread man coming to life. Now I’m just plain terrified. This maniacal-looking LEGO cookie by Kelvin Low is truly a thing of nightmares. Don’t let the gumdrop buttons or frosting swirls fool you, if this guy comes out of your oven… run!
Disney’s Zootopia was one of this year’s breakout successes, and officer Judy Hops, Zootopia’s first rabbit in uniform, carried audiences with her fast-paced charm. Here’s a fine LEGO version of Hops with her carrot-pen, built by Sheo. She’s even poseable, and pretty much the same scale as the awesome Nick Wilde we highlighted early this year.
Zeus, the Greek god of thunder and lightning, is keeping an eye over this temple built in his honor by Oliver Becker. Or is he getting ready to smite it? I’m not really sure. Either way, this tiny LEGO temple nestled in billowing clouds is lovely.
Those technic pins make perfect Greek columns and that micro cypress tree is fantastic. Oliver built this creation for round one of the 2016 MocOlympics over on MOCpages.
Karf Oolhu proves once again he’s the master of combining random parts to create models that manage to be somehow both funny and sinister. This peculiar skeletal figure lurches from the darkness, tentacles and wings poking out of its robe, an obsidian dagger strapped at its waist. Karf says we need to submit to it. Personally I’m going to run away instead.
I created the first Brick-moji as a gift for someone very dear to me. But then I realized the pattern was repeatable, and the project kind of took on a life of it’s own! If you’re at BrickCon in Seattle next week, you’ll find these lurking in the Bricks of Character section, where I’ll be giving each one away to any attendee that can offer me something interesting to trade in return.

I don’t envy Alice, and her upcoming confrontation with these Card Knights. Julius von Brunk has been working on these LEGO Card Knight minifigures for an upcoming Alice in Wonderland display. We’re treated to a hand full of Aces, along with the Joker. It’s certainly a hand full of dangerous cards no matter which game you play!
Kevin Ryhal engages in a little Castle-building… Frank Castle, that is. For anyone who doesn’t know (and who’s been living under a rock and missed Daredevil Season 2) that’s the real name of the hardcase vigilante known as The Punisher.
The crimefighter’s signature suit and skull device are captured well here, but what makes the model for me is the posing and the stripped-back scenery. The image comes together like one of the classic covers from the Punisher: Warzone comic series, and coming from a serious John Romita Jnr fan, that’s high praise indeed. Best of all, I love that Kevin has perfectly rendered Frank’s broken nose…
Devid VII is getting married. And what better way to celebrate than to build a beautiful little model to commemorate the occasion? The expressions on the character’s faces are lovely, and the top hat and veil add enough detail to make clear this is a bride and bridegroom. Finish it all off with an irregular base, a smart heart shape, and some flowers and you’ve got a perfect LEGO tribute to love. Good luck Devid — I hope you guys will be as happy together as the characters in your scene.
The hit video game Overwatch continues to generate a steady stream of great LEGO builds from fans of the game, and this large version of the peanut-butter-loving tank hero Winston by Paul Lee is one of my favorites so far.
Back in December 2013, Finnish builder Eero Okkonen wowed us with a Bionicle / Technic build of Samus Aran in her Zero Suit. Almost three years later and he’s at it again, this time with the famous heroine in her Power Suit.
This huge build (this time built with regular bricks) is a sight to behold. Thanks to the large size, the builder really got to do some impressive shaping, especially nailing the spherical pauldron. The colour choices too are superb, with the azure blue Arm Cannon being both a literal and figurative highlight.
