Koen‘s LEGO version of the little mouse that started it all is phenomenal. Just look at that face! So expressive. This adorable Mickey stands 21 centimeters tall and is made from 313 LEGO pieces. Koen was inspired to build Mickey after he noticed that the new inverted dish with handle looks a lot like the classic Disney mouse ears. My favorite details are the sausage eyebrows and gloved hands.
These Fire Mario and Magikoopa sculptures by John Tooker show Fire Mario using his fireballs to fight Magikoopa (Kamek) on his way to face Bowser. Amazingly, these are John’s first LEGO sculptures and are definitely not small in scale. Mario stands about 18 inches tall and is made of approximately 2600 bricks, while Magikoopa was created using about 1300 bricks.
Mario’s face is well crafted and easily recognisable despite the use of simple bricks and plates rather than more complex parts. Sculptures designed on a larger scale can be pricey and heavy, so a lot of LEGO builders tend to stick to simpler 2×2 and 2×4 bricks for the bulk of their building.

It’s November, and that means that our pal Tommy Williamson over at BrickNerd is hosting his annual NERDvember building contest. This year the theme of the contest is Disney, so contestants are encouraged to come up with Disney-inspired versions of the iconic Nerdly character.

World of Warcraft (WOW) is celebrating its 12-year anniversary this month and there’s no better way to celebrate than by building chibi-versions of the game’s most iconic characters with LEGO. Mike Dung built a downright cute Illidan Stormrage and an even more adorable Lich King.
These little guys are chock-full of amazingly accurate details, from the Lich King’s iconic helmet to Illidan’s rockin’ bod. I also love the simple, yet effect way Mike build these guy’s weapons (Arthas’ Frostmourne and Illidan’s warglaives). I think I better log in now and run a few daily quests.
Pascal explores the depths of space with this awesome rendition of V.I.N.CENT. (Vital Information Necessary CENTralized.) from Disney’s The Black Hole. The Black Hole has not aged well, in my opinion, but V.I.N.CENT. has always been one of my favorite movie robots. Pascal has managed to capture his essence quite well. You can almost hear Roddy McDowell’s voice coming over the speakers. The expression of the eyes and studless build technique are perfect. One also has to love the presentation, using the same black hole graphic as in the movie.
He’s been known by many names: The Mind Sculptor, Architect of Thought, Memory Adept, Telepath Unbound, the Living Guildpact, Unraveler of Secrets, and Vryn’s Prodigy. But now he needs a snappy LEGO-themed name because Magic: The Gathering fan Sergio just built Jace Beleren out of LEGO. Built in the classic LEGO miniland scale, this LEGO creation is based on original artwork by Chase Stone.
Sergio has also built the other members of the Gatewatch: the lovely necromancer Liliana Vess; the fire wielder Chandra Nalaar; the elven nature-mage Nissa Revane; and their commander the warrior-mage Gideon Jura. In addition to the great figures, the composition and lighting on these photos is simply phenomenal.

I wouldn’t dream of telling anyone else how to vote, let alone people who live in a different country to me. However, to any external observer (and to most of the Americans I’ve spoken to) the current Presidential election campaign has been singularly depressing in its negative tone. And that’s what prompted me to build this model.
Here’s hoping whoever wins out in tomorrow’s vote will at least attempt to heal some of the divisions that have opened up. Whatever happens, if you don’t vote, you can’t complain.

This brick-built figure by simply bricking it is really very striking. The choice of colors to highlight the hair of this figure is perfect, and the builder incorporated just the right number of greebles and unexpected LEGO parts into the build. It surprises without overwhelming and achieves the desired effect without overcrowding. I love it!
Mr. Unknown has created an incredibly well-constructed face in this study of contemplation. I especially like the shaping around the eyes, the forehead and the tousled hair. The hand leaves a bit to be desired but it doesn’t detract from the overall build. Nicely done!
Builder Deus Otiosus used LEGO to bring characters from the classic children’s book The Adventures of Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey to life. Everyone’s favorite fourth graders, George Beard and Harold Hutchins, along with the Captain himself are off to fight evil. But which villain will they face today? Wedgie Woman? The Bionic Booger Boy? Maybe Professor Pippy Pee-Pee Poopypants?
I love the sense of motion in this build. The fabric of the cape and flag really look fluid, even though they are built from brick. And of course, the characters look great (if not a little terrified to be flying out the window).
