Predating Monk by a few decades, this gripping TV detective show featured a pair of chipmunks ready to solve any crime, no matter how or small. Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers was a staple of kids’ cartoons in the 90s, and now this dynamic duo has been brought to the brick by an equally talented pair of builders, with Chip built by Leonid An and Dale by Vlad Lisin.

This piece of digital art was painted with LEGO elements that we’re familiar with — Technic gears and System tiles. Anthony Wilson provokes thought and makes one peek deep into the depths of the machine. What is the machine? Who is the machine? A still of a slender wanderer perhaps, navigating an endless journey. What is he searching for? The sharp and protruding edges give a sense of evil and danger ahead. Do the elements rearrange themselves to hinder the wanderer or do they give heed to his commands? Or are these the dreams of the toiling, tired and weary LEGO fan in preparation for tomorrow’s brick convention?
Usually, fan-built BrickHeadz models feature well-known public figures or fictional characters from pop culture, like The Little Mermaid, Scooby Doo & Shaggy, Rose Tico and Jar Jar, and my own Trump and Putin BrickHeadz. For a nice change, this Hazmat responder by √erde’ is a really well-designed model true to the BrickHeadz aesthetic while clearly depicting the Hazmat uniform. Armed with what looks like a flame-thrower, humanity is safe from any potential outbreak.
One of my favorite details is the simple use of hinge plates in two colors to form the life support tube on the front, and he has a complete life support system on his back.
This is Bob the Alien. Bob the Alien is a salesman. He manages a whole department. Bob works for his manager David Liu. David taught Bob everything he knows and helped him to be where he is today. In fact, one could say Bob only exists today because of David.

Builder Eero Okkonen is a master of bringing characters to life in brick form. This construct is of Do-It-Yourself-Seraph, a character from the Magic: The Gathering game. I must admit the concept of having a Cyborg Angel as a gameplay character is quite an appealing combination. I love the technique of the windswept hair and downcast gaze giving the character a solemn and thoughtful appearance. Builders who choose to work with only LEGO elements have their challenges, especially for creating unusual characters like this, but it’s always helpful to be able to reach into Technic and Bionicle as Eero has done. If those wings look familiar to you, that’s because the came off a set from The Lord of the Rings theme, Pirate Ship Ambush (79008).
Brickheadz releases are on a roll with LEGO recently. We now have Jack Skellington and Sally from Tim Burton’s Nightmare before Christmas in the lineup. While there isn’t any release date announced just yet, we expect the price to be consistent with the other double pack sets at $19.99. Will this be part of your must-haves? When it comes to Japanese art, one of the most iconic pieces produced during the late Edo period was Hokusai’s “The Great Wave off Kanagawa.” This masterpiece helped to inspire the character of Hatsusika Hokusai, found in the free-to-play role-playing-game (RPG) Fate/Grand Order. Mike Dung has made two versions of this character, including a cute chibi figure. In the chibi-build, Mike’s brick-built wave is instantly recognizable and beautiful representation of Hokusai’s artwork. The wave in the other model is cleverly built with several trans-light blue garage door pieces.

Wreck-It Ralph was one of those movies that did pretty well and I thought was a great story but somehow wasn’t very memorable in the long run, for me at least. Seeing YOS Brick’s build certainly jogged my mind indeed and reignited some of the memories of Ralph going rogue (aka gone Turbo!) and with the new sequel coming up, we get two of the main characters in BrickHeadz form: Vanellope and Ralph. Well, Ralph isn’t strictly a BrickHeadz; he’s more the appropriate extended form, or to coin a new phrase: a Big Brickheadz, perhaps?
We see a lot of LEGO models that attempt to create very life-like scenes seen through an almost documentarian lens. Rarer, however, is the build that takes a more artistic approach, such as this pair of ballet dancers by Nicolas PICOT. Using a flat style with lots of curved bricks across a few planes of depth, Nicolas has emulated a photograph, and the dancers’ frozen-in-motion pose is conveyed perfectly.
Brütal Legend is the satirical video game about heavy metal that was remarkably well received, considering its unusual premise. Matt De Lanoy brings us the epic sculpture of the game’s hero, Eddie Riggs, who’s voiced in the game by none other than Jack Black, of course.

….And if this scene by Grant Davis is any indication, it involves hours of watching television re-runs of Pokémon. Grant’s model is a representation of artwork shared by Deviant Art-user, Nerd-Scribbles. Some impressive-looking techniques were used in constructing Pikachu’s native habitat, including hundreds of dark tan jumper plates used to form the curve of the Poké Ball’s wall. Pikachu looks pretty iconic, right down to the gaping mouth shouting its signature “PIKA!” Grant’s version may be missing the purple Gamecube found in the original artwork, but rumor has it Ash keeps Pikachu on a pretty tight leash now.
Builder Patrick B. is taking us back to a fond childhood memory in the Hundred Acre Wood with this quintet of beloved characters from A. A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh series, consisting of Eeyore, Tigger, Pooh, Rabbit, and Kanga and Roo. Oh joy! The ears are the standout technique on each of the characters, made of various tiles and slopes, but my favorite detail is Rabbit’s whiskers, made with lever handles.
Bonus fact: Winnie the Pooh was translated into Latin in the 1950s, and Winnie illie Pu proceeded to become the only Latin-language book ever to make it to the New York Times Best Seller list.
