As Autumn deepens here in the northern hemisphere, our thoughts turn to falling leaves, harvest festivals, and the hooting of distant owls. Norwegian builder Lego Fjotten has built this adorable Eurasian Eagle Owl for a contest on Brikkelauget.no. While one’s eyes are certainly drawn to the owl’s bright yellow eyes and enormous ear tufts, the nice parts usage (NPU) on this owl is as obvious as the nose on its face — that big white nose is, after all, a surfboard.

Prepared to get ratted out...
Historically rats have a pretty bad rap, what with the Black Death and that whole “sinking ship” thing. But I can tell you from personal experience they actually make really fun pets, even for kids (…and they’re short-lived, nudge, wink). Just don’t google “fecal pellets” if you’re on the fence about getting one. They’re even cute in LEGO form, as MOCPages user TheActionFigure demonstrates with this amazingly lifelike scale model of the common rat:
Who goes there?
This watchful owl, by Mihai Marius Mihu, looks poised to fly off and tell its master of your approach. Proceed with caution!
The owl is nicely done but the angles on that dead tree? Very elegant.
Cruising across Antarctica in style
Paleolithic cat food
Built for the MOC Olympics contest in a round focused on human evolution, Deus Otiosus created this scene depicting one of our forebears about to become a cat’s lunch. The sculpture and posing of both characters is perfect. And as an added bonus, you can even enjoy this build from all angles thanks to a handy spinning animated version.
Definitely no ugly duckling
Not many people have mastered the LEGOLAND building style, outside of the master builders of LEGOLAND themselves. But for several years now, teen builder Joshua Christenson has been employing this technique to create convincing sculptures far smaller than those you’d typically see in the theme parks, as illustrated by this beautiful swan…
Warrior Rat
Jonas (Legopard) says that this is a tablescrap constructed out of an assortment of LEGO bricks done at the Bricking Bavaria event. Impressive improvisation skills to say the least.
Thug Bunny wants your candy and your soul.
French builder 6kyubi6 a.k.a. Jimmy makes his fourth appearance of 2013 with “Thug Bunny“, a vision of leporine horror that is sure to get you ready for Samhain. Some models don’t need explanation or description so I’ll leave you two alone. I can’t stare into those eyes any longer…look for more entries in the Badnimals series as the month progresses.

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding the outcome of this pugilistic endeavor by way of comment. Fangs vs. Claws
Drill Man can certainly deal with bunnies, but I don’t know if he would fare so well if he came across this snake and scorpion on stroll through the desert. 74louloute builds this epic battle of nature for the ongoing competition with Sweetsha. The use of minifig legs for the snake’s tail is genius, as well as the head/face techniques on the scorpion…well pretty much all of this is genius actually.
Keep ’em coming guys.
“How true, how true said the Sour Kangaroo”
“Now, just imagine you’re weightless, in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by tiny little seahorses.”
Germany’s Deus (“Big D”) Otiosus provides a soothing image for your Sunday perusal entitled “Sihors wif korals“. As you know, constant reader, I have a soft spot for undersea action and I really enjoyed Big D’s simple use of the 2×2 jumpers. In the process of writing this blog post I learned that a seahorse does not have a stomach, so food passes through its body very quickly, requiring it to feed nearly constantly. I have an uncle I have an uncle with a very similar digestive system and eating habits; I might have to start referring to him uncle-seahorse from now on.
