Skid-steer loaders are very versatile pieces of construction equipment, by virtue of their many different attachments such as blades, cutters, trenchers and snow blowers.
This brilliant little model by Sinan Bitişik does not include any zombies, but looking at the gnarly attachment to its front, evidently intended for cutting asphalt, I could not help but think of an alternative use.
Tim Goddard (Roguebantha) has been on something of a cosmic constabulary kick lately, bringing forth a number of glorious models from that best-of-the-80’s LEGO theme, Space Police. So far he’s got a large landing craft, a nifty little runabout, some smaller vehicles and drones, and my favorite, the quintessential icon of the omnipresent State, a watchtower. The models have all been given a healthy dose of modern building techniques, while still incorporating the classic aesthetic. Updating old themes like this is a popular trend these days, but as long as they’re this well done, I don’t mind. Here’s a gallery of all Tim’s cool Space Police models.
Korean builder zkdlalsxm captures all the cuteness of Pikachu with this model of the iconic yellow mouse Pokemon. ϞϞ(๑⚈ ․̫ ⚈๑)∩
Michał Kaźmierczak spent 7 months to create the iconic gates of Erebor as seen in The Hobbit. The scene shows the meeting between Bard the Bowman and Dwarfs. This colossal build is 5’3″ tall, and you have to see it with the builder to appreciate the scale.
I saw Paul Hetherington‘s modern townhouse at Brickcon last year and was immediately impressed by the elegant artistic style of the creation. There is a fully detailed interior along with working light fixures. Take a look at more photos on Flickr to see different angles of the building, each offering a new visual aesthetic.

Hot on the heels of his Ultraman build that we blogged last week, umamen brings us this amazing 8″ tall Star Wars stormtrooper figurine. The detailing and devious construction of the helmet alone are enough for me, but apparently this thing is even poseable too (…well, to some extent).
At this point true Star Wars fans can argue about which stormtrooper variation this is, or whether that’s Han or Luke under the helmet. Boring conversation anyway, because here’s a second dose of Star Wars LEGO goodness for you – a Chibi Micro Fighter version of the LAAT from the Clone Wars, by Yxxn. It’s adorable!
Even though this piece – entitled “Youth” – is a character build, the distinctive lanky style of it’s creator (Australian mecha builder Aaron Williams) is still recognizable. All that’s missing is a skateboard and a bunch of back-talk!
I don’t know which I love more in this Guilds of Historica build by Jacob Nion – the very believable battle-worn siege tower, or the fantastical yet beautifully constructed rhino that’s pulling it. Let’s hope this practice doesn’t lead to rhino’s in GoH becoming as endangered as they are on our planet!
The Clone on a Plate Contest wrapped up with an astounding 124 entries! This one day flash contest kept everyone here on the edge of their seat to see what the creative LEGO geniuses out there would come up with! This isn’t our biggest contest ever, but if we extrapolated the number of entries over a typical contest length of a month this would have generated a whopping 3840 entries!
With so many entries we had a very hard time determining what would be worthy of the COAP Prize Pack. It was a tough for the contestants as they were given just one instruction: “Clone on a Plate”, with multiple interpretations:
From an artistic side, I think we all agreed VerSen‘s “Walk on the Water” entry was simply gorgeous:
Equally artistic, with a very Shepard Fairey entry, we have Nick Royer (HJ Media Studios) with a cool rendered clone and some 3rd party weapons:
Many went for the puns on clone and plate, with entries ranging from: clone (brand) on a (dinner) plate, clone on a (tectonic) plate), clone (sheep) on a plate, or clone (food/GMO) on a plate. There were others that did a fantastic job adding their own personal flair to their clones, and a few less flattering entries.
But the winner of the Prize pack was the entry that made us laugh the most. Despite the fairly obvious method of creating entries, Jonas (Legopard) provided the perfect dead pan entry of “Clone on a Plate WITH INSTRUCTION”:
This made us laugh not once, not twice, but three times as Mr. Jonas proceeded to submit his entries to LEGO Ideas, and subsequently get rejected.

And on behalf of the TBB team, I do wish to apologize to LEGO Ideas for the extra work, though I assume that was definitely the highlight of their day, as it was ours.
From the same people that brought Godzilla to our screens over half a century ago, came the Saturday morning kaiju punch-fest Ultraman (ウルトラマン). A staple of Japanese television, this show seems to have experienced regular revivals and adaptations since the first series aired in 1966.
Flickr member umamen has built this perfect recreation of the Ultraman’s long standing, size-changing nemesis Alien Baltan. How a species with crab claws instead of opposable thumbs would ever get past the invention of the wheel is left as an exercise for the reader. But then again, who said this show had to actually make sense!?
According to Marvin the Martian, who peers at us from his telescope on Mars, we are very very curious. Matt Rowntree brings us this fantastic rendition of everyone’s favorite Martian:
While the figure by itself would have been enough for me to share, I love how Matt spent the extra time to build out the famous telescope he is typically seen with. I particulary like the top of the helmet with its fantastic usage of a series of skis. Though the secret fun trick of this build is how he built the rim of the helmet.
