Autumn comes to Mortage Keep

This LEGO castle by Patrick Massey is both lovely and somewhat terrifying. The spiky crenellations and hard textures of the castle make it look like the home of an evil wizard or an otherwise sourly-dispositioned inhabitant. However, at the same time, the lush autumn foliage and the soft round curves of the tower would make this keep the likely home of a princess. Which is it?

In addition to the great colors and diverse textures of Patrick’s fantastic castle build, I also love how the rock formations and the nearby stream seem to pour over the sides of the build’s frame.

The fastest traffic cop in the city

Disney’s Zootopia was one of this year’s breakout successes, and officer Judy Hops, Zootopia’s first rabbit in uniform, carried audiences with her fast-paced charm. Here’s a fine LEGO version of Hops with her carrot-pen, built by Sheo. She’s even poseable, and pretty much the same scale as the awesome Nick Wilde we highlighted early this year.

A LEGO temple worthy of a god

Zeus, the Greek god of thunder and lightning, is keeping an eye over this temple built in his honor by Oliver Becker. Or is he getting ready to smite it? I’m not really sure. Either way, this tiny LEGO temple nestled in billowing clouds is lovely.

Those technic pins make perfect Greek columns and that micro cypress tree is fantastic. Oliver built this creation for round one of the 2016 MocOlympics over on MOCpages.

Holy chiseled abs, Batman!

Few do strong LEGO character creations as well as nobu_tary. Just check out Metabee, Rei Ayanami and RX-77-2 Guncannon, all made by the same builder. But today’s build is none other than the caped crusader, which has been captured brilliantly despite a lack of facial features.

While the chunky brick build is obviously the best part about it, I think the cape (most likely from the LEGO Star Wars poseable action figure line) is worth a mention too. It probably doesn’t let the build glide through the air or block bullets, but it looks damn good.

LEGO Viking stave church

This lovely Viking stave church by John Tooker has some great textures and details. Just look at that cobblestone wall, the wood planks that make up the walls of the church, and of course the round 2×2 tiles that make up the roof. Except for the grassy areas (which look a little bit like the astroturf on a putt-putt golf course) there is not a single untextured area of this build. Very well done.

Shakespeare’s Globe Theater in Microscale

The Globe Theater is iconic, with a long rich history. Artisan Bricks has recreated the theater in microscale, complete with removable roof for easy stage access.

This tiny theater features the iconic round shape, with the open arena for the audience. There are balconies all around, with the elevated stage.

The Battlestar Chelone

Since the 2004-2009 Battlestar Galactica television series is easily one of my favorite shows of all time, I immediately fell in love with Bart Larrow‘s recent build, the Battlestar Chelone. Even if you haven’t seen the TV show yourself, there’s a lot to love about this LEGO ship.

Just check out those greebly little turrets and the fantastic hanger bays that light up. Best of all, Bart’s ship is an ugly, almost blocky hunk of a ship, which is simply perfect for the Battlestar Galactica universe. According to the builder, the name Chelone is Greek for “turtle” and obviously refers to the ship’s armored hull. I know that if I’m ever forced to live out the rest of my life in a battleship, I’d be lucky to call this baby home.

Imperial Dancetroopers take pointe

Sometimes all a Stormtrooper wants to do is to dance! Laurene Johnsone brings us a little-seen side of the life on an Imperial soldier — the ballet classes.

I like the four clone troopers practising their pointe, but all eyes in the studio are surely on the central pair practising their Swan Lake. This is wonderfully daft — I love it.

Sleek space carrier is ready for battle

Apparently this is SweStar‘s first attempt at a SHIP (a LEGO spaceship exceeding 100 studs in length). It’s a hell of a debut — nice shaping, sharp color blocking, and some smart greebly details. I particularly like the color choices for the striping — the muted sand blue and sand green make for an interesting change from the brighter stripes which seem to have become the staple design choice on brick-built capital ships.

The bridge towards the rear looks fantastic with that raked section beneath, and whilst it’s not bristling with weaponry, the guns it does display look pretty hefty. The trapezoidal cross-section somehow makes the whole thing look both sleek and mean. Check out this view of the bow…

Firefly – the defense choice of the next generation

Horcik Designs looks set to be the premier air defense contractor of the 21st century. The Firefly is their latest UCAV (Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle) and it’s available for purchase now from all good arms dealers.

I love this model’s chunky near-future realism. The white color scheme lends it a certain “astronaut chic” and the restrained use of custom stickers adds nice touches of detail. The rotor assemblies and control surfaces are spot-on, and those guns — brilliant. The builder has also provided a multi-angle composite shot which reveals more of the detail, but also shows a rather haphazard approach to maintenance. Hammers? I doubt that’ll make it into the Firefly’s sales brochure.

Imperial boarders attack the Tantive IV

CozzD has built the iconic corridor sequence from the opening of Star Wars: A New Hope. Whilst LEGO Star Wars creations often feature the exterior of the iconic spaceships, it makes a pleasant change to see other scenes depicted in the brick. The corridor of the Tantive IV blockade runner is captured perfectly, as is the sense of rising tension as the rebels prepare to repel Imperial boarders.

The attention to detail on the wall shaping is great, as is the work around the airlock door.

To cap it all, CozzD has gone to town with some special effects for the boarding sequence. Check out the Stormtroopers bursting through the door…

Flee this encounter? Yes please

Karf Oolhu proves once again he’s the master of combining random parts to create models that manage to be somehow both funny and sinister. This peculiar skeletal figure lurches from the darkness, tentacles and wings poking out of its robe, an obsidian dagger strapped at its waist. Karf says we need to submit to it. Personally I’m going to run away instead.
