What happened when Homer quit the nuclear plant? Dvd reckons he set up his own donut stall. This is a lovely little build, and a refreshing change from people using the Simpsons minifigs just to recreate scenes from the show.
The model has an interior with a cash register and donut display. Sweet. I do wonder if Homer can resist the merchandise though…
Beware! Jeff Cross‘ brick-built Godzilla is coming to stomp all over your hometown. The big beastie himself is well-executed, but it’s the pulse effect created by a simple stack of trans blue 2×2 round pieces which makes this model really stand out. I can hear the sound effects in my head!
Now I want to see the big guy duking it out with Mothra over a microscale Tokyo. Do it Jeff. Do it.
A fresh take on the speederbike with these Arctic-themed creations from Ted Andes. These little guys have a cracking color-scheme and functional-looking greebley bits. I want to scoot these guys around my desk at work and make swooshing noises.
And if flying speederbikes aren’t cool enough for you then why not try them out in ski mode?
Whilst we all love a spaceship or a castle, sometimes LEGO building is at its very best when it’s used for scale modelling. This fabulous Volkswagen delivery truck in ESSO livery from Andrea Lattanzio is a great example. The shaping on this is excellent and I love the canvas over the truck bed.
The killer detail on this model has to be the stitching around the unrolled canvas. Brilliant stuff.
Chris Maddison has built a marvellous recreation of one of the greatest/stupidest toy fads of all time — the Pet Rock. The rock and straw are nice, but just take a long hard look at that brick-built cardboard box. Stunning.
Aaron Fiskum brings us a Hiigaran Destroyer from the Homeworld universe. This is a lovely example of what’s called a SHIP in the LEGO spacer community — a “Supremely Huge Investment in Parts”, a spaceship model which usually exceeds 100 studs in length.
Aside from the impressive scale, it’s the lines and details of this model which make it interesting. I’m particularly impressed with that brick-built winged insignia and the gun turrets. And if the shaping around the bow isn’t enough awesomeness for you, check out the stern. Beautiful stuff.
You wait ages for some epic brick creations based in Roman times, and then two come along at once. Just after we feature the enormous LEGO Temple of Minerva, here’s an excellent model by Mihai Marius Mihu.
The landscaping on display here is really nice, with some good brickwork for cobblestones, and a scattering of textured bricks to break up some of the walls. The central trio of statues also looks great. But what makes the model is the splash of red and gold in the architecture — a beautiful addition which makes the temple buildings look fantastic.
Following up from the fantastic LEGO Duckburg scene we featured previously, here’s a chance to see everyone’s favorite Disney duck in his other lesser known guise: Donald Duck, Mech Pilot. Japanese builder Moko has built a cracking duck robot with brilliantly goofy-looking (if you’ll excuse the pun) feet and beak. But the killer detail has to be that horn…
And if you liked Mecha-Donald, then you’re going to LOVE this epic face-off…
What’s not to love about this giant crossbow siege engine from sanellukovic? We’ve got great landscaping creating a believable patch of terrain, and there are figures and assorted equipment providing a genuine sense of military activity. Then, to top it all, check out the fantastic medieval contraption which genuinely looks like it’s straining at the leash to fling a massive spear at somebody.
You can almost hear the enormous SPOING! this thing would make when fired. I wouldn’t want to be on the other end of this when it was used in anger.
Fabulous microscale F1 cars on show from BrickMonkey. Really nice close-up photography makes these models pop on their starting grid, and the use of the silver hub wheels and grille slopes adds some lovely depth of texture. But the killer parts usage? That upside-down handle piece as a rear spoiler. Excellent work.
Patrick B has created a beautiful village scene, vaguely reminiscent of the architecture of Skyrim. It looks like the perfect place to settle down and raise a little tribe of Nords. There’s a real sense of a living town here, created in no small part by the angled buildings and irregular stone paving. The landscaping provides an interesting base for the model, and the whole thing is nicely broken up with the patches of horticulture — check out the wheat on the right and the little garden on the left.

Not content with wowing us with his LEGO versions of Discworld characters, Eero Okkonen recently knocked us sideways with this excellent Samurai figure. The helmet armor’s “face” is particularly good, as is that awesome bird device on the chest. Magic stuff — now I want to see an opponent built for an epic shogun showdown.
