Evil Queen disguised as the Old Hag to see Snow White

“All alone my pet?”

As a kid the Old Hag scared me a lot, still does to this day, but this delightful rendition of the Old Hag from Snow White by Millie McKenzie (Leda Kat) is amazingly cute and adorable:

Snow White - Old Hag

The Old Hag is the fantastic centerpiece to the build, but I really like how she framed the build and all the details in the window, the broom and the chair.

Turtle Insanity

The LEGO Group and Eurobricks have teamed up to help celebrate the release of Pete Reid’s Exo Suit with a  Turtle building contest.

I decided to take my own stab at building some turtles, creating an adorable little turtle facing off with turtle inspired Exo-Suit.

Turtle Insanity Contest!

Hopefully we will see a whole lot more  fun Turtle creations this month.

Friday Night Fights – Concept Art Ships

Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another round of Friday Night Fights. Tonight we dive into the world of Concept Art turned into LEGO. A lot of builders will use reference photos of cars and buildings to build their models. There’s a small subset of sci-fi builders which will use Concept Art as a basis of their creations. Let’s go to the tale of the tape.

In the white corner, we have Alexander (Malydilnar) who used this concept as inspiration for his Talon fighter:

In the blue corner, we have Jake who used used this concept as inspiration for his ship:
Glaive

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding, by way of comment, which ship is a cooler Concept Art turned LEGO. On the last edition of Friday Night Fights, Exo Suits, Ilya won a close 3-2 with his BAR Exo Suit. Tune in next week for another action packed edition of Friday Night Fights!

The Princess Bride recreated in LEGO by team of builders at Brickworld

While VirtuaLUG is currently the undisputed king of collabs at Brickworld, that may change soon with this rising crop of young builders…

At Brickworld 2014, the so called “ChiLUG+ImpLUG+Friends” group unveiled their Princess Bride Collaborative build, based on the classic 1987 movie. This group consisted of: Philip Bernston, Daniel Church, Casey McCoy , Ben M Merrill, Lee Muzzy, Matthew Oh, Max Pointner, Ian Spacek, and Paul Vermeesch.

As always our friends at Beyond the Brick have a great video highlight of this layout:

Ogre Encampment

ZUG ZUG!
Inspired from the Warcraft video games, Ilia (Combee) has created this wonderful little ogre camp:

He’s done a fantastic job of capturing the visual style in the game, not an easy feat given the round nature of the tower and hut.

Forestry Crane Truck

Toronto got hit pretty bad last year with an ice storm and destroyed a lot of Toronto’s tree cover, which took weeks to clean up all the poor trees. The only cool part was I got to see a lot of the Toronto Forestry trucks rolling around, which Isaac Mazer (Ricecracker.) was able to recreate with stunning accuracy:

Crane Truck

This Freightliner 108SD truck is operated by the City of Toronto’s Department of Forestry, and Isaac has been able to recreate the truck’s distinctive hood – in minifig scale – by shaping an official LEGO eraser!

This truck also has a functional truck bed to dump out trees and a knuckle-boom crane to pick up trees:

Homer’s The Odyssey – Ὀδύσσεια

Those lucky enough to go to Brickworld Chicago this year were treated to VirtuaLUG‘s story time with their incredible 300 square foot retelling of Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey.

This amazing collaborative layout tells the story of the Greek hero Odysseus and his 10 year adventure home after the battle of Troy. Feel free to take the video tour of this massive Layout, courtesy of our friends at Beyond the Brick:

VirtuaLUG of course is the mega-group that brought us Lord of the Rings (2011), Alice in Wonderland (2012) and The Wizard of Oz (2013). So it came as no surprise that they took home Brickworld’s top prize (and Master Builder to boot!):

In the dark grey corner we have Ilya T(traples) with his B.A.R. Exo Suit:
B.A.R. Exo-Suit Mk II

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding, by way of comment, which of these Exo Suits you would want on your SHIP. Reckless Abandon Starfighter

Even among some of the best Starfighter builders around, Chris Maddison manages to stand out as he puts in this phenomenal entry into the Starfighter Telephone Game:

Reckless Abandon

Combining the styling of the previous Stafighters, Chris takes it to the next level with the amazing use of the light brick inside the Galaxy Squad pod, which gives this already very alien ship that extra exotic look.

Titanfall in World War 2.

War. War never changes, but sometimes it’s reimagined. In this case, Kosmas Santosa has taken the Titanfall video game Mech and placed it back into World War 2 with this chillingly well execute build and backdrop.

Titanfall: World War 2 - Front View

Most people would be extremely satisfied building such an awesome mech, but Kosmas has taken this to entirely new level by adding such a stunningly built background:

Xiphos – a sword in space

Better known for his mechs, Kyle (BermudaFreze) showed up to BrickWorld this this impressive SHIP. Though it’s not the first time Kyle has built a SHIP, his previous one took home best Space Ship at BW2010, and had possibly one of the best Swoosh/PEW PEW PEW pictures taken.

Xiphos

While some may argue that the forward guns are a bit of a cheat to hit the arbitrary 100 stud threshold for a SHIP (Seriously Huge Investment in Parts), I don’t think anyone can argue how great this build is. From the nicely placed cheese wedge built caution stripes, to the fantastic forward slopped angles, to the colour stripes this thing is gorgeous. And don’t forget the light up engines:

Thruster Glow

This was definitely one of my favorite space builds from BrickWorld, and was one that I constantly told people to go see … unfortunately it was set up beside among Kurt Vinnedge‘s builds, and I mistakenly attributed the SHIP to him … sorry! This is a good reminder to fill out your MOC cards! So people will know who built what (and be eligible for awards).

Friday Night Fights – Micro Castles

Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada, USA for another round of Friday Night Fights! After a two week Brickworld hiatus, we’re back in a tiny way! After seeing all the great mega builds, we’re going micro … Let’s go to the tale of the tape.

In the green corner we have Kristi (customBRICKS) with the very classic 4 tower castle:
Once Upon A Time....

In the white corner we have Barton Thinks with Helms Deep:
Micro Middle-Earth: Helm's Deep

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding who’s the cheesier builder by way of comment. On the last edition of Friday Night Fights, Say Cheese, It’s a 3-3 tie – which is appropriate as there was some mischief posting and both builds were actually Grant’s – opps! Tune in next week for another action packed edition of Friday Night Fights!
