Any fan of Mass Effect will no doubt recognize N-11 Ordo‘s rendition of the UT-47 Kodiak Drop Shuttle from the games. By striving for a studless build and using custom stickers, the builder was able to create a high degree of accuracy, albeit at a sacrifice of the model’s sturdiness.
For those who couldn’t make it to Brickworld in Chicago this past weekend, Chris and I shot a video of us walking through the entire exhibit and highlighting some MOCs. I have much respect for Paul Hetherington (Brickbaron) and his highly detailed dioramas that often include elements in motion. This whimsical envisioning of Atlantis features dancing mermaids, moving statues, and a surprise in the giant clam.
A solid day’s work fruited this MOC, and I’m decently satisfied with it to share on the blog. It started as an idea to use the new dark brown treads on a tank mech, but I didn’t have any so I substituted black ones. Seeing as they complement the other colors well and especially the black neck collar, I decided to keep them.

You may have heard of this unofficial Lego museum in LEGO: A Love Story and wondered what the place actually looks like. This video shows a glimpse of the largest private Lego collection in the world.
Escher’s Relativity has been made in Lego multiple times in the theme of space and castle, and now Paul Vermeesch puts a Star Wars twist on it.
Stefan Käsmayer (– 2×4 –) likes his samurai movies, and we like his creations. His second samurai house once again shows how effective grill tiles are for the roofs of such buildings. You can see his first samurai house we blogged last year.
I’m familiar with the custom brick lights by Max Yang (Artifex Creations), but I’m just now aware that he also produces some excellent videos showing brick-by-brick constructions of the newest Lego sets. In my opinion they are more interesting to watch than speed-up builds, which don’t show the techniques or parts used in the sets. Here are two examples; you can see the rest on Youtube.

Duco Brugman (bloei) presents a nightmarish castle perched on top of glowing lava. There is also a video that shows moving features of the creation. One of my favorite parts is the eerie transparent green accent, which balances the overwhelming hot colors.
Here’s a video review of the newly released 21102 Minecraft set, the first CUUSOO product to be released outside of Japan. You can get it starting today for $34.99 on Lego Shop at Home.
Summary: the Minecraft set is a decent buy for a collection of small plates and tiles. It is more geared for display with its detailed texture and modular sections. Even though I am not a Minecraft player, I’m believe that Lego has succeeded in turning the game concept into a product (although my initial sentiments still stand).
This fall, the 2012 Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention will be featuring a section dedicated to Lego where you can see and and display creations. In addition there will be Lego vendors, brickfilm showings, and discussion panels. Click on the poster below for more info.
