I’m not always a fan of steampunk creations, but I love this build by Ted Andes (Ted @ndes). There are a lot of nifty little details on this build, and they’re largely intentional. I especially like the big glass eye, and the glass old style gauges on the side. The builder’s description of the symbiotic relationship with the wind-up cowboy is also a nice touch, and the perfect bit of steampunk absurdity.
Apparently, while I was laid low by the flu this weekend, LEGO went ahead and unveiled the latest in the Star Wars UCS line. They also revealed that, starting with this set, UCS sets will have different and distinct packaging from other sets in the Star Wars line. It looks like they’ve done their best to cram this thing full of play features, which helps justify the hefty price of $300 USD. This latest creation by Karf Oohlu (Cthulhu for World President) really caught my eye this morning. The flying red ball concept is amusing, and reminds me of an anime or two. Add in the addition of hair to the alien minifig, and you’ve really got a winner.
I’m pretty sure that this diorama by Daniel Garcia Rodado (AlterEvo) and (AL13N163NA) is the first I’ve seen inspired by the movie Elysium. Regardless of what you think of the plot or script of the movie, it had some stunning visuals, and some really cool tech. I like how this display is made up of a series of vignettes, disconnected but bound together. I also think that the builders did a great job of representing the exo-skeleton worn by Matt Damon’s character, at minifig scale.
A new LEGO Movie set 70810 MetalBeard’s Seacow has been officially unveiled at ToyFair in New York City. Looks like there’s a different version of MetalBeard in this set from the previous set, which works for me. I must say, I’m pretty excited about this set (though not as much as I am about Benny’s Classic Spaceship, of course).

There’s a giant soft spot in my heart for Calvin and Hobbes, some of my best childhood laughs came from his snowman antics especially. When I saw this creation by Tyler Sky (Bricksky), I had no choice but to share it here. Tyler has perfectly captured the characters, as well as the hilarious snowman antics. If you live in Vancouver, it sounds like you can even see it in person, at the Oakridge Mall Lego store.
I’m a big fan of walking tanks, and this one by Jas Nagra (J5N) is no exception. The details and shaping are great on this one. Sticker usage is great, and this particular minigun design is new to me.
This little diorama from A Plastic Infinity (A Plastic Infinity) really caught my attention. The majority is in monotone, which makes the few elements of color really draw the eye. The transparent blue flowing from the mining bot (which is a brilliant little sphere) catches the eye, while still seeming a bit muted. I, like the sentry bot, was immediately intrigued by the red dot growing nearby.

Like many people in my generation, I loved The Never Ending Story in my youth. Just looking at this build by Carl Merriam (Carlmerriam) brings a smile to my face.
Thomas W Sylon-tw brings us an aircraft befitting the name Pelican. The fat belly of this beast evokes the cavernous beak of the avian namesake, and is perfect for a cargo hauler. Long time readers may recall that I too, have used this name for a Cato craft.
Name aside, this is a cool plane. The fat belly is an interesting and unusual shape. The color blocking is excellent, and the emblem looks great, popping on a field of blue. The engines bring a nice level of detail and grit to balance the smooth simplicity of the fuselage.
Ryan H (eldeem) brings us the household assistant of the future. In addition to being a funny concept, the creation itself is very well built. The color scheme ties together quite nicely, and really suits the idea of a household appliance. These tie in wonderfully with the hub less wheels, which are an awesome detail.
FateHeart tells us that his mecha is holding two heat picks as close combat weapons. Despite the description, I can’t help but imagine this thing stomping around a huge airfield, directing gigantic aircraft. Weapons aside, this is a cool an solid looking creation. I find the white fins on the back to be especially stylish.
