About Dan

Dan Rubin has been an AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) since he became an adult. He joined the larger AFOL community on LUGNET in 2003, and that was also the year in which he attended his first BrickFest. Dan largely builds space MOCs, so it should come as no surprise that he is also the Main Admin of the forums at Classic-Space.com. He is also the creator of the Galactic Inquisition space theme. Dan has been a member of the LEGO Ambassador program since the third cycle of the program. Read more about the program here. You can check out Dan's LEGO creations on Flickr.

Bricks Helping Japan – LEGO Charity Auctions

So far, our auctions have raised over $700! Thanks so much to everyone who has donated creations, and everyone who has bid on them!

Several of our auctions of donated LEGO creations are ending in just a few hours! Remember, all proceeds go to the Red Cross, so please bid liberally, and feel free to spread the word! As a reminder, here’s the full explanation of this charity LEGO auction effort. There’s only one day left to bid on the gigantic Phenix!

Phenix LEGO Giant StarSHIP

Also, don’t forget to check out all the other on-going auctions to help the Red Cross in their efforts to help the victims of the earthquakes and tsunamis in Japan and the Pacific Rim. I listed several new auctions today and yesterday, including some fantastic LEGO creations and several pieces of original LEGO comic art by Greg Hyland! All of the pieces by Greg have been published, whether on FBTB.net, in LEGO BrickMaster Magazine, or Star Wars Insider Magazine.

I can’t link to a photo of the last one, which is a delicious looking set of LEGO Cupcakes!

Bricks Helping Japan – Update

Donations from our readers toward the Bricks Helping Japan charity auction have been pouring in all weekend. I’ve been busy posting new auctions, and the great LEGO models up for auction just keep coming. I want to highlight some of the newest stuff here, including a few awesome creations that you’ve seen here in the past.

phenix
First off, the Phenix. Christophe Corthay has been generous enough to donate this creation that’s over 3 meters long! He says that it incorporates over 30,000 LEGO elements, and cost him over 3000 Euro in Bricklink orders. I certainly hope that our readers will make his donation worth as much to the earthquake and tsunami victims as possible!

While the Phenix is certainly the biggest creation donated so far, there are certainly many others to chose from. Here’s a sampling!

Cardinal Steam Fighter HELP JAPAN: Purchase Sand Bat 7
Probe15 Power Miners podracer: pod front

Keep your eyes peeled, as there are still more donations to be added!

Bricks Helping Japan – LEGO charity auction for earthquake & tsunami relief

At The Brothers Brick, we’ve decided to try to do something to help out the people affected by the recent earthquakes and tsunamis in Japan, but we need your help too.

Help Japan

You may have noticed that all of the advertising banners on the site have been replaced by links to donate to the Red Cross. That’s a start, and we certainly encourage everyone to do so. In addition, though, we’re auctioning off LEGO creations to raise more money for this important cause. If you’d like to contribute a creation to be auctioned off, please use the form on the Creations for Charity website.

If you’re interested in seeing what’s available right now, see the active auctions. More are to come!

M.A.S.K.!

It looks like Alex Schranz (Orion Pax) loved M.A.S.K. as much as I did. It was ones of the many toy lines my parents refused to buy for me as a kid. Alex’s model incorporates many of the play features found in the original toy, as well.

MAK “2rD” – Wüste Kröte

Adrian Florea has managed to sneak away from work long enough to share this excellent creation with us. I’m not sure if it’s based on an actual Maschinen Krieger model, but it certainly fits that style. It’s a tough style to render in the brick, and this is a great job.

Flower power

I must confess to being completely exhausted at the moment. Still, I wanted to post this dropship by Nate Daly. Maybe it’s because it’s in one of my favorite color schemes, or the little pop open flaps on top, or just the heavy and armored feel working for a dropship.

"Hyperion" Class Dropship

Also, check out this starfighter, which I missed in December.

Something Completely Different

A little something cute by Moritz (Nolnet) to balance yesterday’s nightmare clown. It looks like he’s working on a series of these. I dig it, and not just because I’m holding a cute baby while I write this.

Power Minors Pebbles Plow

Ok, so maybe I have cuteness on the brain…

Clowns are the Stuff of Nightmares

Ezra B. has shared this nightmare, and now I pass it along. Sleep well tonight…

LAB 002 FULCRUM

We don’t often see mecha like this one by Ryuhei Kawai (kwi-chang). It has a large chunky flavor, and barely a smooth surface in sight. The various bristles all seem to have a purpose (grenade launchers, radar, ammo, etc.) and it manages to work. The addition of pistons on the back of the legs, as well as vents on back, add to a purposeful, frontal assault only, look.

A Giant Dwarf

Sven Junga just posted this amazing sculpture on flickr. Other photos reveal a fascinating scene of the statue being hauled across a bridge over a river of blood.
