BrickNerdTV’s Fourth Episode is now live!

Our friend, Tommy Williamson, is doing great things over at BrickNerd, not the least of which are his News and Reviews Videos. Stop reading this and go watch the video…it’s good. Also there is the added bonus [SPOILER ALERT!] of hearing Iain Heath (Ochre_Jelly) recite Ewok poetry.

Sunday Sci-Fi Roundup

Pop a top, my friend” and enjoy your visual buzz before yet another weekend slips by and it’s back to the spice mines of Kessel, smashed into…well…who know’s what? . Tonight’s topic is science fiction and it’s many splendid forms brought to you by builders who run the gamut from obscure to famous.

We begin our journey through the ABS cosmos with in the good ship U-740 from TBB regular F@bz.

U-740 (1)

Then we slip momentarily into digital space for a run-in with the Crusader DropShip by Blackout (Kylie).

Crusader DropShip.

Eventually we have to make planetfall to continue our explorations and we’ll be employing this trio of Alien Moonstalkers by onosendai2600.

So I heard you like Alien Moonstalkers?

Of course we’re bound to encounter some alien creatures along the way, like this Blue Bloodworm by A Plastic Infinity.

(Blue) Bloodworm

Even a weekend exploration of the Sci-Fi genre would not be complete without a model inspired by a film, and filling that role to perfection is the Elysium inspired ADS-64 JACKRABBIT by ∞CaptainInfinity∞.

Description

We might need something to step on that Blue Bloodworm so we’ll keep this untitled mecha handy from Freedom01.

Our journey has been arduous, and we find ourselves in rough shape and in desperate need of a little…enhancement, courtesy of spook and his League of Privateers “Iron Warmonger”.

League of Privateers "Iron Warmonger"

let’s end this thing with a bang from M.R. Yoder who didn’t stop building until he had an entire fleet.

Time has not been kind

Time is a funny thing: it both heals and utterly destroys. It can take away the crushing despair of a broken heart, a distant family, and right wrongs. It can carve landscapes, and level mountains. That’s pretty powerful stuff.

Built for the Castle display at Brickcon, this statue’s original purpose is lost–along with a limb, a hand, and the head has fallen to the dust. Further damage has resulted from the ongoing hostilities between the Boars and Bulls.

In all seriousness, I’ve been wanting to build a large minifigure for a while, and of course when I build it’s apparently ruined and weather-worn. And a bonus: this should survive the journey from Orlando to Seattle relatively intact!

You can see more photos in my gallery!

AH-64 Apache

Tyler Clites (Legohaulic) has taken flight with this lovely piece of airborne eye-candy. The cockpit is especailly well-done but the whole thing exudes sleekness.

What a Drag!

Dragster, that is. This eye-popping VW Bus Dragster is a beaut. I love the color-blocking and the overall shape is awesome. The fact that it opens up to access the engine is frosting on the cake. We always expect great things from Lino (Lino M) and he has not let us down here. Rock on, Lino!

88′ Seoul Olympic Stadium

The Games of the XXIV Olympiad were hosted in Seoul, South Korea from 17 September to 2 October back in 1988 and the principle stadium has been recreated in microscale by Yo-Sub Joo (ysomt). 8,391 athletes from 160 nations participated in the games and in case you’re wondering how the home team fared; South Korea took home a total of 33 medals including 12 gold!

In the bunker with Jerry.

Trench warfare is today’s topic in military history and our guest lecturer is BeLgIuM ww2 bUiLdeR, who has just posted a fine example of the genre entitled Red Tree bunker All the boilerplate is present and accounted for: radio room, racks, command and control center, searchlight and of course many weapons and soldiers. According to the builder, the bunker system is not modeled after any one specific location, but rather a representative sampling of many locations. My favorite detail is the decapitated tank turret re-purposed as an anti-tank gun emplacement.

Cat+Shark costume+Roomba=Internet

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter that shark week is over. Or that millions of cats everywhere do housework atop a Roomba. What does matter is that the internet loved it and therefore Iain Heath (Ochre Jelly) MUST build it. It’s not like he’s done that before or anything.

And, because no cat video meme build is complete without the video, you can see Roomba-Shark-Cat in action:

While Roomba-Shark-Cat is pretty spot on with the attitude and pose of a cat in a costume, I adore the duck.

This Rally Landrover could go anywhere

Korean fan Myungpyo Kim brings us this awesome Landrover, ready to race in the World Rally Championship and emblazoned with the logo of what everyone knows is the coolest energy company in the world, Octan.

A traveler in a strange land

This purple scene by A Plastic Infinity depicts a traveling alien as he meets another race for the first time. It is full of simple techniques that play off of each other perfectly. I’m really into those aliens. Just four fairly common pieces, yet they look totally new. The landscape is basic terracing, but the color and tiling gives it that alien flair. I think anything more would have distracted the eye from the story that the builder was trying to tell. This is a great example of how a good grasp of fundamental technique works to convey a story or feeling. I love it and I want to see more!

Town Triumphant

South Korea’s Olive Seon, the reigning queen of Town diorama returns to the big blog with a double shot to get your weekend started in the right direction. Both of the following models are untitled and will be presented in a format preferred by the builder; light rock with less talk.

Friday Night Fights (Round 18)

Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another low-blow edition of Friday Night Fights! Tonight’s bout pits traditional vs. digital styles in an all out struggle for supremacy in the ring. Let’s go to the tale of the tape:

Fighting out of the red corner, from The City of Roses…Nathan “The Knife” DeCastro (nate_decastro) and his XV-1011 EL-AHRAIRAH.

XV-1011 EL-AHRAIRAH

And fighting out of the blue corner, from somewhere deep inside the MCP cone, Jackhammer-joeluk66 and his Anubis.

Anubis -4-1

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding the outcome of this pugilistic endeavor by way of comment. On the last edition of Friday Night Fights, Iron Builder Rematch, FNF history was made as the judges called the bout a draw. Maybe a highly acclaimed panel of turbo-nerds really is the best way to decide The Iron Builder, or maybe this was the closest IB competition to date. Tune in next week for another action packed edition of Friday Night Fights!
