I’ve been really, really busy with school recently (and it’s not going to lighten up for a while), so my duties to TBB has suffered. However, the moment I saw this Frog Senate from Flikerite ~Gladius I knew I had to post it. Little frog chairs = win.

Rock on, dbol! Rock on.
I’ve always felt that LEGO vignettes are like haiku (though maybe Bruce might have made that comparison first). Dbol actually combines the two with this great vignette of a gamer playing Guitar Hero with an unimpressed female onlooker:
Rock stars preen and strut
While they shout at the devil
But he’s just a geek.
This isn’t just an amusing vig — it’s got some interesting techniques, like the curtains and the wonderful large-screen TV.
Sweet Vigging goodness!
Sandman minifigs by Shane Larson
The Sandman, by Neil Gaiman was an important comic book series published between 1989 and 1996. Shane Larson has emerged from a yearl-long absence from the hobby to recreate The Endless in minifig form.
And don’t miss Shane’s take on the moment that Percival Lowell thought he had discovered canals on Mars (via the inestimable Klocki):
News: The latest from PodBrix sells out in a day
Speaking of custom LEGO products, artist “Tomi” has been creating various Apple+LEGO products under the PodBrix name for several years. Tomi uses a combination of offical elements and customized pieces to create his artwork. Each new product is released as a limited edition, and seems to get more popular each time — the most recent one sold out in a day! The latest from Tomi is a vignette showing the early days of Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs (cofounders of Apple Computer):
Thanks to readers Paul and Jeremy for the reminder!
I am just going outside and may be some time...
Alan Saunders illustrates the moments after Antarctic explorer Lawrence Oates spoke his famous last words. I love the miniature camp in the background.
No Real Than You Are
Castle 2007, as remixed by Steve Vargo
Steve Vargo wasn’t quite satisfied with the skeleton army faction in the new Castle theme, so he tweaked it. Just a bit. Read Steve’s backstory for this diorama on Builder’s Lounge. Very Lovecraftian, Steve. (Via VignetteBricks.)
A vig that permits itself to be read
I breezed right past this vignette by Alex Eylar until Bruce pointed out an interesting feature on VignetteBricks — the two main characters are the only ones in color:
You can read the full text of “The Man of the Crowd” by Edgar Allen Poe online. (The title is a reference to a German quote that ends the story, “es lasst sich nicht lesen”.)
You still need tea time and golf, even after the apocalypse
Perhaps this post-apocalyptic trend as a whole is somewhat less hilarious now that Brickshelf is back, but that doesn’t change the fact that these two dioramas by Nick Dean are both cool and very funny.
Mini MOC Madness!
Lowlug’s Mini MOC Madness is upon us again! The theme this year is weather, and there are already some great entries. Check out the gallery, and click “Lees meer” to see bigger pictures of each entry. A few of my faves:
(Thanks for the tip, Martin Jaspers! I’d link to your gallery like I usually do, but it won’t exist on August 1, so I’m minimizing future broken links. :( )
EDIT: Sorry about the broken images — I’ll fix them later.
Bidding so long to Brickshelf
FBTB Forums member “Glorious Kyle” wishes Brickshelf a fond farewell. I like how Kyle has turned the Brickshelf logo into tombstones. (Via VignetteBricks.)
