Vignettes are like the haiku of the LEGO world. Usually built on a base 8 studs wide by 8 studs deep, vignettes show a little scene or a moment in time. But like written poetry, there’s plenty of variation on the basic theme.

Justin Vaughn captures the opening lines of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series with a pair of minifigs.

“The Man in Black fled across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed…”

(The post title is a pair of lines from Shakespeare’s King Lear, which inspired the closing line and title of Robert Browning’s poem “Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came,” which in turn inspired Stephen King. Ah, allusion!)

Ley Ward’s vig ain’t big enough for two

The wall and stack of wood are nice touches, as is the mixture of sand green in the otherwise brown and white landscape.

Crossing the finish line in microscale

Shannon Young captures the drama of car racing in a micro vignette featuring some pretty crafty mini racers and a clever crowd mosaic. Tim Goddard respects the planet

Well, at least Kamino, anyway. Tim Goddard recycles two great microscale Star Wars vehicles we hadn’t featured here before into a new vignette showing the intense battle between Jango Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi:

Iconic Star Wars scenes medievalized by Piotr Lewandowski

Castle builder Piotr Lewandowski has recreated several iconic scenes from the Star Wars universe as Castle vignettes.

Here’s “Duel of Mates” (inspired by “Duel of the Fates” between Qui-Gon Gin and Darth Maul in Episode I):

The desert fortress of the Calrissians

In Rocko‘s desert landscape there stands a fortress defended by a band of people known as … (wait for it) … Calrissians:

Not content to take a crack at just one world religion, Rocko takes on at least one more with his trademark irreverence, reminding everyone, “When the Rapture comes, don’t forget your monkey.”

No matter your religious affiliation, you gotta admire the sun, the floating figs, and sense of perspective from the microscale buildings below.

Harrison, aka “Corran101”, recently posted a sweet vignette, depicting Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay as they reach the summit of Mt. Everest. This deceptively simple scene is packed with details. The figs are pretty awesome, but that rope makes this perfect.
