Even if you’re not an Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo gamer yourself, and even if you’ve never played one of the many LEGO games, it’s hard not to appreciate the strange and stunning LEGO creations inspired by video games. Look for lots of LEGO models inspired by Halo, the Legend of Zelda, Gears of War, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and more. Game on!

This LEGO Songbird from BioShock Infinite will tear your bricks apart

I really enjoyed BioShock Infinite a couple months ago, though I’m still not entirely sure what to make of Songbird. Imagine Rigney may not either, but he’s made this monster (friend?) out of LEGO anyway.

Imagine has also included lots of action closer to the floating platform that I’m having trouble calling “ground,” with Booker DeWitt and Elizabeth running away from Songbird while the twins stand by and Vox Populi round the corner.

Thanks for the tip, Jordan!

Massive Lego model of the Normandy SR2 from Mass Effect

Ben Caukins spent the past 7 months constructing the Normandy SR2 from Mass Effect, proving yet again that he’s not afraid to build large curved ships. The ship measures almost 4 feet long with a wingspan of 19 inches. It will be displayed at Brickworld this weekend in Chicago. You can check out work-in-progress pictures on Flickr.

Three, two, one, GO!

This Lego rendition of the classic Super Smash Brothers by Daniel Church brings me back to my middle school days when I played this game. The stage of Peach’s Castle is instantly recognizable and features miniland-scale Nintendo characters by Nick Jensen and Casey McCoy.

R-Types: Saving the best for last.

With nearly 70 entries in the R-Type & Beyond Build Challenge I think it is a safe bet that the month was a huge success. There was a brilliant diversity of designs and scales, yet all entries were totally reminiscent of the R-Type style. However, it appears that a few builders were saving some lovely surprises for the last day…

Curtis Collins builds, in my opinion, the most ‘classic’ looking model of the month, and his spray painted canopy and use of a toy ball commandeered from his son for the Force Pod are just the sort of creative twists we love to see in the Starfighters group.

R-99A Teardrop

Stefan Schindler is no stranger to starfighters with beautiful angles, but his R-Type Ampulex definitely wins this month for coolest colour scheme.

Simone also builds a classic looking R-Type with wonderful lines, but this time in midi-scale.

So thanks to all who participated, it was very great to see such great quality builds throughout the entire month. Keep an eye out at the flickr group for future monthly build challenges.

Atlas & P-Body by eldeeem

Despite heroic contributions from Xbox friends like Tyler, I never quite managed to get all the way through co-op mode in Portal 2. Still, it was really really fun, and I always enjoy seeing LEGO renditions of the paired test subjects Atlas and P-Body. This version by Ryan H. (eldeeem) is at a larger scale that enables him to add plenty of detail and color contrast. I’m rarely a fan of rubber bands as critical structural elements in LEGO models (yes, even in official sets), but by adding them around other bricks, Ryan has softened the corners of several blocky areas rather nicely.

Build your own Lego Angry Birds characters [Instructions]

Max Yang (artifexcreation) created instructional videos with step by step photos on how to build your own Lego Angry Birds characters. The Red Bird is shown below. Check out the other videos and keep an eye out on his YouTube playlist for more to come.

Fatality!

The Iron Builder contest between Chris Maddison (cmaddison) and Bruce Lowell (brucey_wan) is producing some absolute LEGO gems. Chris’ depiction of Sub Zero‘s fatality is particularly timely for Australia, where Mortal Kombat 9 is finally available after a change to the censorship laws.

Lego StarCraft Marine: “GO GO GO!”

Mark Stafford (lego_nabii) has just posted a photo of an awesome model, built by one of his fellow designers at LEGO, Luis Castenada. Luis built an awesome custom Marine from StarCraft. Obviously, the head is not an authentic Lego piece, and a few parts have been painted, but that doesn’t stop this from being amazing. Here’s hoping that LEGO will wrest the license away from Mega, and release some sets like this.

LEGO Breaking Bad The Video Game parody

Ever wondered what it would look like if LEGO made a video game of Breaking Bad? Here’s what Brian Anderson came up with.

Gorgeous Bioshock Infinite City of Skyholm in LEGO

Russian fan Mister Fedin (Fianat) has created this stunning bit of steampunkery, heavily influenced by the much-hyped Bioshock Infinite game which launched just yesterday. This flying city block may have a rather traditional steampunk color-scheme, but Fedin has used it to great effect. I particularly love how this wonderful architectural menagerie includes elements influenced by LEGO’s own modular city buildings, yet with some lovely twists. I also simply must mention the lovely photography and choice of backdrop here: it really makes this model shine. Don’t ever underestimate how much a bit of good photography can improve your model’s presentation.

Lego Starcraft Mutalisk

Ever since the mutalisk buff, in Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm, this Zerg flyer has been massively popular in games. It looks like Mike Nieves (retinence) got the message and made his own to join his Zerg swarm. You can see more photos on Imgur.
