Catching up on my backlog of product news are the advent calendars for 2010. The City Advent Calendar has a focus on miniature toys and includes an almost naked Santa in a shower, lolwut? The Castle Advent Calendar has a nice array of minifigs and selection of castle accessories. I don’t know anything about their availability across different countries, but I hope they’ll be broadly available.

Massive LEGO Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi built from thousands of LEGO bricks
The Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi looks impressive and a fine work of architecture that would be based on something a real landmark, but little would you guess that Tony Sava‘s amazing LEGO cathedral is actually fictional, based on St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and Chartres Cathedral in France.
If one is not impressed enough, what you see on the outside walls simply scratches the surface of what’s inside. Tony designed and built a nave to fit a full congregation for a proper wedding ceremony or weekly mass.
Built intricately with stained-glass windows that are perfect for ambient lighting to flow through, it embraces the very same atmosphere of stepping into an embodiment of a holy sanctuary.
The cathedral is full of detailing that will make your eyes wander in awe, such as a piped organ to fill the halls with heavenly music.
A red-carpeted aisle and a pulpit and accessories like the floor candle holders add to the detailing.
Building with such details is not without its toil. From concept to completion took about 5 months with serious architectural and blueprint planning with layouts and dimensions.
The finished work and time spent is definitely an architectural piece to appreciate and be in awe of.
No sleep ’til...
…Pax Brooklynstyle. This scene by Alex Schranz (Orion Pax) doesn’t need much description (and I’m not even sure what I’d give it). Probably the best forced perspective I’ve seen.
As though that wasn’t enough he also posted some sneakers. As I have a theory that the Beastie Boys are secretly nerds I reckon they’d love these.
Where does he get all those wonderful toys?
Many years ago Mike Psiaki came onto the online LEGO scene and was impressed by El Caracho‘s Batmobile. Now he’s built his own for a new generation of builders to be impressed by.
Lionheart Villa welcomes you.
A year in the making, Marcos Bessa‘s Lionheart Villa is clearly a labor of love and really interesting building techniques. The siding, the curtains in the windows…everything comes together and makes this an absolutely gorgeous creation.
As Marcos points out, he’ll be returning to it later this summer to complete the interior. I can’t wait to see what he’ll do for it!
4×4
Michael Jasper (mijasper) has long had a much deserved reputation as the king of all things tiny. These tiny four-wide Chevys are actually bigger than his usual work and are exceptionally good. Proof that you don’t need to build big to build well.
1935 Duesenberg Phaeton by Ed Diment
Of course, we don’t have to wait for his Intrepid to be completed to see a lovely new LEGO creation by Ed Diment (Lego Monster).
Ed’s 1935 Duesenberg Phaeton sports the classic lines of this early luxury automobile from a bygone era.
The best of nnenn: ReWorld roadtrain
Posted on behalf of Keith Goldman – all words are his.
Nate turned me down when I asked him to join the crew for “Zero Hour on Highway 44”, what a diva….said something about not being inspired to build a car…and then posts this two months later. Instead…I had to go with Dave Shaddix. Think about that for a minute, I asked for nnenn, and I got Shaddix. I’ll never forgive him for that.
Be sure to join us in sharing your own thoughts on Nate’s online eulogy.
Farm machinery by Mdrn~Mrvls
I like the seemingly simple utility of these pieces of farm equipment built by Chris Blessing (Mdrn~Mrvls).
Let yellow deliver for you
A little while back Teik Joon posted a series of creations based on the concept of an extremely eccentric yellow galactic delivery service called GHL. I like the way each odd little vehicle has a specific purpose.
First the SNAIL, which specializes in extremely slow delivery.
And then my favorite, the FLEA, which is an unmanned vehicle designed to use archaic infrastructure.
A corner for a new cafe
At zgreenz‘s Lucky Town’s Book Bar, you’ll find a pleasant place to spend an afternoon. The tiered architecture has room for lots of patio space. On the inside, the details are equally abundant and interesting. Don’t miss out on the guest room, the restaurant, and the spiral staircase.
The Chinese character on the sign means “book.”
Jarek’s Bank Heist has working safe
We’re all about the functionality today. This Prohibition-era bank by Jarek (Jerac) has a lovely facade and cool 30’s car out front:
However, the working brick-built safe is what makes this an amazing LEGO model:
