If you liked Arthur Gugick‘s Anakin-Vader lenticular mosaic, then you’ll love his recent one that depicts Batman and the Joker.

Egos Collide
Zane Houston has done a rather hilarious Super Heroes video for a contest on FBTB.net. I could watch this over and over…I especially like when the Hulk starts whooping Superman’s behind :-D
I also like Zane’s camera rig that he made for the video shoot :D
I am Gotham’s reckoning.
We so rarely feature custom figures on here, and it’s high time to highlight one. Minh Pham creates exceptional custom figures, so the hardest part is actually picking one. The level of detail on this, like everything else in his portfolio, is just stunning.
Gotham’s reckoning indeed.
Mini LEGO Tumbler from Batman
We’ve seen some great LEGO Tumblers here on TBB over the years, but this mini version by Tiler just might be my favorite.
With a great economy of parts and lighting to enhance the angles (black LEGO is especially tough to photograph), Tiler pulls it off wonderfully. He’s also built a batch of great camo versions:
Pictures of 2013 LEGO Superheroes minifigs
FBTB has been providing detailed coverage the Lego news at Comic-Con. One of the big reveals besides the first Hobbit set are the 2013 Lego superheroes minifigs. They include Mister Freeze, Aquaman, White Suit Batman, Bane, Commissioner Gordon, Robin, Scarecrow, Joker, Penguin, Harley Quinn, Spider-Man, Nick Fury, Venom, Nova, Jonah Jameson, Doctor Doom, and Beetle. See pictures of the entire lineup on FBTB’s Flickr photostream.

Superman Mosaic
Dave Ware (BrickWares) just posted this absolutely awesome Superman mosaic. All I can say is WOW!
…and I have to be honest, when I first saw the thumbnail pop up in my flickr contact feed this morning I didn’t click on it because I really didn’t think it was LEGO. Boy am I glad I clicked on it now!

On a Wing and Prayer
A wing, a prayer, and psionic energy are the only things keeping this glider by Jack McKeen (madLEGOman) aloft. Jack built this for a competition on FBTB, to be an aircraft themed to accompany the X-Men character Psylocke. I don’t know much about Psylocke, aside from seeing illustrations, but apparently she has psionic abilities. In keeping with her powers, the wings of the plane are attached by translucent beams of thought. They’re simply lovely to look at.
LEGO Lord of the Rings out + free Hulk minifig & new Kingdoms chess set [News]
The third-quarter LEGO sets are now officially out, led by both the new LEGO Lord of the Rings and Marvel Super Heroes sets. If you buy $50 from the LEGO Shop between now and the end of the month, you’ll get an exclusive Hulk minifig that’s not available in any set, for free. And you’ll get the original Frodo minifig movie poster with any LEGO LOTR order.
Having *ahem* cheated and picked up some of these sets at a local brick-and-mortar store on Sunday, I can attest to the awesomeness of a tiny Gandalf and even tinier Frodo — with suspenders! — in 9469 Gandalf Arrives.
Here’s the list of all LEGO LOTR sets that are out now:
- 9469 Gandalf Arrives:
Comes with Gandalf, Frodo Baggins, and one of the new horses Chris covered in his review of 9471 Uruk-hai Army.
- 9470 Shelob Attacks:
Includes Frodo, Samwise Gamgee, the One Ring, and Gollum.
- 9471 Uruk-hai Army:
With Eomer, Rohirrim archer, four Uruk-hai, and a new horse.
- 9472 Attack on Weathertop:
Has Aragorn, Frodo, Meriadoc Brandybuck, two Ringwraiths, and two of the new horses in black.
- 9473 The Mines of Moria:
I picked this one up locally too, and it’s a pretty fun build that has lots of play features and cool minifigs — Legolas (resulting in the inevitable puns while I built the set, followed by swooning from my wife), Gimli, Boromir, Peregrin Took, two orcs/goblins, and a very large cave troll.
- 9474 The Battle of Helm’s Deep:
The largest set in the theme at $130 and over 1,300 parts, this set comes with Aragorn, Gimli, Haldir, King Théoden, and four Uruk-hai (including the torch-wielding berserker).
- 9476 The Orc Forge:
This set is exclusive to one of the big-box retailers if you don’t get it directly from LEGO, and has Lurtz, two orcs/goblins, and another Uruk-hai.
Here’s a closer look at Helm’s Deep:
Finally, just when you thought the current LEGO Castle theme was (mostly) dead, LEGO has just released a new 853373 LEGO Kingdoms Chess Set.

Amazing Avengers Props by Ken Robichaud
Today might be a witty day for a Star Wars celebration, but it also happens to be the day The Avengers film is released. And with as much excitement as the rest of us, but a with great deal more effort and skill, Ken Robichaud (aka buriedbybricks) is showing his enthusiasm for Marvel’s latest film. Ken has broken out his Lego to create some astounding life-sized props for the Avengers. I actually spent a moment looking at Hawkeye’s bow, and trying to figure out why it was in the “Lego” group on flickr, before I zoomed in and realized that it was, in fact, entirely Lego. And Ken’s other props are no less magnificent.
Green Goblin’s explosive rampage
Thorsten (Xenomurphy) captures the action from an explosive battle between Spider Man and the Green Goblin. What may be more impressive is the construction of the building, which in addition to the graffiti on both sides, also features tiles used in place of plates to create the texture of a real brick wall. Visit MOCpages for close up views and the technique for the brick wall.
LEGO Marvel Superheroes sets now available [News]
If I learned nothing else at Emerald City Comicon last weekend (post to follow shortly), it’s that I’m much more of a Marvel fan than a DC fan. So I’m a lot more excited by the official release today of the LEGO Marvel sets than I was about the DC sets a few months back.
Wolverine is looking pretty awesome with his claws and bike, but Captain America is who I’m happiest to see in LEGO minifig form:
Each set includes a unique combination of minifigs that I’m sure was designed to encourage collectors to buy them all:
- Captain America’s” Avenging Cycle:
Includes Captain America and a couple guys who must be from the upcoming movie (or a comic book I haven’t read)
- Wolverine’s” Chopper Showdown:
Includes Wolverine, Magneto, and Deadpool.
- Loki’s” Cosmic Cube Escape:
Includes Iron Man, Loki, and Hawkeye.
- Hulk’s” Helicarrier Breakout:
Includes Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, and Loki.
- Quinjet Aerial Battle:
Includes Thor, Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson, Loki, and one of those “foot soldier” dudes.

In other good news, TBB readers in the UK and Canada can now help support the site by clicking through from TBB when buying LEGO from the LEGO Shop online. I’ll set up the ads on the left to link differently depending on where you are shortly, but in the meantime, you can use the banners below (apologies for the visual repetition — it hurts my eyes, too):
