There are so many things I want to say about this, but mostly, I’m just in awe. This four-section creation by Rook just has so much gorgeous detail.
I’ll start with the obvious: the four parts interlock to create either a tower or fortress, and changes the dynamics for each mode. Then there’s the bone-tree, the “giant” chess set, and the detailing on the towers.
I can’t pick a favorite detail on this. Just take a look and see for yourself!

Frederic (Shamisenfred) has a fairly unusual take on LEGO spaceships for his Andromedan Empire series. His latest ‘Chimere’ prototype fits the series perfectly with the mixture of heavy curves and nautical shapes.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of human space flight, as we celebrate Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin‘s historic orbit on April 12, 1961. This year also marks the start of a new but attenuated space age — one without NASA’s Space Shuttle program. In a sense, humanity stands at a fork in the road of our collective existence. Do we fold back in on ourselves and continue eking out a day-to-day existence on a planet with fewer and fewer resources, or do we adapt to our changing world and find new ways of living — both here at home and possibly beyond?
These are serious questions with philosophical, scientific, and political import. But they’re also pretty cool inspiration for building with LEGO! The collaborative display for readers of The Brothers Brick at BrickCon 2011 later this year is titled Numereji 2421.
For hundreds of years humans traveled through space like locusts, jumping from one planet to the next as they exhausted each home in turn. An outbound emigrant ship suffered a navigational and power failure that led to crash landing on Numereji, a terrestrial planet with a breathable atmosphere. Although the colonists crashed in an arid part of the planet, there may be a broad variety of environments beyond the horizon.
They settled into their home and built the town of New Howland. They held little hope of response to their distress signal, and for thirty years they survived off the remains of their ship, struggling to live alongside the alien flora and fauna. In time, they built a thriving, sustainable community.
Things changed five years ago when rescuers unexpectedly arrived and tenuous links were established with Outworld communities. Waves of immigrants have begun to arrive, and New Howland has become the main spaceport. Will Numerians follow the old pattern or take the new path blazed by the pioneering crash survivors?
The theme of BrickCon 2011 is “Building a Community.”
Applying this theme to the collaborative display we’ll all build together, in what direction will your contribution take our fragile colony? Will you build a wind farm or a smuggler’s base? A cyber-library or Terran Expeditionary Marines recruiting office? Our future rests in your hands. The choice is yours.
We don’t currently have any particular standards in mind for the display, though we are returning to minifig-scale. The inevitable mix of technologies, terrains, and building styles provides lots of opportunities for a diversity of contributions.

Dutch builder zenn has been tossing out hoverbike variations built around the motorcycle chassis for over a year, but his latest Neo-Classic Space variation has so many lovely details I can’t pass it up.
The fairing over the rear of the bike is some sort of Bionicle piece, and I love the old-style plastic cape over the light on the front.

Sure I could have made these two blog posts but to my eyes these two LEGO models look like they could be from the same universe so I’m indulging my imagination and putting them together.
First is the Fast Attack Vehicle by Kyle Vrieze (bermudafreze) in three variants. The whole design is cleverly built at an angle.
Secondly an older model F-90 ‘Comet’ by Joe and Will Merzlak (Brothers Merz) uses lots of hingeing and angling to give a brutal insect feel. And it’s a truly lovely photo to boot.
The boys at RoninLug and some friends [Andrew Lee (onosendai2600), Fradel Gonzales (Slice151), Brian Heins, Brandon Griffith (icgetaway), Paul Meissner (Legosamurai), Paul Lee (polywen), Chase Lewis ([Vid]), Tory B, Dane Erland (Lord Dane), Cole Martin (zeehelmut), Cole Blaq, Keith Goldman (Hook Monkey), Jeff Cross (Octopunk), Tommy Williamson (GeekyTom), Don Reitz (Don Solo), Jack Marquez (Ewok in Disguise)] are pretty smooth at assembling collaborative displays and this year’s Bricks by the Bay (BBTB) display doesn’t disappoint. An excellent futuristic city. And it shines too.
It’s been a while since I posted many Black Fantasy creations, but that doesn’t mean the theme is dead in my heart. This diorama called Ascension depicts two space marines escaping the infestation pit through an ascending catwalk to the helipad. After making this, I noticed that I’ve used shades of the three primary colors red, yellow, and blue as color accents, which seems like a terrible idea by itself but may have worked in this case.
I must confess to being completely exhausted at the moment. Still, I wanted to post this dropship by Nate Daly. Maybe it’s because it’s in one of my favorite color schemes, or the little pop open flaps on top, or just the heavy and armored feel working for a dropship.

Bart De Dobbelaer, known for his storytelling through vignettes, has unveiled the first scene of another story about a band of misfits trapped in a strange world. Inspired by sci-fi films such as Cube, Alien Resurrection, and Predators, this story promises to be a thrill ride. You can follow it in this gallery.

Carter Baldwin doesn’t seem to believe in straight lines. His NATO F-83 Seraphim is all angles, curves, hooks and beauty. And it even has working landing gear.
