Angus Maclane, famous for couches and Cube-Dudes, went and super-deformed Optimus Prime. I think he’s adorable. If they had only done the Transformers movies this way, it would have been so much better.

“We jumped out of a window!”
What do you get if you combine the Pillsbury dough boy with the Michelin man and the Stay Puft marshmallow man? You probably get BayMax, the robotic sidekick from Disney’s new animated adventure Big Hero 6 (very loosely based on a Marvel comic of the same name). Oregonian builder Cole Edmonson wasted no time in creating a LEGO version of our inflatable friend with his mortal enemy, a soccer ball.
Spoiler alert: He’s Luke’s dad!
For a Star Wars themed building contest over at Imperium Der Steine, German builder Disco86 had to come up with a creation who’s footprint was only 4×4 bricks. Not only did he manage to stay within the letter of the law, but he also managed to recreate one of the most iconic scenes of the entire franchise. Way to think outside the box!
“I wanna stuff some chocolate in my face!”
Inspired by his favorite song from the hugely popular Disney movie Frozen, Ian Spacek recreated this moment from the scene in which Anna sings the movie’s “I want” song – For the First Time in Forever.
Ian recently unveiled this at Brickworld Chicago, where I was lucky enough to see it up close. And fortunately, our pals from Beyond the Brick were there to interview Ian all about the build too. Wanna know how many log bricks it took to make that roof?! Watch and find out…
The Legend of Zorro
TheBrickAvenger captures the dashing masked-outlaw, Zorro, in this diorama featuring gorgeous Spanish architecture. The angled placement of the house and the subtle use of dark orange on the roof and sand green on the ground really enhances the overall appearance.
You killed the car!
Swedish LUG Swebrick recently held its annual “AFOL vs AFOL” building contest. The theme this year was to build any scene from an 80’s movie or TV show featuring a vehicle. First place went to Etzel87 for this perfect choice of moment from the cult movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – a movie where the vehicle is actually the co-star! Some of the other entries were quite fun too.
In the company of dwarves
The first installment of Peter Jackson’s sprawling Hobbit adaptation hit theaters almost two years ago now. Shortly after the premiere, Finnish builder and TBB regular Pate-keetongu decided to build two of the dwarves from the movie. And he just kept going! Now, his grand opus is finally complete. So we present to you, the company of Thorin Oakenshield in LEGO (or as the builder describes it on his blog, the “Hobbitsplosion“).
As breathtaking as the above spread is, it cannot do the individual builds justice. So we encourage you to check out the full album on Flickr, or visit the builder’s blog for lots of close-ups. Each character’s hair, costume and equipment has been accurately captured, making each one instantly recognizable.

A night without day ... a day without night
Castle and fantasy builders certainly like to build big. But most of the large castle dioramas that we showcase are limited to exteriors. So it’s exciting to see someone focus on a large interior instead!
This amazing cathedral interior by Pippo Zane was inspired by the final scenes of the 1985 movie Ladyhawke. And while the cathedral itself is deliberately jazzier than the one in the movie, the characters are all faithfully represented.
There are so many little details to explore in this build. But I particularly love the stuff going on in the balconies, and of course the stained glass windows.

“Ain’t no thing like me, except me!”
Hard to believe it’s only been a year since Chris McVeigh began his charming series of Brick Sketches, which depict various characters from comic books, cartoons and movies with ‘brush strokes’ carved from LEGO. And I think his latest one – Rocket Raccoon from the wildly popular Guardians of the Galaxy – might just be my favorite so far.
And if you like that, you’re sure to enjoy the 25+ other sketches that Chris has accumulated over the past 12 months. No doubt, everyone will have their own particular favorite! No pugs yet, though ;-)
