Tanks and fighter planes, dioramas of World War II battles, dreadnoughts and battleships — LEGO builders have an obvious fascination with the arms and armor of the military-industrial complex. Find all these LEGO weapons of mass destruction right here on The Brothers Brick.

Dark bley war machines

Sure I could have made these two blog posts but to my eyes these two LEGO models look like they could be from the same universe so I’m indulging my imagination and putting them together.

First is the Fast Attack Vehicle by Kyle Vrieze (bermudafreze) in three variants. The whole design is cleverly built at an angle.

Secondly an older model F-90 ‘Comet’ by Joe and Will Merzlak (Brothers Merz) uses lots of hingeing and angling to give a brutal insect feel. And it’s a truly lovely photo to boot.

[April Fools’!] Announcing “World War III” – collaborative display for TBB readers at BrickCon 2011

For our collaborative display at BrickCon this year, we’ve decided to focus more on current events. With disaster in Japan, turmoil in Libya, rising oil prices, and North Korea plotting to take over the world, we decided that the stage is ripe for World War III! That’s right, bring your shattered buildings and loose bricks and pile them in this epic display. Show everyone that the world will end before 2012!

P.S. Don’t forget to bring all your BrickArms.

Beyond the MASK

BOULDER HILL

I think I vaguely remember the TV show M.A.S.K. but you don’t really need to know what Boulder Hill is to know you like the LEGO model. The service station mode is cool enough but Alex Schranz (“Orion Pax”) lets it transform just like the toy.

M.A.S.K.!

It looks like Alex Schranz (Orion Pax) loved M.A.S.K. as much as I did. It was ones of the many toy lines my parents refused to buy for me as a kid. Alex’s model incorporates many of the play features found in the original toy, as well.

MAK “2rD” – Wüste Kröte

Adrian Florea has managed to sneak away from work long enough to share this excellent creation with us. I’m not sure if it’s based on an actual Maschinen Krieger model, but it certainly fits that style. It’s a tough style to render in the brick, and this is a great job.

Flower power

I must confess to being completely exhausted at the moment. Still, I wanted to post this dropship by Nate Daly. Maybe it’s because it’s in one of my favorite color schemes, or the little pop open flaps on top, or just the heavy and armored feel working for a dropship.

Also, check out this starfighter, which I missed in December.

Tonka goes heavy

Fedde’s (Karf Oohlu) Tonka Heavy Assault Truck is far from its tame Brand-name counterpart. This armored vehicle of destruction is jam packed with cannons, missiles, and turrets to clean up a ground army.

LAB 002 FULCRUM

We don’t often see mecha like this one by Ryuhei Kawai (kwi-chang). It has a large chunky flavor, and barely a smooth surface in sight. The various bristles all seem to have a purpose (grenade launchers, radar, ammo, etc.) and it manages to work. The addition of pistons on the back of the legs, as well as vents on back, add to a purposeful, frontal assault only, look.

Seraphim

NATO F-83 Seraphim

Carter Baldwin doesn’t seem to believe in straight lines. His NATO F-83 Seraphim is all angles, curves, hooks and beauty. And it even has working landing gear.

War Machines Strike

Chris Edwards once again demonstrates proper way of controling the action with his latest diorama called War Machines Strike. Using clever building techniques as well as puns, Chris shows us what happens when intelligent combat robots throw down their weapons and go on strike, ha! Check out the full gallery on Flickr.

Spitfire Mk IX

This plane is just gorgeous. Ed Diment (Lego Monster) states that it’s a 1 in 20th scale, and he plans to add more. I can’t wait.

Kwi-chang’s LAB-001 SRAM buggy gets the job done

Ryuhei Kawai (Kwi-chang) recently saw TRON Legacy and was inspired to create this four-wheeled sci-fi buggy as his first LEGO creation of the year.

LAB-001 SRAM

The buggy has four-wheel suspension, and looks like it’ll go just about anywhere.
