We all love a good LEGO Gundam or Macross mecha, but LEGO builders everywhere are also creating excellent models of their own designs. Have a look at them here.

Gundam Kyrios

Adrian Florea (Olog) is not only a great builders, but a diverse one as well. Check out this Gundam model of Gundam Kyrios, posing formidably on in an aerial stance. This work along with some others will be featured at a small exhibition of anime based MOCs at a japanese teahouse in Romania.

Had enough Primal Screaming? Try Primal Bots!

Rong Yiren is working on a nifty series of nomadic, tribal bots. Never one to pass up on a good battle scene, I fell in love with these vicious little brutes.

Tie me kangaroo down, sport

It’s been a while since I built a mecha and it was jolly good fun to get back to joints and posing. Out of all themes I think that mecha tends to have the most post-build appeal.

Bandwagon mayhem

Adrian Florea (Olog) mashed together some of the curretly hot bandwagon themes into an action-packed diorama. Without scrolling down to the answers, what themes do you recognize?

Kwi Chang goes bipedal

Kwi Chang‘s latest mecha has a unique cockpit configuration and an amazing number of missiles, in addition to the chin-mounted chain-gun:

As a side note, low-slung walker-type mecha seem to be more popular among Western builders (inspired by the iconic AT-ST or the MechWarrior games, perhaps), while Japanese builders tend toward the humanoid (most certainly inspired by Gundam and the like). Maybe I’m right, maybe I’m not. What do you think?

Junk Eater mecha

Bipeds are all too common these days, but what’s a Junk Eater? Izzo (Brickshelf) has an idea inspired by the fantastical concept art of Junji Okubo. I’m trying to imagine this thing in black with orange eyes right now.

Micro mechas on the move

Mecha master Soren Roberts presents three teams of mini mechas. I like the concept of the presence of a distinguishable leader among the pack and the armament variations. The colors make me want to relate each set with a specific environment of operation.

Hunchback Assault Mech

While there are many mechas out there, few ever carry a striking feature that I’ll probably remember for the rest of my LEGO career. Check out the ammo rounds on Kidthor‘s Hunchback Assault Mech. The use of a lego string piece to connect the small black Technic pins is simply brilliant, and I’ll bet more builders will be inspired to use this technique.

Iron Gundam

Izzo’s dark toned mechas

Mecha master Izzo‘s recent works take on darker toned colors, which are generally more uncommon than ordinary colors. The darker colors tend to give a more mature appearance to the model, and here they look absolutely splendid.

Norbi Demeter roundup for April 27, 2008

Yes, that’s right, Norbi Demeter (one pic borderline NSFW) gets a roundup post the first time he’s featured here. ;-)

Norbi is a LEGO builder from Romania who just recently started posting his creations to Flickr. It’s not often someone demonstrates such strong skills from the very first photo posted online, but Norbi clearly has talent.

First up, here’s Norbi’s big blue “Alien thingamagig”:

Next, a robot takes a walk in the park:

Finally, a Fuchikoma from Ghost in the Shell:

Can’t wait to see what Norbi will show the world next.

Mini Hellfire Dreadnought

Alex Kahler minimized the Hellfire Dreadnought from Warhammer 40k into a micro vignette at the same time keeping all the defining details, making the model instantly recognizable to fans of the game.
