Party on, Victorian dudes

Serbian builder Milan Sekiz created this fearsome trio of steampunk hardware entitled Steam Party. Individually each piece stands out on its own. But with the addition of some greenery, wreckage and tire tracks, the whole ensemble is definitely greater that the sum of its parts.

I particularly love the tank (aka “Mr. Rust and two smoking barrels”) with it’s earthy color scheme, brick-heavy studs-hidden design, aggressive details, and of course those tracks! Check out Milan’s Flickr stream for lots of hero shots and closeups…

Tom Rex, Space Dinosaur

Adam Dodge shows us that the meteor didn’t annihilate the dinosaurs, it carried them to the stars. This build combines two of my favorite things, to the utter delight of my inner eight year old. I’m looking forward to seeing the new possibilities for remixing dinosaurs with the Jurassic World sets.

Mixed Media

Zi Zy has been consistently churning out fantastic small-scale mecha and creating scenes for them that mix Lego and more traditional model-building elements. The result is an amazing hybrid that imbues the Lego models with an unusual degree of realism.

The cubicle of the future

If you’re gonna operate heavy machinery all day, you might as well be comfortable. And the operator of this Walker Mech by Flickr member nobu_tary has clearly gone to great lengths to trick out his mobile workplace, by adding a sporty bucket seat and a ton of other gear and personal effects, giving this build a great “lived in” feel.

Check out all the angles on this sweet mech to see how many more details you can spot. With all that equipment, it kinda reminds me of that old board game Buckaroo!

Cruising across Antarctica in style

Galaktek has a long-running series of animals piloting mecha, but this penguin themed one might be my favorite so far. Even in robot form this penguin can’t fly, but who cares about that when you can glide along the ice with this level of panache?

Protoman

Mike Nieves’s (retinence) Protoman creation from Megaman is instantly recognizable and can strike an awesome pose. The variety of large curved slopes works out well in a creation of this scale.

Gundam + X-wing = Gundam X?

I’ve seen a lot of mash-ups, but this is the first time I’ve seen a Gundam crossed with a Star Wars ship. This hybrid by Kevin Ryhal (MDSWIM) looks useful to the rebel resistance, but I’m not sure how it can bring down the Death Star.

Two Amputees, a Pig and a Baguette

Probably the biggest hurdle when it comes to creating Maschinen Krieger (Ma.K) inspired builds with LEGO is the loss of the fine details. The amount of realism that real Ma.K modellers put in to their creations are second to none. But LEGO is a bit trickier medium to achieve gritty realism in. However, Andy Baumgart (D-Town Cracka) proves once again that going to a larger scale makes that much easier to achieve it.

Not only is this build incredibly detailed, the presentation and inclusion of the little girls just screams Ma.K. Much of the vibe of Maschinen Krieger dioramas is the juxtaposition of mechanical death machines and innocence.

Adorable chibi Gundam

Moko delivers another sweet build with this adorable little Gundam. He’s just so cute, I couldn’t resist posting him. Plus he was pointing that big gun at my head.

Ma.K. gets Bioshocked

Leave it to Pascal (Pasukaru76) to see Bioshock when someone says Ma.K. (a popular mecha style with a unique visual characteristics). This Big-Daddy inspired mech is uuber cool, and is even accompanied by a miniature mechanized Little Sister.

The littlest whaler hunting the littlest whales

Dane gives us a sweet triple play of great builds, with a bleak monochrome style perfectly suited to a dreary rainy Monday.

The unexpected star of the show is this twistedly twee whaling ship, chasing the last of the pygmy whales across the cold ocean.

On the other end of the grey spectrum is this sleek mech, a study in clean design and smooth lines, every inch exuding brutal intent.

I’m a lumberjack and I’m ok...

Military technology often gets repurposed in peace time, so it makes perfect sense that in the future this might happen to Mecha or Exo-suits. A concept that is brilliantly envisioned by Dave Kaleta in the Lumberjack 4000, a terrifying tree killing machine:

This build is loaded with play features for all kinds of arboreal mayhem, including chainsaws, axes, and climbing spurs. But I really love the through-the-chest wood chipper and Buffalo Plaid color scheme! And the choice of a female operator (Lumberjill?) is a nice touch.
