Getting in the spirit of Halloween
With Halloween approaching, Douglas Hill creates a chilling mosaic that uses so many shades of colors that I lost my head trying to keep track of them all. Can you identify all the brick colors that were used? I’ll bet it ain’t easy.

10199 Winter Toy Shop now available from the LEGO Shop [News]
With much relief, I’m pleased to announce that 10199 Winter Toy Shop is now available from the LEGO Shop online.
For $60, you get 7 minifigs and 815 pieces. The set also has some great microscale detailing inside the shop.
No luck yet on 6299 LEGO Pirates Advent Calendar, but rest assured we’ll be talking to the team from LEGO about this at BrickCon this weekend.
Dear LEGO: We want 6299 LEGO Pirates Advent Calendar!
It’s that time of the year again, LEGO fans. In what I hope does not become an annual tradition, we’ve received confirmation from LEGO that this year’s non-City advent calendar, 6299 LEGO Pirates Advent Calendar, will not be made available in the United States.
The success of our campaign to get 7979 Castle Advent Calendar last year was the result of both luck (a pallet of sets that got shipped to the US distribution center accidentally) and persistent community activism (here on TBB and on sites like Classic Castle).
Though we can’t guarantee luck again, we can certainly do our part to see what effect LEGO fan community activism can have this time around. Leave a comment here on this post expressing your support and we’ll pass your sentiments along to LEGO through our resident LEGO Ambassador.
And last but not least: Yarrr!!!

10199 LEGO Creator Christmas set revealed on Amazon Japan [News]
Amazon.co.jp has revealed details about the upcoming 10199 LEGO Creator Christmas set, due out later this year. The picture isn’t perfect, but good enough for discussion, I think.
Due to ship in Japan on October 25, 2009, the set will apparently retail for 12,600 yen. Comparing the prices of other LEGO sets between yen and USD, my guess is that this will be a $60 set (assuming it’s available, but we LEGO fans can always make that happen).

Couple gets engaged in Miniland Las Vegas at LEGOLAND [News]
Troy Cobb worked with the model builders at LEGOLAND California to arrange a special sign on the Eiffel Tower (part of the Miniland Las Vegas display), asking his girlfriend Lacey Williams if she’d marry him.
Troy and Lacey are both LEGO fans who took a special trip to LEGOLAND California to celebrate Valentine’s Day and Lacey’s birthday. Naturally, Lacey said yes, and they plan to have LEGO cake-toppers at their wedding.

Mark wishes us all a happy Valentine’s Day
While I may not be keen on Valentine’s Day as a holiday, I can’t fault Mark Neuman for the way he expresses his Valentine’s wishes. He’s built an adorable mecha/animal robot to offer up a cupcake. I love the expressiveness of the face he’s achieved, and the feet are just adorable. Since I’m 3000 miles away from Mark, I can’t eat the cupcake, so I wish it was made of LEGO too.

New Jersey kids build giant Hanukkah menorah from LEGO
New Jersey newspaper Asbury Park Press reports that members of the Chabad Jewish Center in Toms River, NJ built an enormous LEGO menorah for the beginning of Hanukkah this past Sunday:
Rabbi Moshe Gourarie said, “A lot of darkness can be dispelled by a little light. What this world really needs, more than anything, is light, positivity and goodness.”
