It’s all about the cake

Milan Sekiz has mixed up all the ingredients required for a perfect little bakery. This scene is packed with detail for such a tight footprint, and the color choices represent a refreshing change from a lot of City building.

Cakes are obviously the main reason to visit any bakery, and Milan’s display counter doesn’t disappoint. Check out the tempting selection on show (and don’t miss the detail of the ventilation slits in the refrigeration units under the counter — nice).

And then through in the back-of-house, Milan has made great use of “brick bricks” and kitchen unit pieces to create a smart prep area. I particularly like the unbaked croissants sitting to the left. However, unless there’s another oven lurking off-scene somewhere, I’m not convinced this store has quite the baking capacity it requires — the visible oven provision seems somewhat lacking. But kitchen efficiency concerns aside, this is a wonderful little model.

Sweet, delicious LEGO cherry pie

My grandmother was quite the baker. Her farm produced tons of fresh fruit, and fruit pies were a particular specialty. There were never leftovers. Her crust, in particular, was divine. You know what her secret was?

She followed the recipe.

W. Navarre clearly did not follow a recipe, and this pie is good enough to eat. I particularly love the translucent red for the delicious cherry filling. The cross-hatch pie crust on top is perfect, and looks appropriately tender and sinking into the pie, just like it should be. The build feels like it just came fresh from the oven, which can be a tricky thing to convey.

Egg on toast

There’s that moment in Hayao Miyazaki’s Castle in the Sky when Pazu shares the simplest of meals with Sheeta: A single piece of toast with a fried egg. This might also be the simplest LEGO food sculpture by nobu_tary that we’ve featured, but it’s no less excellent with its simplicity. The toast itself uses some interesting studs-out building techniques in multiple colors, and the egg itself has multiple levels with an orange yolk — not merely a flat white disc with a yellow radar dish stuck onto it. Now I’m hungry…

Fresh cracked crab is what’s for dinner

I love seafood, and crab in particular. Here in the Pacific Northwest, one of the best ways to have it is to get fresh dungeness crab and crack it yourself, so this typhoon shelter crab dish by LEGO 7, made with a fresh whole crab, feels right at home and makes me very hungry. The builder even includes some tools of the trade, useful for scavenging every last bit of tasty meat from the shell.

How to make LEGO mashed potatoes

Mashed potatoes are awfully tasty, aren’t they? Or diced, fried potatoes. Or baked potatoes. Really, potatoes any way I could have them are awfully tasty. That doesn’t seem to be good news for our friend on the cutting board, does it?

TBB staple Barney Main gives us a delightful scene, preparing potatoes for their delicious end. Though I don’t think our appreciation is shared by the subject on the cutting board, if those large eyes and worried face are any indicator.

While you ponder the potato’s fate, check out the other details: the skin peeler, the book, the knife, and the gas stove top. The potato masher is particularly ingenious!

LEGO hamburgers this good are rare

We’ve featured some of nobu_tary‘s fabulous LEGO recreations of food in the past, and here’s another excellent meal-based model—a burger with an egg topping.

The individual elements of the build are spot-on, and the overall presentation is excellent. Just looking at the image is making me hungry. This burger definitely came with a side of awesomesauce.

Eat fresh!

These larger-than-life sculptures by Bruce Lowell look more like pixelated photos than LEGO creations. Seriously, just squint your eyes a bit and these lunchtime treats look just like the real thing! I particularly love how Bruce captured the Subway and Lay’s logos perfectly, even on three-dimensional surfaces. And while it normally bothers me to see an underlying color showing through to a top layer of a different color, allowing the white layer to show through on the stair-stepped portion of the raw red onions is simply genius!

It’s always a good time for Pizza

Pizza is the prime example of comfort food (even brick-built pizza), and there’s no better place to spend time with friends than a Pizza place, and Gzu Bricks just recreated such a place in LEGO.

It is always fun to watch a creative scene, and this feels like a place where minifigs go after a long day of play to share a pizza. Meta Fact of the Day: they play with smaller LEGO sets. Check out the small boxes near the cake.

Build your cake and eat it too

Sometimes LEGO looks good enough to eat, and this is certainly the case with Sad Brick‘s Cranberry Black Forest cake. This plastic take on the classic German desert appears to have the key ingredients of chocolate sponge, cream, kirsch, more cream and a black cherry on top. A puzzle for you: do you know which part has been used to depict the cherry?

The best part is that this cake is definitely fat-free.

Sometimes it’s OK to play with your food

Builder nobu_tary has made me want to eat some LEGO. I might choke during this post, but it will be worth it because this looks amazing and delicious, and is one heck of a build:

Look at the tasty details: the toppings are placed perfectly, just random enough to resemble the real mess of a pizza; the red bricks layered below the cheese make for a great sauce effect; the crust looks great with different shades of brown; and the dripping cheese was a great detail. But most amazingly he built this piece in the most dynamic pose a slice of pizza can have, when you have just picked it up. Now I’m craving for a slice of delicious cheesy goodness even more.

Space Grinder 2900

Just a short time ago The Brothers Brick hosted a rather tasty space inspired contest and the world was flooded with amazing futuristic eateries. While driving in too late for that contest, the Space Grinder 2900 ECO by Rat Dude has arrived from a future where food itself is a lot less appetizing than it is now. With a simple two point operating system, the Space Grinder 2900 ECO truly embodies the phrase “food on the go”.

A Japanese bento box made with love

While I certainly admired the delicious-looking tempura shrimp and rice bowl by nobu_tary I highlighted a week or so ago, I’m vegetarian and prefer some lovely vegetables with my rice — no homemade Japanese meal feels complete without some umeboshi, or pickled plums. I think I’d enjoy this gorgeous LEGO bento box a bit more, with black sesame seeds and an umeboshi on the rice, with broccoli and a variety of small side dishes packed with care into a lacquer box.
