Contests and build challenges are often a great way to get creative juices flowing. Check out our coverage of new contests here, and congratulate the winners of contests that have finished.

Terror in Tabletown contest [News]

The last couple of months of the year really are the “contest season” in the LEGO fan community. Klocki is trying out a Contests page to capture many of the contests going on at the moment. We’ll try to feature as many as we can get to, but I’m not making any promises. ;-)

Andrew “Doctor Sinister” Summersgill from Tabletown.co.uk is hosting “Terror in Tabletown”, with a couple really cool categories.

With prizes from UK BrickArms reseller Minifigforlife.com, the two categories are “Best Use of LEGO Elements” and “Most Novel Use of BrickArms Weapons.”

Most of us limit our use of BrickArms to their “intended” use as minifig accessories, so that second category has my interest piqued.

Contests happening all over the place!

Given the potential for loot, I thought I’d pass on a couple of contests going on right now.

Klocki and zczuba.pl are hosting a sports-themed contest. Head on over to Klocki to read the details and see examples, but here’s some inspiration:

(News via VignetteBricks; “Red Card” by Nelson Yrizarry, currently going through brick-withdrawal. We feel your pain.)

Also via VignetteBricks, LEGO Europe just concluded a raffle for the gold-chrome C-3PO minifig otherwise only available randomly in sets here in the United States. The contest deadline was June 25, but you can see all of the entries on 1000steine.de. In my personal favorite, a rather enhanced R2-D2 steals the scene — as usual:

The final due date for the Classic-Space.com Moon Rover Contest is this Saturday, June 30th. You can see a list of all the great entries so far in this thread. Many of the entries feature wonderfully inventive wheels:

I know there are more contests out there, so leave a comment if I’ve missed something.

Blocklog. Meh.

As I explained back in September, I originally named this blog without giving much thought to the proper nomenclature for LEGO elements, or bricks. “Brickblog” might have been a better choice, and as the vision for this blog has evolved, turning into a bit of a LEGO Boing Boing, “Brick Brick” might have been an even better choice. Unfortunately, since I first started blogging last July, both of those good ideas have been snatched up by other, smarter LEGO bloggers (BrickBlog and Brick Brick).

Now that this blog is no longer just mine, I’ve removed “Dunechaser’s” from the banner, leaving just “Blocklog.” Meh.

So, I’m trying to come up with a new name for the-LEGO-blog-formerly-known-as-Dunechaser’s-Blocklog. What say, you, loyal readers? Post your ideas as comments here, send me an e-mail, or discuss your ideas in this thread over on Classic-Castle Forums. If Josh and I like and use your idea, I’ll send you a prize! You have until next Monday at midnight (PST or GMT-8) (rather, Tuesday morning at midnight), or until Josh and I have enough ideas to pick from.

Okay, go!

Fine print: I haven’t decided on a prize yet. It’ll be LEGO of some sort. You might like it, you might not. Since this is the Internet, I’m afraid I’m going to restrict this to adults. Sorry kids and teenagers. Feel free to vent your frustration at my (and life’s) unfairness. I understand.
