Castle has the Blues

Matthew Hurt just posted this nifty island castle. As it is a response to the Primary Color Challenge, on Classic Castle, it has lots of blue. Surprisingly, that gives it a rather elegant flair. I’m liking it.

Contest: GHL building contest

The good people at GHL are running a contest:

To kick off our marketing and promotion efforts here in the Dominion planet of “Earth”, we at Galactic Handling and Logistics have decided to hold a contest, since the initial brain-scans and surveys have concluded that Terrans are a competitive bunch and best motivated by “free stuff”.

There are two Pro flickr accounts up for grabs and contest closes on the 31st August 2010.

LEGO Shop holiday cover catalog contest

Contest Overview:
Develop your new LEGO creation using a maximum of 100 LEGO bricks and/or elements. Then, submit a photo or image of your creation along with a brief description of your creation (50 words or fewer). You may build your creation using physical bricks and elements or you may develop your creation virtually, using LEGO® Design by ME. One Grand Prize winner will be determined in each of the four age categories: ages 5-8, ages 9-12, ages 13-15 and ages 16 and older.

The Prizes:
Winner’s creation will be featured in the Late Holiday 2010 edition of the LEGO® Shop-at-Home Catalog issued in November. In addition, winner will receive a $100 LEGO® Gift Card (redeemable at any LEGO® Store, online at shop.LEGO.com, or through the LEGO® Shop-at-Home Catalog), a $50 LEGO® Design by ME gift card, a Sponsor-specified LEGO® set and a LEGO® Certificate of Achievement. (The approximate retail value of each Grand Prize is $200). Sponsor will select, at its sole discretion, one of the winning creations to be featured on the cover of the catalog. There is no monetary value associated with winner’s submission being featured in the catalog or on the cover of the catalog. Prize consists of only those items specifically listed as part of the prize.

Peter Norman (swoofty) is offering swag in his latest train building contest: E is for electric. It’s being run in the LEGO Train MOCs group over on flickr. It would be great to see people use this contest to try out their first train designs, or first electric train designs. The contest runs until July 31st so there’s plenty of times to order bricks and get those entries made. If previous contests are any indication CAD should be acceptable too but source files must be provided upon request.

G-04 Caelifera Star Fighter

This ship is something I whipped together by request in a couple of evenings. I wanted to use lime, as I’m growing fond of that color, and this seemed like a good opportunity. I expect that the insect influence is rather apparent. When my wife saw it, she remarked that it looked like a grasshopper, which is the origin of the ship’s name.

This creation uses under 200 pieces (about 180) and would be a suitable entry for the Put Your Brick Where Your Mouth Is Contest, were I not a judge. There’s still time left before the deadline for you to submit an entry!

Herbie Rides Again!

Herbie is one of my favorite “movie” cars. Tyler did a perfect job…with the added bonus of PowerFunctions! Lovely, lovely build.

Lego Herbie PowerFunctions Lugnuts Challenge

This was built for Lugnuts 30th Challenge, which is inspiring some awesome cars, if you ask me….which of course you didn’t.
