LEGO DC 76265 Batwing Batman vs. The Joker [REVIEW]

If you’ve ever wondered how Bruce Wayne got to be a billionaire, the answer is simple: this is a man who understands branding. Why else have a plane in the exact shape of your own symbol? Branding. It’s simple. It’s perfect. It’s pure Wayne, baby! And it’s coming to toy store shelves soon in the form of LEGO DC 76265 Batwing Batman vs. The Joker. At first glance, this companion piece to the 76224 Batmobile set might seem redundant. Just another Bat-vehicle with the same two characters as minifigures? But the Batwing might be hiding a few surprises in store for you. And I’m not just talking about a giant pair of scissors. (In fact, this set explicitly does not include the giant scissors.) This 357-piece set will be available Aug 1st for US $37.99 | CAN $49.99 | UK £31.99.

The LEGO Group provided The Brothers Brick with an early copy of this set for review. Providing TBB with products for review guarantees neither coverage nor positive reviews.

Gotham’s dark night never looked so good

One of the best things about building with LEGO is sharing your creations with the worldwide community of fans. But in order to do so, you need to take pictures of your builds, and this is where the tricky part comes in. Not all creations photograph well—especially when you build something with black bricks. Getting a good shot is quite tricky, and you tend to lose the details of the build. However, thankfully that didn’t stop Brent Waller from building Gotham at Night with mostly black bricks, and losing some details of the build works to Brent’s advantage here, as it is meant to be a shot of a city skyline at night. I really like how Brent used a mix of yellow and orange to represent the lights burning in the skyscrapers. The different sizes for stars also are a really nice touch, drawing my eyes away from the Batwing covering the moon. This creation really reminds me of a 3D Pop-Up book I used to have as a kid.

LEGO returns to Burton’s Batman with the 1989 Batwing (76161), a 2,300-piece collector set [News]

Just last year, LEGO brought fans one of the most iconic iterations of the Batmobile, the swooping, elegant design from Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman starring Michael Keaton in the titular role. The 1989 Batmobile (76139) was a big success and received rave reviews, including our own. Now LEGO is hoping to strike twice by returning to the same source material for another of Batman’s crazy rides. Revealed today, the new 1989 Batwing (76161) has 2,363 pieces and will retail for US $199.99 | UK £179.99 | EU €199.99 when it’s available for LEGO VIP members October 21. It will be available for everyone starting November 1, and will include three minifigures of Batman, The Joker, and the Boombox Goon.

Welcome to Air Batman

You are now free to walk about the cockpit in this massive 1:20 scale model of the classic Batwing. Designed by Eivind Loekken, the Batwing looks sleek and fast thanks to extensive use of angled plates, tiles, and slopes of varying degrees; you won’t find a single stud in sight. Equally impressive is the custom Batman Technic figure seated in the cockpit.

LEGO reveals six new sets to celebrate 80 years of Batman, including classic vehicles, villains and Shazam! [News]

Batman is turning 80 on March 30, so LEGO is launching six new DC Super Heroes sets to celebrate. The line-up of sets includes our heroes Batman, Robin and Batwoman using iconic vehicles such as the Batmobile, Batwing and Batcycle to defeat classic villains like The Joker, Harley Quinn, and The Riddler. In addition to the expected Batman characters, Shazam also comes in one set (most certainly a nod to the upcoming DC film).

The sets range in price from $9.99 to $99.99 USD with general availability starting later this summer on August 1st. One set including Mr. Freeze will be available at Walmart one month early starting on June 1st.

Under moonlit night, the Batwing takes flight.

Growing up, I was a huge fan of Batman: The Animated Series. One of the highlights of the show was seeing Batman fight crime in his bat-themed vehicles, including the Batwing. Jerry Builds Bricks has reproduced the Batwing in LEGO form, and it looks as slick and fast as its animated counterpart. A mixture of curved and angled slopes help form the iconic fuselage, while a combination of curved slopes and hinges are used to pull off the iconic sweeping curves of the wings. Jerry’s Batwing also looks to be the perfect size for “swooshing” back and forth.
