Anime (アニメ in Japanese) is the style of animation or cartoons popularized in Japan, but appreciated worldwide today. Anime inspires lots of LEGO models from builders everywhere. Whether you love the artistry of Hayao Miyazaki or mecha from shows like Gundam and Evangelion, you’ll find many wonderful LEGO creations inspired by anime here on The Brothers Brick.

Hayao Miyazaki’s Akuyaku

Tyler Clites (legohaulic)does it again with this pile of curvy goodness. This model is a recreation of a tank designed by legendary film-maker and artist, Hayao Miyazaki. In the words of that immortal tanker, Donald Sutherland, “It’s a mother beautiful tank!”.

Annie Leonheart

I had the pleasure of briefly meeting Arkøv. at BrickCon last month and he’s as cool as the other side of the pillow and humble too. To say there is some “NPU” going on with his latest model is an understatement, in fact there are so many great details that it is difficult to pick a favorite. I think Arkøv’s description of this beauty cannot be improved upon, so I’ll leave you with the builder’s own words: “From Shingeki no Kyojin, the anime about big naked people eating little people with swords“.

Poke Ball, I choose you!

Ok, so it’s probably already obvious that I know nothing about Pokemon, but I do know that these Poke Balls by Moko don’t look like LEGO, despite the fact that they appear to be 100 percent purist. Moko’s been on a roll lately!

Kaname Madoka: Magical Girl

Kaname Madoka is a character from an anime television series about a girl being granted a wish in exchange for transforming into a magical girl tasked with fighting witches and despair. LEGO DOU Moko creates another amazing interpretation of an anime character out of LEGO. Most notable in this creation is his masterful posing of Kaname with her knee bent and magical bow drawn.

Friday Night Fights (Round 16)

Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another tap-out edition of Friday Night Fights! Tonight’s bout is a classic match-up of hipster vs manga-nerd with street-cred on the line. Let’s go to the tale of the tape:

Fighting out of the red corner, from The city of big shoulders…Dave “The KillerKaleta and his “Bat-Cow and Robin“.

And fighting out of the blue corner, from the school of hard knocks…”Murderin'” Mike Dung (MikeVd) and his “misaka“.

This Jolly Roger transforms

If I were checking out TBB right now, I’d probably think something along the lines of: ‘oh no, not another mecha!’ However, my excuse for blogging this model by daikoncat is that this is not just any old mecha; it’s the Skull Leader from the Macross saga.

VF-1S Valkyrie Skull Leader Battroid Mode

I used to watch the series as a child (although I knew it as Robotech). In fighter mode, the Valkyrie resembles the F-14 Tomcat and the Skull Leader’s markings are obviously based on the US Navy’s ‘Jolly Rogers’ squadron. As a big Tomcat fan and a big fan of the Jolly Rogers, I loved it and I love this model.

This is not the first Valkyrie we’ve blogged, but it does look super-poseable. Mecha don’t get much cooler.

C733 ‘Daimyo’ Landmate by Carter

Carter Baldwin ([Carter]) once again proves his prowess with mecha chock full of wonderful detailing. As ever I am endlessly impressed by what builders can do with olive green considering it is such a new colour. Carter also made perfect use of the Citizen Brick diamond plate custom printed tiles.

High School Girl Sculpture Part 3

Tim had previously featured Moko’s High School girl sculpture, but I had to post an update after running across the latest variant.

Statue/ High school girl. Part3

I amazed by the amount of textural detail achieved with the clothing by using relatively simple bricks alone.

Sterile Brilliance

Well a 400k piece castle and a drawing robot are tough acts to follow, but this was simply too nice not to share. Not only is Dane E’s (Mechanekton) Fuchikoma a really great example of the iconic A.I. machine, but the setting that he placed it in is absolutley stunning. By utilizing a clean sterile backdrop with a few perfectly placed ‘props’, Dane has created a scene that literally had me saying ‘WOW’.

With FebRovery coming to a close, we can roll (pun intended) right into Marchikoma…and Dane certainly has got my creative juices flowing.

Ushiabu from Nausicaä

I’m not one-hundred percent certain what this is, but given the builder’s (62778grenouille) history of creating other gorgeous models from Miyazaki’s films, I’m guessing this is the giant horsefly, or ushiabu, from Miyazaki’s 1984 masterpiece, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. In any case, it’s a fantastic and slightly terrifying creature, with some really interesting building techniques.

ねこバス Nekobasu (Catbus)

I watched My Neighbour Totoro for the first time just after Christmas. I wish I had seen it years ago, because it was absolutely wonderful. So seeing legorobo:waka’s model of the iconic Catbus was right up my alley! I love the somewhat simplified/blocky style…and that smile is just spot on!

But the coolest feature is definitely the movement:
