Deborah Higdon brings us this charming set of brick-built bookends portraying seasonal happiness. The little crab shack is just too cute — a perfect use of its parts, the water in particular. Look closely, and you’ll see that even the books are LEGO too.
A life-size, fully functional caravan trailer made entirely from LEGO bricks was presented this week at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, UK, during the 2015 Motorhome & Caravan Show.

The trailer set the surprisingly specific record for “largest caravan built with interlocking plastic bricks.” The model uses 215,158 LEGO bricks to faithfully recreate all the functions of a real RV, including running water and electricity. While sadly the heating elements and stove are non-functional lest the bricks melt, the refrigerator is perfectly capable of keeping its LEGO-built food safely preserved. Impressively, even the table folds down into a functional (albeit very firm) bed, just like real caravan trailers. The caravan will be on display Oct. 13-18 at the show, then again at the end of the month for UK’s Brick 2015 LEGO convention.
The model was created by UK’s Bright Bricks, LEGO Certified Professional Duncan Titmarsh and Ed Diment’s company. We’ve featured Ed’s monstrously large military ships many times here on TBB.
I never thought the Lego T-Rex head would be so perfect for a dino pincher until Takamichi Irie built one. Even though I know it isn’t functional, I’d still give it a squeeze if I had my hands on it.
Since we first featured his masterful sculptures of an ape and rat, newcomer Felix Jaensch has been busy churning out many more creations inspired by exotic animals. Brothers Brick prediction: This is one to watch! Amongst the latest batch of bestial beauties are these colorful birds…
Readers under the age of 40 are probably looking at this creation by Flickr member jtheels right now and thinking either (a) “Nice spaceship, dude!”, or (b) “Worst Chrome logo ever”. In fact, this is a life size recreation of Simon, an electronic game that first appeared in 1978 and became ridiculously popular at the time. By a complete coincidence, we have a Simon here at The Brothers Brick, who is also ridiculously popular, and has various buttons that we enjoy pushing on a daily basis!
Elliott Feldman spent several months to build a life-sized MIDA Multi-Tool Scout Rifle from the video game Destiny. The model is instantly recognizable to those who have played the game, but more interesting is the fact that the creation was scaled to one Lego piece. Find out what this part is in the description video on YouTube, which also showcases other features of the gun.
Here’s an excellent scale model of a classic kick scooter by Piotr Machalski. It’s not exactly one-to-one scale and probably isn’t safe to ride. But it does fold up, and Piotr came up with a neat approach to the wheels:
We’ve see plenty of LEGO mosaics before, but this one has a twist. James Pegrum used LEGO to capture the archaeological discovery of a Roman floor mosaic. This is a teaser for a Romano-Celtic themed collaboration by British building collective Bricks to the Past, due to be unveiled at STEAM next month. Can’t wait to see what other gems are unearthed when the full display is revealed!
Tim Schwalfenberg has just come back from the subjugated provinces and hung up his Roman Legionnaire’s battle gear, which looks stunning displayed in all its glory.
Tim’s been busy in his Iron Builder competition against Matt De Lanoy, and has been rolling out top-notch models left and right. Here are a few of my favorites, but be sure to check his flickr stream for the rest.
Ok, so this clown is actually about as non-creepy as clowns gets (which is to say it’s still a little creepy), but it’s a great design by Logey Bear. The ruffled collar made from robot arms is a great technique, and the rubber bands forming the mouth give this clown a sock-puppet vibe.
As one or two of our readers may have noticed, I have been absent for last few months – which I do apologize – I took a bit of a dark age to focus on real life priorities … like Video games! And the one that undeniably consumed me was Borderands (2 and TPS), with it’s co-op play, unique cell shading, randomly generated gun zaniness and an adorable robot, I was in love…
So when it came down to sitting down and playing with bricks again, I knew I didn’t want to leave Pandora behind, and much like the game, it’s more fun with friends.
With that in mind, I went to the best LEGO gunsmith around: Nick Jensen (Nick Brick) and challenged him to build me a randomly generated Borderland guns.
Enter the Bandit SMG:
The Bandit gun philosophy is simple: MORE BULLETS! MORE SHOOT BITS FOR BRAIN SPLATS! BANG BANG BANG BANG! …BANG!
While not nearly as elegant looking as some of the guns Nick has built, it’s awkward ridiculousness is fantastically built , with not one, but TWO working magazines clips – cause that’s how we roll. Don’t believe me, check out the video:
Of course, that’s only half the fun. The other iconic element of the game is everyone’s favorite/most hated robot Claptrap – CL4P TP, built by Simon Liu:

But as in the game, sometimes friends just randomly drop in unannounced, so I was delighted to see that Matt De Lanoy (Pepa Quin) also got in on the Borderlands action this year at Brickworld with a far more adorable version of Claptrap:
