Mike Eruzione led the 1980 U.S. hockey team to victory against the Soviet Union in what has since been dubbed the “Miracle on Ice.” Jonathan Gilbert (Shmails) has created a custom LEGO minifig to honor the captain of that historic team:
In addition to the decals, the minifig includes a number of custom accessories. Jonathan handcrafted the hockey stick, helmet, and skates.

I don’t know if Uspez Morbo was thinking of Krull when he named a fighter Glave (right), but it’s certainly a lot cooler than the film was. The fighter has some nice smooth lines, and narrow shapes combined with some bulky sections to give a nice balanced aesthetic.
He has also posted a fighter (below) that shares some shapes and construction in common with the Glave, but in the Ice Planet 2002 color scheme. Not only does it look cool, but it has an awesome ejection feature.

Over on Flickr, L.D.M. has posted a very unorthodox space ship. He calls it Steamspace, although I’m not quite sure why, as I don’t see any sort of boiler or steam apparatus. Regardless of how much steam equipment is in this ship, it’s still pretty cool.
The shape is just so different from just about anything I’ve seen before, I can’t help but appreciate it. The color choices work well too (that’s brown, people).
Stefan (Brainbikerider) has built an excellent little starfighter, that really takes shape in an interesting direction. Using 1×1 rounds, he’s made a nice curve shape, and mated it to a central core for a rather original aesthetic. While the technique the generate that curve has been used in castle towers for years, it’s great to see it adapted to use in space.
The use of stickers from the Power Miners line also adds a great sense of detail to the ship. Be sure to check out some of the other photos, to see how it looks from other perspectives.
As Dan mentioned a few days ago about his Tsing pair of starfighters, Johnny Frye (Dr. X) works hard to improve his LEGO creations.
Johnny’s Hr-18 Interceptor (right) was very cool, to be sure, but by creating an Hr-22 Attack Fighter variant in different colors (below), he made the design truly pop.
Johnny doesn’t build to get blogged (and nor should you), but it’s this kind of commitment to improvement that earns our respect.
Fedde (Karf Oolhu) has been having fun with LEGO monkeys lately.
I’ve always thought that LEGO monkeys were fairly difficult to pose in interesting ways, but Fedda proves otherwise — particularly that monkey scratching himself with a monkey wrench.
I just noticed that Fedda has more than 50 pictures in his Monkey Madness photoset. Lots of hilarious shenanigans goin’ on, so check it out.
Excluding a mention in a roundup back in NoVVember, it’s shocking that we haven’t blogged the LEGO creations of Fredo Houben (Fredoichi).
Fredo’s “Engo – Gunner Type” (above) is chock full of tasty greebles — even the underside of the sloped bricks he used as legs adds an interesting texture.
His older “Magojiro” (below) is no less awesome:

Not all good LEGO Castle landscaping has to be tall (for lack of a better word), as JD Luse demonstrates with a detailed landscape built on a baseplate:
The narrow trees add variety, while an Orient Expedition hat serves as a bird’s nest on the large tree.
I’m not up on the latest Star Wars Expanded Universe characters, but I think I can recognize excellent custom minifigures when I see them.
Khain and his Padawan by Tekka Croe incorporate custom faces, torsos, and cloth items, as well as a pair of interesting lightsaber handles. Also note the modified minifig legs on the shorter figure.
Black Foster (CSF_Blake) has just completed his second SHIP, dubbed Paladin:
Blake writes on Classic-Space Forums that Paladin is “designed to disable carriers with it’s two big cannons mounted on top. Then, thanks to its assortment of big engines, it can make a quick getaway before fighters can be sent in pursuit.”
Four feet long, Paladin even has a full interior.

Rob (Dasnewten) has built a gorgeous gunship inspired by ships in Homeworld:
With brick-built numbers, tank treads on the cannon, and truly complex SNOT on the cockpit, Rob’s gunship is an amazing LEGO creation. The fact that it’s inspired by Homeworld is just a minor bonus.
