You’d probably expect a lot of the posts on a LEGO website like The Brothers Brick to be about LEGO, and you’d be right. If you’re browsing this page, you might want to consider narrowing what you’re looking for by checking out categories like “Space” and “Castle.” We’re sure there’s something here that’ll fascinate and amaze you.

Maximum Overdrive

I have a confession to make, constant reader, I’m a huge fan of Stephen King; the booze years, the coke years and even the post-accident years (for the most part). One of my guilty pleasures from the coked-out 1980’s was the cinematic gem Maximum Overdrive, directed by the author himself and starring the incomparable Emilio Estevez. The plot is brilliant in it’s simplicity: a handful of strangers find themselves trapped together in a truck stop diner after semi-trailers and other large vehicles are suddenly brought to independent life by an unknown force and proceed to gruesomely kill every human in sight. As anyone who has ever had the great fortune of seeing the King-directed horror flick will tell you, the real star of the show is the Happy Toyz Co. White-Western Star 4800 truck which has the face of the Green Goblin from Spider-Man mounted on its grill. It is without a doubt one of the coolest semi’s of all time and now it is immortalized in LEGO by -derjoe-, who did a wonderful job on both the Goblin-grill and the letters.

すげえ!かっこいい!

The title of this post was stolen from a comment by FateHeart on this fascinating model and photo by 62778grenouille, and I couldn’t agree more. The Japanese text roughly translates, to “dude! cool!” which is exactly the way I feel about this model: enthusiastic but also sort of dumbfounded into an uncommunicative state…which isn’t too useful when blogging.

鳥

Some of the translation programs I checked had the text reading “dude! What’s up!”, which also works within the context of this post and my feeling about this model. Welcome to the weekend (週末へようこそ。).

Take the train to Costa del Sol, you’ll be glad you did.

Adrian Marciniak CyberPacket makes his first appearance on the brothership with this outstanding train layout that just about everything a viewer could ask for, from the curving mountain to the steep hill to the chicken-joint down on the dock. When I look at the photos my eye is constantly drawn towards the leaning houses; they are such a refreshing break from the boilerplate Cafe-Corner style buildings that usually inhabit train-centric dioramas. I think it is a safe bet to expect great things from Mr. Marciniak down the road. If you’re a fan of little vignettes that make a diorama of this scale really work, be sure and check out the full set on Flickr that features some fine photography.

Sydney Opera House in lights

LEGO Certified Professional Ryan McNaught (TheBrickMan) is probably best known for his very cool, colossal models. This time we’re featuring him for something a bit smaller. His recent work has seen him reproduce the cranes and light show on the 10234 Sydney Opera House presented in direct comparison with the real thing. I think (perhaps I’m wrong) that the opera house itself is the recent kit, but the addition of extra elements really brings it to life.

Killer Croc spotted in downtown!

Just a few days ago, I highlighted the freaky Joker mech blasting through Gotham, and I noted that more dioramas by these collaborators were in the works. Here’s the next, by 6kyubi6. It’s a crazy scene of downtown mayhem as the sewers unleash a truly gigantic mutant Croc. A plethora of superheroes and even a few other villains dot the landscape as the city sustains its fair share of collateral damage. Both scenes will be on display at Briqu’Expo 2013 in Diemoz, France, next month.

Three eras of a DeLorean time machine

Adam Grabowski (misterzumbi) made a DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future out of LEGO. It’s actually silver. It’s six wide. And it looks nice in all its clothes.

Goblin Afloat!

This series of creatures that Jade Wisniewski (Taz-Maniac) has going on are quite incredible. This little one-eyed bugger is especially adorable. He has a devil-may-care, jaunty look about him and I love it.

She can dig more in a day than 100 men in a week!

Who is she? Mary Anne of Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel fame! Thousands, if not millions, of kids grew up reading about Mike Mulligan and Mary Anne. I remember the dog-eared copy that I read and my kids have a copy now. Evan Bordessa (Lego Junkie) is the wizard who has whisked us away down memory lane and I thank him for the trip!

Fans of LEGO wanted.

TBB regular Tim Zarki (spook) is embarking on a design project this semester which pertains to how we interact with our LEGO collections and how to make that interaction better. He doesn’t want to give away too much information right now, but in these preliminary stages he has created a quick survey. It only took me a few minutes to complete, so if you have a spare moment and would like to help out a fellow LEGO maniac in his studies, please complete the survey via the link below.

*UPDATE – Tim has now received the 1000 survey responses that he required so has closed the survery link. Thank you to everyone that helped him out, I know he appreciated it!

Now why didn’t I think of doing projects based on LEGO when I was in school?!?

Meet Mr. Mietek

This fascinating character built by Rafal P. is sure to be an attention grabber with all the interesting parts used from head to toe. Never have I thought such a disarray of parts can be combined to create such a convincing character.

Trolls on the march!

This gigantic siege tower, by burlogh (burlogh) is awesome. My character in the Lands of Classic Castle roleplay is troll, so I have to cheer for these guys! I love the how it is over-sized to fit the giant trolls and the scrap-wood look is great. The landscaping is spot-on and the dinos as motive power are frosting on the cake. That Cave Troll looks happy that he isn’t pulling anything this time!
