Shannon Ocean speaks on LEGO gun control

Now that I’ve caught your attention with the title, you can take some time to look at Shannon Sproule’s (Ocean) latest real-life size rayguns. Because they’re beautiful. I love it when Shannon takes his Battle for the Moon asthetic to human scale.

Monolithic Builds: Giant Sushi and a Robot Uprising

This latest Iron Builder contest has provided an incredible slew of fascinating models from the uuber talented contestants. Sean and Steph Mayo pull out all the stops with this monstrous sushi roll fit for a giant.

And Bart De Dobbelaer fires back with this super cool Monolith. I don’t even pretend to know what’s going on here, but I’m imagining some sort of robot sentience emergence, ala 2001.

Tusk! (Real savage like)

Once again it has been a pleasure spinning some LEGO tunes for your weekend viewing pleasure. I’m going to wrap things up with this fine M1A3 SEP V.3 w/ TUSK V.2 Abrams MBT by armor-baron Andrew Somers. I meant to blog Andrew’s oustanding Dismount! last week, but some shiny object must have distracted me.

50 years of Doctor Who, 1 very tall LEGO staircase to the clouds

Growing up in Asia, the classic Doctor Who was never available to me, so I only got into the show around 2005 here in the States, with the Ninth Doctor. Nevertheless, I’m excited about the 50th anniversary of the show this year. But not as excited as Thorsten Bonsch (Xenomurphy), who promises 11 LEGO models over the next several months, each inspired by the incarnations of the Doctor since 1963.

Thorsten starts off with the most recent Doctor, and in fact the most recent Doctor Who episode — the Christmas special titled simply “The Snowmen.”

I think Iain put it best: “Longest. Post. Ever.

The Edge of Dusk and the Brink of War

TFOL Mitchell Pollard [MIXBRIX] brings his vision of the apocalypse to life with this immersive scene of turmoil. Typically scenes in this genre leave me cold and amount to little more than minifigs standing around with brickarmz prototypes, but this diorama is a cut above. Enjoy the many textures of the ruin.

Today’s dragonfly brought to you by 拒绝融化の冰. Be good kids, or this Anisoptera may fly up to you when you’re sleeping and sew your mouth shut.

Above and Beyond

1995’s Space: Above and Beyond was an underrated Sci-Fi show with some great spacecraft designs that died a premature death. Fortunately for fans of the show, Balabas Shipyards has created what he calls “a 90% copy of the ISSCV”, a transport ship used by 58th “Wildcards”. If you like the model, be sure and check out this shot which displays the detachable cargo module.

Soren

Timothy Pendarvis ZephyrChaos has an interesting new mecha he calls “Soren”. Although the builder does not say as much, I suspect it is honor of reclusive Girondist Soren Roberts. It does have a striking resemblance to Roberts after one of his infamous paint-thinner binges. Perhaps I’m wrong though, Timothy could be referring to nineteenth century Danish philosopher Soren Kirkegaard or perhaps Søren Rasted – former member of Scandinavian band AQUA. Only ZerphyrChaos knows for sure, and he ain’t talkin’.

Ignore me, enjoy Soren.

“Fat man, you shoot a great game of pool.”

Alex Eylar (Profound Whatever) returns from a brief hiatus with this slick pool table. Good to have you back Alex, those cushions are top-notch. It’s Saturday night here in the States, rack em’ up!

“Dark things once again stir to the east.”

Sounds like bad news for the empire, but fortunately two mighty builders Glory_Forever and brick-a-brack stand against the darkness with their colaborative build “Andormar Pantheon”. Fine details abound, including a a footbridge set at an angle that really helps the build jump the grid. Nice work brothers McCLung, with your continued vigilance the “ancient enemy” doesn’t stand a chance.

Graffity Coq

Moscovite Silvavasil_LEGO combines street art and LEGO with his latest effort entitled “Graffity Coq”. With this colorful burn he joins the ranks of urban-inspired builders like LEGOSTYLES and Cole Blaq and Orion Pax.
