Holy moly – Nick’s Vic Viper has it all!

I actually avoided featuring Nick Trotta’s (tardisblue) model over the weekend and hoped one of my cohorts would do it first…I simply didn’t know how to properly express how cool this build is! But they didn’t so I guess I can nolonger avoid it.

So instead of trying to put it into words, I will simply make note of some of the descriptive words that were posted on the photo:

Beautiful, Spectacular, Perfection, Gorgeous, Mind-blowing, Fan-freakin’-tastic, Wonderful, & Zowie!

And perhaps, Fredoichi summed it up best:
“Best of show, period!”

Just plain good lookin’

When it comes to catching someone’s eye with a LEGO model, the initial WOW-factor of the presentation obvioulsy has a lot to do with it. With Victor Vercesi’s (Bricksbeard) M299 Utility Vehicle, the first impression is most certainly WOW! The bright colours and contrasting background makes this model jump right out at you.

M299 Utility Vehicle

Based on the M299 Utility Vehicle from the anime series Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Victor took some creative liberty with the design to make it his own. At first glance it seems quite straight-forward, but you really can see lots of great techniques and efficient use of pieces and detailing.

It is also cool to see some models based on the unsung heroes of anime series…so often it is the fancey spacecraft and mechas that get all the limelight ;)

The Temple of Dawn by Glory_Forever

Noah McClung (Glory_Forever) has created an absolutely stunning scene for the Colossal Castle Contest. The combination of natural landscaping and beautiful architecture creates a very tranquil scene!

And that roof just makes me smile :)

Inside the box...

There are a lot of zany Vic Viper designs out there, but it is really nice to see a good ol’ classic design every now and then. Uspez Morbo has produced one such spacecraft with his BP-8272 Stealth. It is a perfect example of how you can stick close to a design while still giving it a personal twist. The colouring, sleek lines, and overall girth make this one beautiful looking starfighter…the little hits of red really make it pop for me!

Uspez is no stranger to large scale starfighters, as this wonderful trio shot showcases!

One Cute Castle

With a small assortment of parts Fedde (Karf Oohlu) has created a microscale castle that is both adorable and also quite detailed for it’s size. You gotta love efficient parts usage like this!

MOVING OUT by Pierre E Fieschi

I had posted Pierre’s wonderful ship last week, but this is simply too beautiful of a photo to not do this update. The only thing edited in this shot is the background and engine glow. The glow of the ships lights is achieved by using electroluminescent wire on the interior of the vessel.

Hola, I’m N.O.R.A!

Jack McKeen (madLEGOman) has built quite a spectacular mecha for the FBTB Mecha Madness Contest. This gargantuan machine of Victor Freeze’s would come in very handy while battling Batman…I also think it would work well for freezing mammoths! And what icy mecha would be complete without the ability to hurl pissed off polar bears??

There are a lot of superb entries to this contest, so please be sure to head over to contest threads to vote:

Vic Viper by .Jake

This early in the game, there has been no shortage of fabulous Vic Vipers posted for this year’s NnoVVember, but seeing Jake’s this morning had me saying “WOW”!

The top view is particularly impressive…it has such a brilliant balance of fragility and deadliness to it’s look. (perhaps a bit more on the fragility side).

Be sure to check out the full set for all the details.

After my failure of participation to Ma.Ktoberfest, I wasn’t really feeling NnoVVember…but seeing everyone’s awesome submissions these first few days has totally put me in the mood!! :D

Jar Jar better watch his back!

It would appear that Brian Kescenovitz (mondayn00dle) has similar feelings on Battle Droids and Jar Jar Binks that I do. Good to see that they will get their just deserts!

Roger roger, mother f*#@&%...

It also must be noted that the alien is constructed with some unique top notch techniques!

Now that is a whole lotta Ma.K!

Ok, last post I promise…

Pascal just posted the final poster of all the Ma.Ktoberfest entries. Huge thanks to him for the amount of effort doing all that editting!

So what is my opinion on this past month? One word, “WOW!”

When I first planned on organizing the build challenge, I figured there would be a decent amount of participation, but the sheer number of builds and the quality thereof absolutely exceeded all expectations. It really was neat to sit back and watch so many builders get in on the fun. So gigantic thank you to all that participated, it was an absolute blast!

Ma.Ktoberfest Chancellor Pascal

Well Ma.Ktoberfest wraps up today, what a month it has been. Stay tuned for my final announcement, but in the meantime I want to make mention of one builder in particular who most certainly stepped up to the plate. Keep in mind he has done all of this while at the same time editing everyone else’s contributions for the final poster…

Not since Nnenn’s epic Novvember performance, have I seen a contribution to a monthly build challenge on par with what Pascal (paukaru76) did this Ma.Ktoberfest. Each day of the month he posted a different model, and his ability to capture the aesthetic with his unique minimalist style is just beyond awesome. The creativity just makes me so happy :)

My MaKtoberfest 2012

So a HUGE thanks to you buddy! You kept producing brilliant stuff the entire month, and kept us all entertained!

Please be sure to click through his photostream if you haven’t already, there is some absolutely glorious stuff in there. Here are a few of my favourites:

AFOLs <3 Pierre E Fieschi

I think the first comment on Pierre E Fieschi’s latest photo sums up how most of us feel about him. I can honestly say that I am absolutely blown away by every build that he posts. His ability to create incredibly complex, yet truly fun, spacey creations is second to none.

There are a lot of builders out there I would love to meet; Pierre is most certainly one of them. Maybe one day I will get the chance to sit down with him, eat some Haribo candies, and just talk LEGO…but in the mean time I will be happy in just basking in the glory that is the ‘TESSERACT’ SUPER CAPITAL SHIPYARD.

'TESSERACT' SUPER CAPITAL

I also think it is worth noting that Pierre has been featured and/or mentioned in, going on 18 posts now, here on The Brothers Brick. He should be an honourary Brother at this point I am thinkin’…or at least win a t-shirt or something :D
