About Simon

Simon could write a really good bio, but he's too busy building.

WALL-E, WALL-E and another WALL-E

It’s not the first time we’ve blogged a WALL-E, and it probably won’t be our last either. After a slight diversion with BURN-E in Nov, the movie’s adorable main character is back this week as three different builders given us their take on this little fella:

First up, is the largest from David Hensel (Legonardo Davidy):
Wall-E

Evan (Lego Junkie) chimes in with his mini version:
Wall-E

And finally the one that started this week’s WALL-E bandwagon, Tyler (Legohaulic) gives us his rendition:
Space Dance

And a bonus link – Evan also has a fun Microbe Obliterator; M-O to clean up after his WALL-E.

Remote Controlled Plymouth Fury

Remote Control cars are just plain fun, and Fred Ottens has built this cute little RC hotrod that I want to drive a round and make VRRRRRROOMMMM noises:

He’s done a great job shaping the car despite the RC wheelbase being too short compared to its width. Watch him zip around his house with this remote controlled ball of fury.

Eco-house of the future

Architecture isn’t usually a theme I build in, but I do appreciate when it’s done well. TBB newcomer Adam Hollings (Night Hawk_) has built a really nifty Eco friendly house:

Eco-Friendly Home of the Future

It’s an example of a very nice and clean build, and looks almost too simple… until you take a closer look. There is some really nice detailed styling he accomplished by building studs out creating some nice vertical lines. But the really cool part are the windows. Using levers to hold glass is nothing new, but using technic axles to frame the windows? Now that’s a new trick I have to remember.

Three Bears family portrait.

Barney Main (SlyOwl) takes a page from the classic fairy tales: Goldilocks and the Three Bears with this fantastic family portrait. There’s lots of great details in this build and some clever techniques but sometimes the simplest parts are the best. Barney changes the angles on the hotdog eyebrows just slightly enough to give each bear their own unique expression.

Friday Night Fights (Round 31)

Happy New Year Fight Fans! It’s 2014 and we have a long season ahead of us. For tonight’s fight we bring you the duel of the dragons. Let’s go to the tale of the tape:

In the red corner, from the literary scene to the big screen we have Jonas (Legopard) and his Smaug the Stupendous:
Fire and Water

In the opposite blue corner, from the big screen down to the tv screen we have Stormbringer and his Skrill Showdown:
Skrill Showdown

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding the outcome of this pugilistic endeavor by way of comment. On the last edition of Friday Night Fights, the battle of knights vs demons ended with a score of of 3-1 for Moko’s Knight Gundam. Tune in next week for another action packed edition of Friday Night Fights!

Micro Wizard of Oz

It’s been awhile since we last saw iridescent nohow, but he’s back with a whole slew of micro builds that will make you think twice about a lot of pieces.

I was going to point out all the extremely clever piece uses here, like the drum sticks, the little flesh hands and each of the mini-micro figs … but at eight studs long it’s pretty easy to see all the nice piece usages.
No Place Like Home
(Though I will point out the fantastic Red Ruby Slippers on Dorthy).

And here’s a bonus one for all you Scooby-Doo fans:
Scooby-Doo: Haunted House

Don’t forget to check out more of his recent micro builds on his photostream.

Indiana Gingerbread Man

This build by Ian Spacek made me laugh out loud, so it’s worth posting here:

Caption this Photo! #10

Nothing like a funny idea, built well with some great piece usage all around. Though there’s a few more gems that Ian and Max have been creating for awhile now, and they’re inviting viewers to write a caption for each of their photos, so go check it out!

Simon says.

Hi everyone! I’m Simon and I’m ecstatic to join The Brothers Brick. When I started this whole LEGO hobby thing it was a dream just to get mentioned on TBB, and it was an unfathomable dream to someday contribute to the Blog that opened my eyes to the possibilities of LEGO.

I hail from the great white north that is Canada (eh), and I really do love poutine (just ask Brickcon people). But my true love is building and playing with LEGO – with the obligatory sound effects of course. My second love would probably be going to conventions – so if you ever see me at one, please introduce yourself!

I grew up reading science fiction books and watching sci-fi shows/movies so my builds are very skewed towards that genre, though I do dabble in other themes as well. Arguably my favorite book was Ender’s Game which was recently turned into a big budget movie.
So now you know all about me, now it’s time for me to get to work and know more about all of you and your builds!

I will leave you with these parting words to live by:
