About Caylin

A life-long LEGO fan, Caylin returned to the hobby as an adult in 2003, after her mother bought her a basic creator tub as a joke. Her mother regrets this. She regularly attends BrickCon in Seattle, Washington, where she goes by the title of Prize Goddess. You can check out her flickr account here.

Checkmate.

There are so many things I want to say about this, but mostly, I’m just in awe. This four-section creation by Rook just has so much gorgeous detail.

I’ll start with the obvious: the four parts interlock to create either a tower or fortress, and changes the dynamics for each mode. Then there’s the bone-tree, the “giant” chess set, and the detailing on the towers.

I can’t pick a favorite detail on this. Just take a look and see for yourself!

Thanks for the heads up, Bley Junkie!

How to paint an artist.

Ah, the life of an artist. Glamorous, with paintings selling for millions upon millions, right? Eh, probably not. Unless you’re Picasso, this poor minifig probably won’t see his works reach seven digits in his lifetime. But that’s glamorous, right?

All he wants to do is pay for his fantastic flat, that he just cleaned. But he missed the red pigment. That’s going to stain.

I love the detail in this. The coat rack, especially, and the half-finished sculpture. Bravo, Walter Boy.

But of course I like nightmares personified!

Actually, I’m going to be honest. Hellraiser is, in fact, one of the many films I haven’t seen. I’m just not big into horror. What I can appreciate, though, is a spot-on custom creation that even I can recognize. This is totally one of those.

Fantastic job, capnbootle!

Curiouser and curiouser.

Tyler (Legohaulic) takes us on a journey of the strange and weird, down the rabbit hole and (hopefully!) back again.

I think the perspective and parts use is fantastic (that glass table is just lovely!), and everything together REALLY helps create the atmosphere.

More than just a minifigure.

I think it really goes without saying that Morgan190‘s custom minifigures are simply brilliant. It’s nigh impossible to pick a favorite.

He’s posted some fantastic ones in the month of March, so rather then suffer the consequences of choosing, I’ll just gather them here.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

This time last year we were collectively preparing to worship LEGO Hawking, courtesy of Iain Heath. Now, the venerable Mr. Hawking is nothing but a prisoner of those damn dirty apes. I don’t trust Iain with my heroes of character anymore.

What’s next, Iain? Will you turn Quorra into a Justin Bieber fan? Will you, yourself, abandon miniland creations for minifig scale?

I just can’t take it anymore.

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Miniland figures

Tommy Williamson, I salute you. These Miniland figures from Pirates of the Caribbean include an amazing level of detail. Jack Sparrow is nice, but Captain Barbossa is awesome.

One does seem to be missing.

Those three blind mice. See how they run? According to Barney Main (SlyOwl), one wasn’t quite quick enough. There is a ton of great stuff hidden in plain sight in this photo. The whole presentation of it is just fabulous.

A small glimpse at Greek architecture.

Chris Malloy posted this brilliant Greek temple. I really have very little to say other than it’s gorgeous and encompasses so much of the feel of the time period and architecture in such a small build.

Presidio Cadiz by Detroitika

New builder Detroitika has certainly made an impact with his first posted creation, Presidio Cadiz. This is, of course, an entry to Forbidden Cove‘s Jolly Roger Contest–and you’ve got just until the Ides of March to get your entry in.

I really like the green design against the white. The whole build just works for me…I like the roofline with the green, and I like the attention to detail in side the entry arches. I like the overall feel of the build.

Spitfire Mk IX

This plane is just gorgeous. Ed Diment (Lego Monster) states that it’s a 1 in 20th scale, and he plans to add more. I can’t wait.
